He keeps sounding surprised that the iPhone XS is faster. It’s four years older. An extra half a second or less to open a non-gaming app is actually quite reasonable considering the fact the XS is a $1000 (USD) phone and most people watching this probably already own an iPhone 6. I am very surprised about how well it performed and am now seriously considering holding onto it for another year (before I watched this video I was on the fence about upgrading to the XR).

As always I throughly enjoy your speed tests. To be honest though as an old guy that started out carrying a beeper for business reasons long ago the speed difference is see here means little to me. I appreciate that I'm not in Apple's target democratic but ALL smartphone makers have failed to bring practical features older practical people would see as worthy of an upgrade. Dropping the fingerprint scanner killed it for me with Apple.

As someone who used the iPhone 6 before upgrading, I can tell you that it was crawling on IOS 12 (or was it 11?). We are talking about a few seconds just to launch Notes or the messaging app.

I'm surprised that the Xs is not faster. I would expect the difference to be alot bigger. The difference in opening apps are a couple of seconds max, in favor of the Xs. And when you're inside the app, it's much the same in day to day use. Conclusion is that either the Xs is surprisingly slow, or the iPhone 6 is holding up very well. And I'm obviously not paying 1099 $ to have my apps load 1-2 secs faster.
The iPhone 6 is holding up really good, I got my iPhone X yesterday and before that, I had an iPhone 6 and I loved it. It's a very good phone that still works really well.

The 6 really didn't have a good chip. It was decent at its time. The real jump was from the a8 to the a9 in the 6s.

Some Xs and Xs Max users are reporting WiFi and LTE signal-strength issues, and some other users of these iPhone models are seeing an overly strong Blue-shift in their device's display (similar to the debacle with the Google Pixel 2XL screen last year).
The OLED Pixel panels were made by LG, who is also supplying Apple with some of the Xs/Xs Max displays. So (unfortunately), it makes sense.
Feel free to Google or Reddit these two issues if you don't believe me...

@@saadmasroor1933 The majority of Xs and Xs Max screens are indeed Samsung OLEDs. But some are LG panels.
The problem is, it's a crapshoot when buying one because you have no way of knowing which display your device has until you open the box and test your new phone out.
Bad move by Apple IMO, given the backlash against the Pixel 2XL screens. As is too often the case with Apple, they're prioritizing their profit margins over their customers' best interests.
