Monty Hall was a legend at Let’s Make A Deal.
You got that right.
I love these older episodes. I was a kid in the 70's and our family had the yellow appliances. Apparently, yellow was really in style back then.
And light green. I had a Gibson (auto defrost) light green colour fridge and stove from 1969, lasted over 40 years! We used it later as a basement refrigerator. When it started leaking water inside of it and stopped cooling I found out from a repair person all it needed was a freon charge! Let's find a modern China one that will last this long!
We called it "Harvest Gold," Dark Side.
Allison M… I also grew up in the ‘70s. I think there were only three colors of kitchen appliances. Red, yellow, (gold), and green. Maybe even olive green. We had the matching olive green appliances. Those were cool looking. A very vivid memory that I wouldn’t trade for anything. 😊😊
Me too! Living in Lagrange and Hinsdale IL right out side of Chicago. I had a blue Schwinn Typhoon and a orange Skateboard and those were great.
@@m4203740 yrs, wow! You're lucky if you get 40 months out of todays refrigeratiors.
I know that the price of things changes with time and inflation, but it’s stil so weird to see what food cost back then.
I miss the old school Let's Make a Deal - it felt like they wanted people to win back then.
Yess
One of the most famous episodes in the show's history.
+Tubewings The Snap Crackle episode.
Used to be, the new ones suck
I used to love this show when I was a kid.
1000 gallons of gas for $350. That's $0.35 per gallon. Those were the days.
So wild.
@@mclovinlife4018 And the cars back then were so butt ugly !!! 🤮
Prices of food they listed about 10x cheaper too.
No fair, you used the Windows calculator
I love these old game shows...
Agreed. It's so heartwarming to see these people win. The joy on their faces doesn't lie.
This was back when the ABC Primetime version had Tower of Power horns along with Ivan's orchestra section. When it was moved to syndication later on, the Tower of Power horns were pink slipped but Ivan's band continued on.....
Really?
Much larger band than on the daytime show, featuring a horn section of local 47 hotshots playing charts concocted by legendary band arranger Sammy Nestico - who as of March 2016 is still with us!
At 0:14. :D
That ham price blew my mind
That Pontiac wagon is sweet
I Agree with Him, That's a Beautiful Pontiac.
RIP Monty.
Yeah. Good trick havin a '71 on a game show from 1970
@@chaosdemonwolf1 1971 was the last good year for a really long time, too.
@@scdevon Last good year for damn near everything
@@chaosdemonwolf1 1971 was when we officially went off the gold standard and the last of the precious metal was removed from coins. Draw your own conclusions.
@@chaosdemonwolf1 The 71s came out in 70 duh. All cars always come out six months ahead 🤔
A flashback to the early days of this series
And better times 😊
That check is equivalent to over 71,000 big ones today
RIP Monty Hall, 9/30/2017, 96 years .
He was unquestionably one of the greatest emcees ever. Right up there with Bob Barker and Bill Cullen. What a terrific showman.
The first time I remember seeing Monty hall is when i was 8 years old when the All new Let's make a deal debuted in 1984.
Monty is still my favorite host with funny looking contestants. I wonder if Monty is still doing his fling on LMAD with funny looking contestants in heaven? It's quite possible.
$4500 for a fur coat in 1970? That fur can easily cost $30,000 today.
@@scoobycarr5558 : "OK, President Lincoln - I have a box here on the display floor. You can have that, or you can trade with Joan of Arc for the purse that she's holding."
Sorry, couldn't resist. ;-)
I would stay home:sick" from.school to watch TV. This show made me feel so happy to be home back then. It was comforting somehow.
Melinda Lawley
For me the real star of this show was Jay Stewart. Announced the openings, then would run down in the audience to describe a product that Monty Hall was hawking, then reappear in costume on stage in one of the zonkers, like milking a cow or riding a tricycle, then back to the audience with Monty Hall to describe another item or product, never ever making a mistake! And he was no spring chicken either. The early shows with him were the best!
Don’t forget about Carol Merrill!!
@@trwent You're absolutely right! She was a big part of the original show. 👍
Yes Monty Hall was nothing in this show. Lol.
: @@trwent: How can anyone forget "the lovely Carol Merrill".
Rest in piece monty hall. We love you
Yes, he was FUN. Looked like a Used Car Salesman a lot of the time but that was the 'Bit' I guess.
(I always wondered if Herb Tarlek of 'WKRP in Cincinnati' was based off of him. LOL)
I was searching for some of the older shows once I found out he passed.
Great Episode...
A 1970 Pontiac Grandville....total price of that car is $6,024.00. But now, the prices of our new automobiles is currently more than $25,000.00.
It was actually a '71 Grand Ville.
You cant compare the 2. 6,000.00 is just about the same as 20,000.00 in todays money. You have no idea what you are typing about. My Dad supported his entire family off of 400.00 a month. Rent, food, & bills. Thats what young military men made back then.
I know, back in the 90’s it was rare to see a car that started with a 2. Nowadays it’s rare to see it start with 1.
Of course a $6, 5lb ham is more than $25 today
@@namk19 That's not true you can buy a new car today for under 20k. These old one's look much better than the jellybean cars today but let's start with the KIA, or a Fiat or ...
Great Episode! Plus, Monty's first deal was sort of a predecessor to TPIR's Grand Game.
+Pedro Gomez Jr Oddly enough, in the original pitch film for "The Price is Right" that was sent to network affiliates for syndication, it included a clip of Dennis James (who would eventually host syndicated TPIR) sub-hosting "Let's Make a Deal". It makes me wonder how many ideas TPIR got from LMAD.
@@bluebear1985 Pricing games came from LMAD.
And heck, that first deal, what a comeback.
These 70s episodes are much better than the new episodes yuk.
0:15 The theme song with horns!
20:45 - GSN did a promo using this shot of...."Carol Merrill.....glamour girl......seductress!" 😆 It was a description of Carol can distract and lead people to make decisions on Let's Make a Deal!
No else did it like Monty Hall - a staple name in game show right up there with Dick and Gene.
Notice that Monty and Jay had to share a microphone, unlike today's LMAD where they all had their own mics.
But the old one's were much more exciting and the cars were much nicer
and two people (or couples) picked from the "Big Deal" of the day--so the likelihood of the Big Deal being picked was almost guaranteed each week. The current version with Wayne Brady only has one person picking a curtain for the Big Deal
Used to watch this when I stayed home from school in junior High. Good memories..
Ah,the good old days!
The 70's versions pf Let's Make A Deal were the best! The 84-85 All New Let's Make A Deal had a smaller budget and would often repeat prizes too much. They would try to trick people when playing for cars or trips by having final items so difficult to price with a very small range. "Price this for me within $5.00." for a $125.00 item. You almost had to take the sure thing in the 84-86 version to avoid a big let down. The big cars and trips were rarely ever won on pricing games and the show had a feel like they wanted it that way. Especially in the 84-86 season. You had a better chance of winning a car or trip by going for the big deal, or on the "Dealer Wheel" than you would in a pricing game.
IIRC, this show paid the taxes for the contestants that won the Big Deal of the Day. Jay would say, "We're adding taxes and licenses to make the total value of your deal worth...."
Was such a treat to watch when I was home sick from school on a 12 inch black and white set. RIP Monty💞🙏🏻
Depending on the month, I was in 3rd or 4th grade during 1970. I watched this during summers...no school!
I’d like to have that Pontiac in mint condition.🤩
Google, there's plenty for sale mint condition, just be ready to pay about 20k. Not bad
@@m42037without looking that’s false. You can’t buy a new car for much less 20k now. Especially not mint vintage car from 50 years ago.
I have to admit, I have a huge crush on Carol Merrill, especially when I was a kid.
best times and days
Monty Hall was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and was an excellent high school student who hoped to go to medical school. However, antisemitism was rife in those days and the University of Manitoba had a quota for Jewish students and Monty didn't get in. He ultimately went to Toronto and then to the US
100 200 300 Four!, 500 600 700 more! Famous words!
i love when buzzr does it on their commercials
Aunt Betty used to tell me I look like Monty Hall when I was a kid...
16:47 - Overture by Ivan Ditmars!
RIP Bob Barker😢
19:53 Hard to believe gas was $2.50 per gallon back then….
12:33 lol there's actually a guy in blackface
And you think that's funny
@@isaiahhatten7973 I'm laughing at the craziness of it, anonymous RUclips user. If you want a list of people who actually wore blackface and *would* think it's genuinely funny, here are some names for you to direct your outrage at....Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, Justin Trudeau, Jimmy Fallon, Joy Behar, Colton Haynes, Ted Danson, Fred Armisen, Cindi Lauper, Howard Stern, Billy Crystal, Luann de Lesseps, Ralph Northam, Mark Herring....whew.....Joni Mitchell, Julianne Hough....you get the idea.
I love watching these, except for one thing...the fur coats... ☹
How did Monty walk up and down those steps without tripping over the microphone cord?
Lots of practice
Well, from losing a chance at $10,000 to getting a new car. That is not a bad consolation prize at all.
38 cents!!!!!!!
I wish they would go back to the 2 people at the big deal
Come all over
I thought they would say world or Europe or something
But then I forgot at this time , no such a thing
Oh that game show music is so dramatic
Why?

Huh. The ABC primetime version. Cool.

Learned long ago you pay taxes in that state and your home state for anything you win. So yeah no thanks
Yes it’s better to pay full price for a car and just local taxes - instead of getting a free car and paying both states tax. Lol.
