One of my favorite songs, as well: a beautiful lyric by the great Mitchell Parish -- one of his best, I believe. I love how you have transplanted the action largely to England, for the British Stone's band. This recording is the only instance I'm aware of in which the vocalist says, "... just you and I, dear," instead of "you and me." ... Just a lovely presentation here, capturing all the glamour and romance in the song!

Hello Grzegorz - I hope that you're having a great weekend in Bydgoszcz while here - in the States - Thanksgiving is a big deal - and I have always liked it a lot for a lot of reasons. Long story short - this beautiful upload reminds me of the times in music when the melody and the lyrics sounded evocative, poetic, artistic. Alan Kane's voice sounds warm, well trained - however - Al Bowlly - a great looking performer died very young in some air catastrophy. What a loss to jazz vocalists' class!

Fabulous video Grzgorz, loved Lew Stone's version of this song. Loved the London scenes.
    Verdict: Totally brilliant as usual.

@MaisSimples "The modest maestro"? What a very nice term to describe that outstanding singer! I did not know it. Thank you! :-)

@fredjmp Hi Fred and thank you :-)) This siong belongs to my absolute Top Ten and I can listen and listen to it in all possible interpretations. Also, Ella Fitzgerald's version from the 1960s is simply breathtaking. I'd love to upload it here, but I'm sure the clip would be immediately copyrighted and banned by the admins. This, what's going on about the copyrights in YT nowadays is simply some sort of a manic behavior. They begin to ban even the accoustic recordings of Caruso from the 1900s!

@tango3721 Hi Lana, the story about Bowlly I know is a little different. He died in his apartment during one of the first German air raids on London. As one of the You Tubers added (a little maliciously...) - he died because he did not feel like getting up and walking down into the basement where other people were hiding. He preferred to stay in bed and look throuhg his favourite comic books, instead :-((

I love Lew Stone! But for this song, I have a preference for Richard Himer & Joey Nash"s version!
    Thanks for sharing!

Interesting that 1930s songs get literally faster as they approach the 40s.

Not in my experience; I've collected 1930s music for nearly 60 years now and what in 1931 would be described as a foxtrot would by 1938 often be a quickstep. In fact most early '30s (dance) records in 4/4 time were described as foxtrots - it wasn't until the middle of the decade that one began to see "slow foxtrot", or "quickstep" appear on labels, to distinguish between tempi.

@CaptEm1 Hello :-)) I would be glad to help but the addres you gave me seems to be incomplete - it doesn't link to any of You Tube films!

@Trombonology yes, you're right- also, "you and I" is grammatically incorrect, as well as not the way it was written. Also, It should be "you and me" to rhyme with "heavenly".

@240252 Hi Grzegorz, great channel! I was wondering if you could tell me which version of this song is being played in this youtube video: /watch?v=iDb1oyVKnP4 The song begins at around 59:38, and you'll hear a singer 1 minute or so into it. There is a narration going on in the background, so it's a little hard to hear, but hopefully it won't be a problem. Would greatly appreciate it, thanks!

    Great old tune, nicely done.
However, it should be "just you and me, dear" " not you and I", both to rhyme with "heavenly" and to be grammatically correct.
How did this get past the boys from Cambridge?
    still, nicely done.
    Thanks for it.-Bill in Canada
