Suddenly a rush of memories from the 60s come to mind. Being in PJs watching A Charlie Brown Christmas along with the Rankin/Bass holiday specials, looking through the Christmas catalogs wondering what toys I will get, and the beautiful holiday decorations everywhere. This vintage Ed Sullivan TV Show really takes me back to what seemed like a more simple and innocent time. Thanks for sharing it with us.
That's how I grew up in the 70s. Listening to all the beautiful Christmas 🎄 music on the radio. The beautiful colorful Christmas lights and decorations. Commercials didn't start airing until 1st or 2nd week of December, going through catalogs looking at toys and Christmas shows cartoons like Charlie Brown Christmas and Mr. Magoos Christmas Carol. Times were so different simple and more fun. My parents loved watching Ed Sullivan in the 60s and I love watching it now. Wish I was a part of this era and that times were simple how they were over 50 years ago.
When my brother and I were kids, instead of wanting to be superheros or sports icons, I wanted to be a musician / singer who was cool enough to have his own TV specials or a series. My goal was to one day be as cool as Herb Alpert or the Monkees. This video is so cool. I was transported to being 4 & 1/2 in front of a big old B&W Magnavox set.
They were absolutely HUGE in those years. Their music was everywhere and they sold tons of records. Immediately identifiable, they had a sound that really hit with the public back then. Miles Davis said, “You hear three notes and you know it's Herb Alpert.”
Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass as well as the Baja Marimba Band were the best easy listening musicians of the 1960s. They also had great album covers.
Herbs 87 and incredibly "still" perfòrming with wife Lani....amazing biopic on this very humble & gifted man entitled "Herb Alpert is"...highly recommend.....👍🙏
That is Bob Edmondson, the trombone player. Both born in 1935, he and Herb Alpert met in high school. In the band, Herb was “the cool guy” and Bob was “the funny guy”. He passed away in May of 2021. Herb is 87.
Herb Alpert and his band kicked butt. 😁 You know you're good when you can play this style of music and be competitive against the rock-and-roll greats, chart wise. And they were.

Starting a month later than last year for posting Christmas videos. I preferred the earlier postings so I could have my Christmas playlist complete and ready for the holidays. But I'll take whatever I can get when I can get them because these vintage holiday moments are very precious.
I wore mine out playing it year round. Happily bought another. By the time it wore out... cassettes... CDs ... and now, here. Favorite of favorites. I wanted his Let it Snow be my wedding processional... but got married in June. Dang.
saw them about 6 months before this appearance at the opening of Blossom Music venue near Akron, ohio. I really appreciate them more now than back then. Great stuff.
Happy Thanksgiving!🦃 I hope you are doing well. Isn''t life just so funny?! You have to have a forgiving heart or you will never get to know someone. You jumped on my post one time and made me a little angry, but yet I saw a huge heart in you. I'm Thankful for the times you shared with me. 💖
Love this version. And note it's actually in film and not videotape. Adds a more classic look. Amazing performance. It must have been a thing in the 60's for a host to give "permission" to sing a song. I've heard that line used on a few other shows. Cymbal guy at 1:16. Nails it but looks so nervous after he does!
This is the Christmas sountrack of my life, since i was a teen, i carry this woderfull music on my heart. My late wife , Isabel love this these tunes and every Christmas we play the entire album. this is timeless music for all young at heart. Merry Christmas or like we say here in my Puerto Rico , Feliz Navidad for all!
Is this actually live? In the first piece I hear instruments (like a flute) that aren't there. And of course the singers. And the second one... I don't think they could mike this without a visible mic back then. Love this Christmas album though... always been a staple of my holidays since I discovered it in the 80s.
They had overhead microphones. But a lot of times Sullivan would pre-tape performances and splice the best together. Or pre-tape the audio and the band/singer would lip sync/mime to the music.
Real people. Real instruments. Real music. Real cool.
That Christmas album was pure genius!
Still one of my all time favorites!

Dang you just recited part of my childhood in the 70's. Especially the Rankin Bass TV specials and the Sears' Wish Books.

@@agentgringo5238 Yep! Wish there was an actual time machine!!
My sentiments exactly!!
Ah, yeah, those were the days. That time in general was a "really big shoe" as Ed would say.
Dude started A&M Records. He gave us the Police.....legend
Also saved Chaplin studios

Whipped Cream!
They should have done some eye candy for us ladies, then, too, Joe. 😐
@@mariantreber8055 😄. Herb was a much more attractive man than, say, Bert Kaempfert
@@joehill8014 So, why not put Herb in a pile of whipped cream?!!! They should have thought of that.
No one brought up Bert. 😐
@@mariantreber8055 Bert was just for comparison. Herb didn't need the whipped cream. He was way too cool. 😉

He still has his chops
I love the guy with cymbal. He's counting the beats, hits it then has an expression like, "wow, this like hard work."

I think I’ve got Herb’s whole vinyl catalogue!
And those who know, are anxiously waiting for Jim Carolla’s trumpet duet with Herb Alpert!
Classic and from one of the best Christmas albums ever!

Can't believe so many folks think the guy was really stressed out. It was his shtick. Just an entertaining performance.
LOL that would be me in a band having one thing to do just to hit a cymbal on time.
Didn’t know Ed included previously filmed pieces. This was also shot on film and not videotaped.
My mom had quite a few herb alfred records
I never heard this one. The strings sounded like the James Bond theme.
¡También lo pensé! 😀
Not accidental
Nice, but wonder if it is played live?
Dude was very stressed out about that cymbal crash he had to do. "I gotta count right because ... What if I crash it at the wrong time? Jeez!"

El presidente.
He’s very rich too
That looked a bit like Neil Sedaka on piano.
But why are they lip-synching?
OMG Xmas music... yuck
