New subscriber here. I love this. We really don't get the use out of a sergers that we should. Didn't realise it could cut through a zip like that. Excellent tutorial and easy to follow ❤
Thanks for your comment 🌷 definitely give this a go to develop new skills. Sometimes it really doesn’t matter if it’s not perfect. It’s the taking part.
I just got my overlocked last week. I love this little purse and how you explained it looks so simple. I am not a sewer but I’m excited to make this. Thank you for this video 🤗
Thanks so much Abi! I've been using an overlocker for 40 years but I have learned so much since finding your videos this week. So many good tips to make my projects easier and better. Great information. Well done!!
Abi I am delighted to find your site, your tutorials are so easy to follow. Now to unbox my serger that I bought 6 months and start my first project. Thank you from Ireland
I am looking to buy a overlocker. Not a air overlocker. But one that very easy to thread. I bought the cheapest pfaff one I sent back. I could not for life me thread one of them it was so difficult for me. 3 thread where easy last one a nightmare. . Anyone know a beginner easy threading. Overlocker , Not to expense overlocker ?
A great first project for me, I now have 3 wonderful zip purses. I bought an overlocker in May and was quite nervous about using it. I learnt so much from your video, I gained confidence and really enjoyed getting to know how to sew with an overlocker. Thank you - great video.
Hi Abi, I've just made my first purse on my new overlocker. Without your tutorial I would never have had the confidence to sew through the zip but I did it, so chuffed thanks so much your brilliant X
Just bought an overlocker and was looking for something to have a go at. Absolutely loved your video , so clear and will be making one of these this afternoon, Thanks so much.
Very nice and useful project. I have been sewing for many years and want to purchase an over locker. This video made it easy to see why I would like one. Thank you.
Thank you for such simple instructions, I’ve just completed this project, it’s not as straight as yours but it works and it was stress free… now on to the next 👍🏻😃
I have just made my first purse using my new overlocker and your instructions. So very pleased with it. I am a beginner and found your video very easy. I will be checking out more of your videos. Thank you.
Great tutorial for a total novice, like me! Very interesting watching the construction techniques, with the turning hole. And I guess this can be scaled up for tote bags and the likes? Extremely helpful 😊
I was struggling so much with threading my new overlock serger. I followed the instructions that came with the machine over and over again, but the stitches never turned out right. I was just about ready to give up when I tried your suggestion to move the knife out of the way before threading and it was the absolute key! I was so excited to finally be able to successfully thread my serger and produce perfect stitches!! Despite watching many, many videos and reading multiple tips from experts, I never saw that suggestion anywhere. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom!
I want to have a go at this. I have had an over locker for about two years and am not using to it's full potential. Thank you for making it so easy to understand
Hello. I'm new in your channel. This is the first viedo i saw and i love it. 🙂🇵🇹 can't wait to see more. I have achieved my overlocker a week ago and dind't realize it could cut the zipper. Thanks for sharing with us.
Always need a thread catcher - so messy without!Glad to help. I have a Top Tips video coming soon, subscribe and hit that bell to get the notification :
This was fantastic - I used Abi’s tutorial to thread my machine and then went on to do this right after. I feel much more confident and am going to try another project
That's such a beautiful fabric and it looks great. You make it look so easy and that's what I like about your videos - you don't make everything look overly complicated and it makes me want to give it a go. I had thought about buying a concealed zipper foot for my sewing machine but the overlocker makes a great job with zips! Thanks for sharing x
That overlocker looks great , I would love to buy one but it feels pretty scary , this has certainly opened up my eyes to the possibilities for the future , thankyou so much for the demonstration and amazing for Lidl’s !!!!
Thank you so much Aldi. My hub is around the bed , and I must be around him . Your tutorial is great for me to do as I am bounding home with him . Love and thank .
My first overlocker arrives tomorrow, and I'm now ready to go for the bits and bobs bag :). I never knew how to make a lined bag before, so very appreciative of the instruction. I only watched this because I'd already watched your Jaguar review (which I'm buying), and was interested in any differences of the Lidl Singer (that I missed out on). By the time you got to the end I'd completely forgotton this was a Singer performance video, until I re-read the title. Had never registered until now that overlockers can't do corners...I've saved this video to make sure I can find it again!
Hi just found you on RUclips. Have same overlocker, but apart from threading it up haven’t used it. Thanks so much for your video, will be having a go at making a bag like yours.
I have just acquired an over locker from my mum who has passed away 😢 I did not know that you could complete a task like this with such a machine. Am I right in saying that a surger creates a stronger stitch than a regular sowing machine excellent tutorial I shall watch your channel for more exciting projects
The serger doesn’t create a stronger stitch, per say, but it is a strong stitch. I have made tight stretch wear, jeans, stuffed toys 🧸 and the stitch doesn’t pop or expose itself. So it works well with the correct settings x
Thank you so much, Abi! I've got this machine since Christmas, but I wasn't brave enough to use it. Your tutorials are so helpful. Now I'm so looking forward to try it! ❤️
I've had my serger a few months and only just started to use it. I watched your video, copied it step by step, and Hey Presto,,, I've made my first zip pouch on it!, thankyou so much.
Fast and fun! Really just playtime...shhhh don't tell lol. I still like to use my tried and true.....oh, so much work!! In there sewing my poor fingers down to the bone!!! Hahaaa
Great video. Took me a while to realise I had chosen a zip with chunky teeth, so I couldn’t get enough of the fabric under the pressure foot. Consequently, I had loops sticking out past the edge of the zip and the seam was weak.
Oh no. If you adjust the knife, you should be able to avoid those loops. Tighten the needle tension also. Did you try again? Did it work the next time?
I have had my overlocker for about 4 years and I’m delighted with it and a great price, this week the timing has been knocked out ,I wasn’t going over anything thick, I have phoned two local repair places who both said if if needs a part they can’t help me, but they will still charge £80 so it looks like I will have to buy a new one 😢
You can fix the timing yourself for free. Look for the timing videos on my channel. It’s so easy and if a part is broken, you may be able to repair it yourself. 💪🏽💕
Love your show!!!!! Very good instructional easy to follow and you have Alots of great sewing ideas. I miss sewing so much. My mother taught me when I was about 5 years old, on a old green Singer she still has. Was making my new grand baby p.j.'s when Hurricane Michael came through. Well, keep up the good work. Fabulous, I"ve just bought my first overlocker after at least a decade of pondering the idea! Enjoyed this tutorial! Thank you!
I did make this using an ordinary sewing machine as I dont have a serger. Amazed myself as it turned out quite good. Thanks for showing...
Very nice and useful project. I have been sewing for many years and want to purchase an over locker. This video made it easy to see why I would like one. Thank you.
It’s not too shabby. Really good for the price. Much better than some of the leading brands too !

Thank you Abi! That is a wonderful project and convinced me to get an overlocker.

Hi Abi, I’ve recently discovered your channel and love it. I notice you just cut the ends off at each side . Would the stitching not come undone ?
I love ur videos and think you are a fantastic teacher. Would you be better off top stitching your zips in
Where can I but extra presser feet for a Brother M343D please or are the overlocker presser feet universal for all Brother overlockers?
All brother Overlockers are the same. The 1034 series of feet fit all. If you’re in the uk ask fabric mouse and use code Abisden for a discount
I love your tutorials and have been recommending them to my sewing group friends here in Ireland. If using a patterned fabric for the lining, is it face up or face down?
Love it!
