Same here. Born in 1962. My brother, who is 12 years older than me, had a couple Tijuana Brass albums when he was in high school in the late 60s. I always loved hanging out in my brother's room when he was playing his TJB albums. So I was listening to Herb as a preschooler and loving it!

My mum used to play Herb Alpert music on a Sunday morning back in the 60s when I was very young. I have grown to love his music and it brings back wonderful memories of her.
When I was young I purchase a record player and my mother insisted on me purchasing TJB. I knew it was her favorite and so I did just that. I must admit I grew accustom to the sounds and enjoyed the music. This brings back so many great memories and I enjoy the sounds even more today.
Fantastic. This brings me back to me childhood when I would listen to my parents TJB albums for hours. This makes me miss those days but it also makes me happy. What a great band.
Saw Herb Alpert & the TJB in 1967 or 1968 at the Bradley Field House, Peoria, IL. First time I'd seen a live band. Just wish that I could remember who the opening act was. Wonder if they ever became well known.
Sweet memories - rare artist to reach No. 1 as both a vocalist (This Guy's in Love with You) and an instrumentalist (Rise). "All art is a gift of the Holy Spirit. When this light shines through the mind of a musician, it manifests itself in beautiful harmonies." ~ Baha'i Faith

ah, look at Julius at his prime and all of them, i just cry seeing this! I knew Julius and I'd never seen this before, but tear of joy for how it was. What an awesome performance!
Yesterday I added South of the Border to my album collection… One dollar $ 1.00 at the half price bookstore. Dude’s been married to Sergio Mendes lead singer for the past 44 years.
Gads - had not seen this since it aired originally. This was rare for Midnight Special that normally had lip-synced music. This was done live. Herb with or without the tjb is just amazing.
That is so NOT TRUE that the Midnight Special "normally had lip-synced music". In fact 99% of the bands who played on the show played live. That was one of Burt Sugarman's (the shows producer) requirements.
In the early days, they usually played live. As the show went on, they had more and more examples of lip synching performances, as many performers couldn't live up to their recorded music doing it live. Also, there were many 'mixed' performances where live was supported by taped recorded music (often of instruments and singers that were not present for the 'live' performance on MS). Whenever you hear a performance that is note for note EXACTLY as a record, and the performer's hands don't match what you hear being played, it's pretty obvious that there's some lets say 'not live' enhancement being done.
My mom and dad used to listen to Herb when I was real young so all these songs sound familiar. And get this..they played his music on a reel to reel tape recorder.

That Coney Island 1975 album was the bomb with Chuck Findley on 2nd trumpet. Very nostalgic remembering very clearly experimenting with Pop’s foldout cassette recorder, his Sharp cassette player. Chicago, Herb Alpert & the Beach Boys issueing forth, detaching the speakers & squeezing all of the stereo soundstage outa the poor little unit ... hahaha. 2day’s the anniversary of Pop’s passing, I’m back i/t family home settling up the estate. Found the manual 4 that player, the player itself long gone ... think Mom diced it ages ago. In 7wks time she will have passed too. In the ensuing decades I’ve collected some serious analogue audio ... all stuffed temporarily into the living room & producing considerably better stereo ... and a wider repertoire but still including those cherished Herb Alpert TJB, Sergio Mendes Brasil-66, Spyro Gyra & Flora Purim recordings. Just last week I had the Sony Walkman Pro repaired/serviced ... analogue audio bling!
The first time I heard Casino Royale ABC Was using it as background music for the Grand Prix of Monaco on Wide world of Sports! Still remember Gilles Villeneuve launching his Ferrari 512 over the the ass of I believe it was Ronny Peterson's Lotus to that song!🤣👍🎼🎵😎
Marched and shook my pom poms to 'A Taste of Honey' back in 69 or 70 in local prune parade of El Monte, Ca. Julius Wecter of TJB coached me through a mind blowingly difficult time in my life. Then later, after his death, his example and music pulled me out of a deep depression. Thanks Julius, love you forever and I know your are in Gods good rest now! Love you forever!
This is awesome! In the late 60's my father brought the music of Herb Albert and the TJB Band in our home , playing in the new Aiwa recorder in those days! I was blown away when I heard them , cause it was The Beatles I was hooked into. Thank you Herb Albert for your great music!
It was cool to find this video! What a treat to hear that medley! Those guys were awesome! This Guy's in Love With You is one of my favorites of theirs. 😍Thanks for posting!
Glad you liked it! Yeah, seeing the entire show would be nice... BTW, I enjoyed "Whistle Song" and the live performance of "America" on the Andy Williams Show.
I'll always watch a Midnight Special clip, because they may not have had the most cohesive show lineups, but it was always LIVE! Same with Rock Concert.
Back again - Herb plays with such relative ease that you’d almost think he was lip sinking (no pun intended). Great technique and solid embouchure. I’d like to also mention Bob Edmondson on trombone. Before hooking up with the TJB in the 60s, he had played with Perez Prado and Harry James in the 50s and then time with the bands of Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Shelly Manne, Terry Gibbs, and Gerald Wilson. Born in 1935, Bob passed away near the end of May, 2021.
-- Great songs. -- Great performance. -- Video not stretched (aspect ratio maintained) -- Excellent! -- Audio not edited -- songs not replaced with studio versions -- Excellent! -- Camera work very good (not great). We got to watch the band, without the camera constantly changing positions -- but it was not always focused on where it should be. Most other postings insert some unrelated scene of people frolicking in the park, or some people dancing to who-knows-what, when the viewers want to see the band. This posting is about as good as I have ever seen, because most other postings mess with the original footage and original audio, killing the "you are there" realism. BuckieBear so nice to see your comment, i had my younger brother and sister with me, we didn't stay for james brown. one time i seen bob hope there to. a great state fair with as you say great performersthank you buckiebear:)
You couldn't listen to Rock music on the radio in the 70s and not hear the voice of Wolfman Jack. Herb was a great Trumpatear. There were several great ones, especially in the 70s and 80s. To name 3 were Doc Severinsen (who eventually became Carson's right hand man....who was very underrated), Herb Alpert (a shear genius) and my all time favourite, Maynard Ferguson. I was able to see Maynard while in College, during our Green Country Jazz Festival in 82 and, was also treated to hearing Buddy Rich on the drums!!
The cover photo on Whipped Cream and other Delights changed this young boys life. Suffice it to say I spent a lot of quality time alone with that record jacket.
This is the music that was played in our home when I was a child. Now I'm 60 years old and it still brings me great joy.
Born in 63… same thing. Raised on this! I’ll forever be grateful that my parents loved this music!
Born in 64. Ditto. I was raised on Herb Alpert, Bert Kaempfert, rock n roll, big band, dixieland and country. Love em all!
Born in 62. Same for me. Wealth of music.

Too true. A lot of people don’t realize how instrumental he was and is to the beauty of modern music.

J-E-A-L-O-U-S!
@@sprky44 Love Herb Alpert, but wow, you saw Bob Hope! Both are awesome.
Inolvidables songs of Herb Alpert
You couldn't listen to Rock music on the radio in the 70s and not hear the voice of Wolfman Jack. Herb was a great Trumpatear. There were several great ones, especially in the 70s and 80s. To name 3 were Doc Severinsen (who eventually became Carson's right hand man....who was very underrated), Herb Alpert (a shear genius) and my all time favourite, Maynard Ferguson. I was able to see Maynard while in College, during our Green Country Jazz Festival in 82 and, was also treated to hearing Buddy Rich on the drums!!
Neat.
The cover photo on Whipped Cream and other Delights changed this young boys life. Suffice it to say I spent a lot of quality time alone with that record jacket.
The Christmas Album wasn’t bad either. 😂
El momento amerita y recordaré siempre ,aquellos, tiempos k tienen muchos recuerdos,si!
Nobody plays Zorba the Greek better than Herb Alpert. (last song on this video)
