  • In this video I wanted to share a bit about my personal experience letting go of the weight of expectation I put on mysef for so many years, and realizing that with each passing day my aspirations and goals felt less necessary in order to feel like I’ve ‘done something’ with my life. I still have things I’d like to do, but I suppose the big change is that I’m not putting pressure on myself to do things quickly or a certain way, but let life reveal itself over time. I know this doesn’t apply to everyone, but for me it’s been meaningful, so I wanted to share with the hope we can pause now and then in the midst of our busy lives to smell the roses ☺️ title: I have no ambition in life - but I feel fine

It’s been a little while! I’m chipping away at my videos just a bit at a time while balancing everything else ❤ thank you to all who have shared such lovely words and are still enjoying these little videos 😊 to clarify, I think some people are interpreting having ambition as having the desire to do anything at all or desiring to meet basic needs. I’m taking my definition from the mainstream idea of ‘always wanting more’ as well as the Webster definition of it being the relentless pursuit of ‘success, money, and power’. Obviously, I have a desire to work hard to meet my needs (and all those who depend on me) for survival and to thrive, I’m referring to deciding that meeting those needs is enough for me, and I do not need to constantly be working towards the next big thing, to do more and have more just because. Hope that helps others understand my intention here. Best wishes
I appreciate how many gifts and letters I’ve been sent, I just want to apologize again that I cannot respond to all of it. Please know it is appreciated and I’m only sorry I cannot take enough days off to write everyone back. I appreciate your understanding 🙏

Yeah I saw someone post on reddit. I work in IT and they asked how people find time to get certifications. This dude answers and says roughly that he works full time 8-9 hours, comes home and makes dinner and then works on certifications for 4+ hours, goes to bed for 4-6 hours...every...day. Rinse and repeat. I cannot fucking do that nor should I have to. My day ends at 4:30 PM. That is it. If my work wants me to do certifications, they can have me do that during work time.

I graduated high school in 1976, a time when women were told we can do it all. If we weren't doing it all, we were somehow letting down all of womanhood. So, I did, I have 3 advanced degrees, and 4 children. I worked full time and took care of family...or at least I thought I was. I had a nanny taking care of my kids and wearing myself out being active every waking minute of every day. When my kids were grown, I left my big life, retired early, and now live in a 4-room farmhouse where I spend my time in my art studio or just doing nothing. I spend time with my grandchildren and family...life is slow and simple. I am so glad you are seeing there is a plus to slow and simple in your younger years. Enjoy.

I’ve never had a career goal or had an epiphany of “that’s what I want to be!” All I knew since a young age up until now is that I wanted a cottage or small home off in the woods with chickens and small animals. A garden to care for and live a simple life. It’s sad that a lot of people deem that ambitious-less or boring. I know I want to read my books and live off my own land. I guess it’s just the “how” I’m going to get there for me.

At a phase in my life where I experienced solitude and nature, a lot of guilt and other feelings of unworthiness came up due to a lack of "productivity". That is very true it is really hard to unlearn what has been drilled into us and affected us from a very young age as though we are not enough until we prove our worth based on society's current standards.
I think in some ways social media has been good in this sense that we can connect far more easily with people who have found their truth and who know how to separate their lives and goals from what others expect of them which is so encouraging and helps us take that step.
I am a stay at home mom in my early 30s and I often feel I am still fighting against this or having to justify my decision to some people who are intrusive and I really have to unlearn this. I hope you continue to grow and learn and enjoy your retirement on your own terms.

I don’t think it’s that you don’t have ambition in life per say. Ambition doesn’t have to equal career goals. I think, wanting to live life in a way that feels fulfilling to you, and having a dedication to that goal is a type of ambition in itself. I say this all because I myself have been having many of the same kinds of thoughts as you, and it’s refreshing, so refreshing, to hear somebody else give voice to those feelings. It made me feel less alone and less guilty for not wanting to give in to the social pressure to live by other people’s standards.

With time, I've realized I'm not made for the kind of lifestyle that society pressures us to follow. I don't want to always be in a rush, I despise the idea of being confined to a desk for most of my day, I dread the idea of feeling helpless and stuck in a dehumanizing routine. This can't be life, can it? We are here for such a brief time, I can't imagine spending it like that. Of course working is necessary and can also be rewarding, but I simply cannot imagine myself in a 9-5 soulless job for the rest of my life, surrounded by equally soulless people. There's so much inside of me that needs nurturing, so many dreams and things going on... I just want peace and time, and kindred spirits to share life with.

With each passing year, I feel the need to live slower and more peacefully. I do have many goals and dreams, such as making my living as an artist and RUclipsr a reality while traveling the world, but it's not in some crazy adventurous way. I want to travel slowly, taking my time learning about each country and culture on a deeper level, spending many months in each place I live, and spend my days outside painting the landscapes and scenes that I see. I also do want to settle down sooner than later, preferably within the next few years. To be able to buy a small plot of land in a forest and live out a peaceful life growing my own food and being present with my future family. Most of my ambitions are creative and spiritual, and I don't want to stress about the projects I'm working on. I want to be grounded and create because I love what I do, not based off what society tells me I should do.
I recently turned 30 and have been feeling this deeper than ever before. Yes, I'm working hard trying to make these dreams a reality, but I'm also reminding myself not to rush through life, to simply be present and enjoy each passing moment. Listen to your soul. 🌲💙

You said a powerfully familiar thing, that everything you thought would make you happy didn’t. That was true for me as well.
My husband of 42 years and I raised 6; 4boys, 2girls, and they have all become model adults true to their individual passions interests, and pursuits. .. and have their own beautiful families and all live 15 minutes away in their tree lined community, sub-divisions. It was truly a labor of love to be a stay home mom for 25 years, because I had originally romanticized the thought of motherhood because I thought that being a mom would make me happy and truly it didn’t, because I don’t like conflict and raising human beings-let alone 6- is all about resolving conflicts, conflicts of ideas, and temperament. I’m a homebody and love quietude and they were vibrant social bodies😅, but thankfully Thankfully I survived the long night, and now, it is day, and I smile and wonder how I survived it all. The story is told and now the pen is in their hands to write the next chapters of a family.. and if I had known it would be so hard, I would have fortified myself with practical and tactical 😅training for workplace conflict resolution 😅 which is what a home becomes for the mother. The work of raising adults is no crystal stair, or flowered garden, it is the trenches of life in heart break and heart building.

I cannot even BEGIN to say how I relate to this! We are pretty much taught from the moment we can think and understand that we should decide how we’ll fit into the capitalist machine of do, do, do, make more money, work more, sell your soul to your career, like it’s the most important thing ever. For a very long time, I stressed over how I could please those people, but nowadays, I am perfectly content working a day job and then going home to my partner and my hobbies and just doing what I want, without worrying about what people think and how I ambitious I really am. Sometimes I am jealous that others have that drive to do “great things”, but I have to remind myself that that’s their journey, not mine. Right now, my journey involves exploring new things (like traditional magic and mindfulness) and giving more grace to myself. Thanks so much for all your beautiful and validating work!

Legally being a single dad followed less than a year later. Raising a child is a challenge. Lots of chances to mess it up. I think being a parent is the biggest ambition there is. I'm an old man in his sixties, doing his own art & craft thing. Never so old that I cannot be encouraged, so thank you for sharing your inner world. x

Thank you Paola for defining "Just Live". Taking the pressure off to be superhuman make one feel lighter and more appreciative about enjoying the details of life. You are a life savior.

I love the clarity of instead of making something of your life, you’ve chose to live it. That’s a beautiful goal. We lose ourselves in the hustle and bustle of trying to make something of our lives.

Life is about making your inner self happy ,loving yourself and not being pulled in by drama ,that’s ambition, make ing your soul happy ,whatever that may be ,being content in your own world ,material things and money will never make you happy ,making your own material things is what rewarding, big ambitions is what has ruined this beautiful world ,you got this right 🥰🥰🥰

Well, you're having a child. Raising it is probably one of the ultimate things one can "do" with their lives. Wish I had that

Dear Paola, I so love your not being ambitious. It gives the world a well needed beak of this crazy mentality that we are not enough, in the moment. Thank you! Your videos keep providing a place of “mental and emotional refuge” for me. They help me to picture what I wish for me and believe that it’s all on its way...

I, too, have been carrying around loads of pressure and haven’t figured out how to let it all go yet. I hope if you’re reading this, you are having a sweet and wonderful year. You are worth more than you think. Stay safe out there. You all are doing a wonderful job in whatever you are working on, even if it is yourself.

Wow. I love this video. If we go in search for more and more in our lives the less satisfied we feel.
This video taught me to live simple and peaceful life without much expectations.

Paola I have introduced you to so many of my friends. My hair dresser is known as The Hair Fairy and she reminds me so much of you. Her soft spoken voice and love for all nature. Enjoy just living life what ever that means to you. You have enriched my life every week with your approach on life and being who you are and whatever makes you happy. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with me.❤❤❤❤

I’ve watched you change and grow and have also changed along the way. Contentment is now my goal in life. Thank you for showing me creativity is an end not a means toward an end. I’ve learned to just enjoy my imperfection. Thank you for all your thought provoking videos. I’m so excited for you and your husband and new baby.❤

My journey is never over. Now at 60 I feel free to do what I please. So I carry on looking after myself first and my family comes second. Health and happiness, a life of ease. I've traveled and find no need to go outside myself for validation. 🎉love your videos glad I happened upon your channel.❤

Thank you for talking about the "only if" myth. I really appreciated your comments particularly on looking a certain way and being proud "only if" I look a certain way. That really resonated.

In my humble opinion, you ARE a very successful artist and creator! But I do appreciate you speaking to this, as I can definitely relate. I don’t have a family and I do struggle with this tension between external expectations and inner desire to live a simple and peaceful life.
