Love how far your production values have come on in 3 years since you posted this! From a dude that enjoys what he’s doing in his bedroom (sounds dodgy, that…!😉) to what is to all intents and purposes a TV program!. Great job!👏👏
I used magnets like that in my original pepakura Iron Man helmet 7 years ago, but i had to glue them in, line them up, etc. This is simply awesome how you use the rafts, heat them to better form the shape, weld them into the helmet, etc. Totally amazed (yet again) by your tutorial! Well done!!!!
This is an older video, but I'm making my first helmet, and this was incredibly helpful! Applying this same technique to the back panel of a batman helmet with a tiny neck hole.
I've been using the neodymium magnets and I rough them up on one side with some sandpaper and use E6000 to glue them in and have good luck with that. of course I don't do 3D print but use EVA foam, so there's that.
Nice tutorial and good use of those purse magnets. Don't forget to wear a respirator when using that soldering iron to heat up and melt that plastic. You don't want to be breathing that.
As always, a fantastic video! Just finished printing the mk 85 and I'm following your tutorials on motorizing and adding LED eyes. Can you give some insight into specifically how you place the magnets on the jaw to attach to the head piece? I'm finding it tough to get it right. Tried using the 8mm holes that print with the helmet but that didn't align properly. Thanks again!
Would it be practical to have this kind of helmet on a full suit? It would be pretty difficult to get enough grip on the faceplate to pull it off when you’re wearing the gauntlets I imagine, unless there’s another trick to it like even stronger magnets in the fingertips or something.
Another great tutorial, congratulations Frank, too bad I don't understand your language, what kind of material do you use to place the magnets and add them to the helmet by gluing them and shaping it with the heat?
Don’t know if you still read these comments but what setting do I need to put my printer on to print rafts like you have made? I have a helmet that did not come with magnet spots and need to make some myself. Bambu P1S and bambu studios.
I'm making a helmet that wasn't 3D printed. Do you have any ideas on doing the LED wireless eye method to a helmet that uses a hinge/magnet combination?
Building my first iron man helmet (Mk5). Not really a good spot to put magnets for the jaw like the Mk85. Do you recommend soldering it solid then cutting a different area to for better magnet placement? Currently the connection area is a smooth section
Hi Frank, great video as always. Did you ever do a video on how to connect the pieces of a suite when wearing it? I've seen you using clips in other videos and was curious about the best process to hold it all together whilst walking around in it?
@@FranklyBuilt I thought you did. Thanks for replying man. Hope all your latest stuff is going well and that you're doing good too. I'll go check out those vids shortly. I'm trying to build a mk85 iron man suit. So far I've done the top half minus the arms 😀
I’m sure there’s a way you could, with massive tweaking to the design. Currently, the servos connect the faceplate to the head in order to open it, so unless you did something where you put on the electronics and the magnets, undid the servos and then pulled it off, it probably wouldn’t work.
Which version is the unpainted helmet? I really like that one, might do that one for an upcoming local con instead of my MK17 heartbreaker helmet I've been working on.
great tutorial, can i just ask about the black and white helmet as it seems to be sliced different from the other one, is the stl available somewhere or is it one you adapted yourself, thank you
Whats the best way to print the face plate? I find the automatic rotation means the triangle points are the first thing to print, which keep getting knocked loose after they reach about 1inch high due to the surface are on the bed being too small
i have a few questions so i only am going to print the helmet do you have a link to the helmet so i can print it do you also have a link for the raft things you were talking about also where did you get them magnets
Research research research my man. You just popped of a dozen questions that could’ve been answered via google or reading lol make sure you look around first for answers. Other may not be so forgiving haha
@@FranklyBuilt well thats kinda why i asked you because google doesn't really do it for me and you know what your doing like my brain is wired to were i need things more specific
Got it. I was just wondering if 2 magnets (one each side) are enough for supporting the jaw? Unlike the faceplate(which has a natural support on the jaw), i believe the jaw should kind of weight more..or this is not an issue?
also if you were to give me the link for that helmet how big would you say i have to print it also is there more pieces that you need so it can just sit on my head securely also for the rafts can i have a link to the thinner one that you used
@@FranklyBuilt thanks also i remember in one of your vids there was like a back Piece to the helmet so it stays oon more securly also would you recomend printing all the pieces separtly
And every print I find including the one in the bio doesn’t allow me to snap the chin piece in. The piece with the chin that’s supposed to snap in is connected to the helmet
Hey I'm a beginner to 3d printing and you've inspired me so much, but could someone tell me how to print a square piece of raft? I've searched everywhere....
Just noticed the gauntlet pen holder, that's pretty cool.

Ha! You beat me to it..."YOU'RE" awesome! ;-) Thanks Frank!! Another fantastic tutorial!

Frank, what would
Be the best way to install earth magnets into a helmet with premade magnet holes ?
Nice tutorial and good use of those purse magnets. Don't forget to wear a respirator when using that soldering iron to heat up and melt that plastic. You don't want to be breathing that.
Excellent video. I don't have much wiggle room to work with so I'll be using the second idea with the neodymium magnets.
EXCELLENT video...wish I seen it before I tried my first helmet 😂 will definitely utilize this for rest of my armor build
That is whole lot easier than I thought 😅 ...great vid
Thanks man for the great vid, this is really helpful in my armor build
Thank you so much for the tutorial. Unrelated note, I love the palm armor as a supply holder. xD
Kuro Kurayami thanks! Haha it was a failed print
thank you for your video has been of great help to me, you are a phenomenon!
this is awesome, gonna use this technique for my new dr doom mask!
Thanks so much for this tutorial! Going to get a batch of these purse magnets. Will you be doing a faceplate hinge tutorial as well?
Eventually yeah
Great video!! The helmet is so sick!

Extra wasted raft material from printing
RAFT. It is a type of 3d print support option you can choose in your slicer.
Thank you 😄this tutorial was really useful ✨
great instructional video. Do you have a link for the magnets?
These videos are super helpful

I am new to doing helmets. How would you do magnets on the jaw plate? Is it the same method or is it different
That’s so cool.
Working on a starboost helmet and maybe suit. Anyway, this will really help
do you think this technique applie to body armor connecting the front and back or would that not support movement?
if you don't have a soldering iron, could you also use hot/super glue to make the connections?
Love your videos!
How thick are your prints? I am trying to avoid the flimsy plastic look, and your thickness seems perfect.
Whatever stock Cura settings set it too haha
Brilliant

i say just stick the magnets on the arms that the servos move.
What do you use for the inside liner for comfort? Having a hard time explaining to amazon what I need lol
may i ask what size magnets you used for the jaw? i’m having trouble finding them @franklybuilt

are there alternative magnets? In my country they're weirdly hard to get

Yeah that’s a larger old helmet from thingiverse
can this be bought of a certain website?

Whats the best way to print the face plate? I find the automatic rotation means the triangle points are the first thing to print, which keep getting knocked loose after they reach about 1inch high due to the surface are on the bed being too small
I have a video called “how to arrange 3D prints” and it’s about faceplates
super late, but by any chance can this also be used with a motorized version of the helmet? or would the MG90's be too weak to detach the magnets?
How did you get your face plate so flush mine has so many gaps any ideas
Hello I was just wondering how do you magnotise a jaw piece please do u add anything to put the magnets into thank you
Question: Is 10-15% infill good to use soldering iron?
To my knowledge in sep3rate videos he says he uses 5% infill for the helmet so id say yes

Possibly

How do you vent the dank, burnt filament smell out of the office? 😂
he breathed it all up, so no lingering odor.

hi thats so cool
What are those things called, that you stick the magnets on
where do we buy raft ? what's the real name for this kind of material ?
i read below that is from residu of 3d printing...

No because it’s literally the same process.

also if you were to give me the link for that helmet how big would you say i have to print it also is there more pieces that you need so it can just sit on my head securely also for the rafts can i have a link to the thinner one that you used

Depends on the helmet

Magnets
