I emigrated to NS (Halifax) in the 80's many fond memories. I was married in New Glasgow & we honeymooned in Cape Bretton, the Cabot trail was amazing to witness the colours of the trees in the fall. One of my fondest & funniest memories was going to see the pope's visit. I had broken my ankle at work a few weeks previous to his visit, and was convalescing at my apartment on Lawrence St, which was very close to Halifax Common on Robie St. I hobbled down there on crutches with my nephew. Just before the pope came past in his pope mobile, my nephew took my crutches while I leaned on a tree. Just after the pope had passed us, he threw down the crutches, then started dancing & shouting " I'm healed, I'm healed" To the shock & amazement of the many bystanders. Well before mobile phones with video which is a shame. Do they still have on channel 9 the Cape Bretton Liberation Army? I used to laugh so much when the guy would look at the camera and say "Keep Cape Bretton away from the mainland, or I'll puck you in de mouth Bi" priceless ❤I truly miss Nova Scotia, some of the friendliest, kind, down to earth people I've ever met. 🥰
Just moved to the outskirts of Halifax from Ontario and love it here. People are simply amazing, helpful and kind, though I am chatty at te best if times so that does help lol. Best part is my son lives here and my grandson was born in Halifax… my chance to see him grow. Definitely love to travel and looking forward to your videos.
Its a pleasant city but generally wages dont match the housing and rent market, transit is serverely understaffed and the health care system has collapsed. There is a 100 000 plus waitlist for a family doctor.
Haha, I’m in the fan group of those who watched you guys before moving to Halifax and now when I’m in Halifax. I actually watched the video from right outside the public library that’s in the video! Thanks ✨
It's nice to see you doing Halifax again! We live in Lower Sackville and went into Halifax last night for the fireworks. It was great to walk around the waterfront. We haven't been to the waterfront or fireworks in a long time. I feel so proud when you guys show how great Halifax is. I was born and raised here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
Hotdogs are very popular in Iceland, and they often have crispy onions on top like the one you had Trevor. You guys have to go there now to be able to compare the two!
What a lovely video ! You did a perfect introduction of Halifax ! I should go to visited. Even for a job, it could be interesting but as I am a french my English is not really perfect... Do you think it is still possible to find a job (in audiovisual stuff 😂, I don't really know if it's a common job here)
I was in Halifax two weeks ago on the Caribbean Princess. Beautiful and bustling waterfront boardwalk and, yes, that Cow's ice cream is simply the best, I could eat all day! The Citadel Hill is quiet an imposing landmark but didn't have the time to be in a long queue to the museum. Heard that noon canon at 12:00 right on the hill. Spent a good chunk of my time in the Maritime Museum - the huge collection of everything about ships is unbelievable. The Public Gardens is charming and it's free! The city is busy and you have quiet a number of constructions going up around the downtown area. Looks like you are Vancouver in the making! Is Dartmouth a separate city or a district of Halifax?
Dartmouth used to be a separate city, but there was a big amalgamation back in the nineties. Now the official city of Halifax encompasses the entire county, going from Hubbards to Ecum Secum (yes, that is a real place).
In guess, it’s good for the select few, i.e., speculators and investors. Not good in every way for the majority of Halifolks like young families, seniors on fixed income, and those who are just joining the work force.
Love your videos! I also live in Nova Scotia. I do have to disagree on the weather ...this summer and last summer have been incredibly hot. With humidity we have had tons of days in the high 30's and even over 40 (Celsius). Also i was wondering if you are allowed to fly the drone over Halifax/HRM ...i don't remember seeing any footage of that in past videos but i might just be forgetting.
Thanks for watching Sharon! With the hospital helicopter and the Shearwater base so close we never fly the drone in the city to be safe 👍 Re: Heat We're pretty used to hotter weather than most Nova Scotians 😉 A quick week of heat isn't enough for us at all and a lot of others coming from aboard / moving here. It gets cold quick as we all know. Honestly....Nova Scotians get way to hung up on 'humidity'. We noticed this even more returning home from our last trip. It's all people talk about... and sharks 🤪 🦈 no joke - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers True we Maritimers spend a lot of time talking about the weather lol! I live in a 125+ year old house with no A/C so i guess I'm just minding it more this year! I do hate winter though so I'm with you guys on that one!!
We landed in Halifax from Toronto. Rented a car (reserved the rental about 2 months in advance) and did Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, and Peggy's Cove. Then we went to Cape Breton for two days. We stayed in Iona and visited Baddeck, Sydney, Ingonish, Cheticamp, Margaree Harbour, Inverness, and Port Hawkesbury and went back to Halifax and returned home. It was touch and go for the most part because we were only there for 5 nights. This is my first time in NS. I plan to be back more. 😊😊
It’s lovely to live in a playground until the realities set in. Just beware that if you have a good reliable doctor and veterinarian where you are now then I suggest that you rethink a move to Nova Scotia.
Another great video! I lived in the South End and worked downtown until the late ‘90’s. Halifax has grown so much since then. Haven’t been downtown and on the waterfront since then but because of your video, I’ll have to go back for a visit!!
Halifax is honestly not as nice as it was. Everything has to change, I get it, but back in the 90's and early 2000's, Halifax had that mid size city with a small town feel. Now Halifax has a mid size city with a big city feel. Halifax is losing its charm. It's honestly best to live outside the city if you can.
Quick addendum to your comments about the weather. 7 months of snow, slush and rain (waterproof footwear is an absolute must). 2.5 months of real summer No Spring. Lots of sweater weather. And if you're a tourist , the signs warning to stay off the black rocks are there for a reason (locals will know exactly what I'm talking about).
So envious that you guys are only 4-5 hours from Europe or the Caribbean. I don't think we can get anywhere outside of Australia in that amount of time!

Highest taxes in the country, shit job market for anything to sustain as a job (shipyard and Navy are the only standouts), a bumbling team of councilors that make up HRM city council, turning narrow roads into even more narrow roads with bike lanes, no parking in Halifax downtown core so people who live outside city limits but still in the municipality feel ostracized from the area... I'm curious as to why people want to move here too haha.
There's a thriving Tech Industry as well. Don't leave that out. Many folks like the bike lanes and there's plenty of places to park. Holy ignorant response. I'm here based on work and work alone. Like I said. NO PARKING. Massive parking lot down at the dock yard. City is taking a good portion of that for a roundabout. Hilarious. Also, the only CFB in ALL OF CANADA that has to pay for parking. Take that into consideration too. I've lived here for all 36 years of my life bud. It's gone increasingly downhill for the livable/fun factor. If businesses in the downtown core want to cater to those who live there, so be it, but don't come crying when inflation hits so high that those folk can no longer get afford to go out and eat/drink AND afford their skyrocket rent prices. Give your head a shake bud.
