Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass was the band that inspired me as a Pennsylvania farm boy to become a musician. Up to that point there were no musicians in my family. I have since played music through Europe, the eastern and western United States. Thank you Herb Alpert and your band members for your inspiration. I am very grateful.
Great for you. I started playing the trumpet in the 5th grade, maybe 4 years before the T.J.B. surfaced. But when I heard his style, he and Hugh Masekela have inspired me to continue playing to my current young age of 74..
I think he’s one of the coolest musicians out there. Although I normally play guitar and sing professionally, I love playing all of his songs on my trumpet. I’ve listened to him since the ‘60’s and just saw him perform in 2023. He’s still the coolest. 😊
Ah the childhood memories come rushing back , even though I am in my 60's. My mother loved Herb Alpert and TJ Brass. She played his albums all the time when I was a kid. I still play their music and think of her and the long-ago, care-free days of just sitting and listening to such great music. Miss you mom!
What a lovely story and sentiment. Same goes here, this music was the soundtrack to all my parents parties back in the 60's & 70's. Man, they knew how to have FUN!

Before my time but I love how effortlessly he plays. He may not hit the killer high notes like Louis Armstrong or Maynard Ferguson but his smooth playing is remarkable and the catchyness of his tunes without words is phenomenal. My favorite is Taste of Honey.
Just yesterday I was playing my "Whipped Cream And Other Delights" LP. How can we listen to this music and not get a big smile on our face? I miss music the way we had it back in the '60s in the U.S. Our local AM stations would play a great mix of artists, from Herb Alpert and Frank Sinatra to The Beatles and The Beach Boys.
As a young boy how could that album cover not put a smile on a young mana face. Whoever was in the marketing department knew that cover would sell albums and let the music do the rest
@@blackisback74 Oh yeah, and I often thought how awesome it would be to lick off that whipped cream, until I found out it was really shaving cream, lol.
That's so true. AM Top 40 radio included everything. In 1969, first year I started listening to the radio, the Top 40 had Pop music, of course, and variations of Rock n Roll (hard Rock, acid Rock), jazz groups like Blood Sweat and Tears, Motown, of course, a little bit of Country (Johnny Cash, Roy Clark), bubble gum (the Archies, the Cuff Links), a little Gospel (the Edwin Hawkins Singers), even a little reggae (Desmond Dekker), and, yes, there were still the big sellers like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones; vocal music by singers like Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones, and Bobby Vinton; and a few instrumentals, like "Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet." Great groups like the Doors, The Guess Who, 3 Dog Night, Credence Clearwater Revival, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Cream, The Bob Seger System. Yes. AM Top 40 offered all of that. A complete musical education.
Im 62 and grew up next door in Wellesley Massachusetts and this music for me as well brings back a flood of happy childhood memories. Truly timeless music!!!!👍👏👏👏👏👏☺️
Worcester, Mass. 63. My parents had the Whipped Cream album with the girl on the front covered in whipped cream. Grew up listening to his music and still love it today.
The timeless Latin jazz sounds of the sixties you never get sick of listening to, they just bring back the fun time simple sixties era all over again, love the dresses and hairstyles, looks and dancing movements to.
I graduated from the Academy in 1967. I was in love with Herb Alpert, and his unique sound!! And so was my mother!! We bought his records, and watched him on T.V. I still play and very much enjoy his music! VIVE HERB ALPERT!!
Talk about a true upbeat band this was it. Thy had the audience on their feet clapping. Great music, great entertainers and front page billing here ever they went to perform. Good memories too!
I was very fortunate to work at A&M Records and interacted with Herb Alpert who was amazing. I remember hearing The Lonely Bull and all his hits in the 60's when they first came out. So iconic and ageless!❤
There is a really great documentary about Herb, that goes well beyond the TJB. What he created at A&M records with his partner; as an artist; and as a philanthropist bringing music into the lives of people. I highly recommend it, I think Freevee has it.
What a helluva artist! Never putting any one or type of music down A true gentleman and music officiato. Grew up playing trumpet, my idol. The most effort less style. I to this day have every album the group put out, and cherish them all Play on!!
Man, I played the hell out of my trumpet with Herb Albert records when I was a kid back in the 70's. Now I'm gonna have to go dig my old Bach Stradivarius Trumpet out of my closet and see if I can still do it.
Me too! Played them all for practice. Performed the solo in This Guy..." with our HS jazz band at a band festival (on my trumpet, certainly not singing)...
A was a HS trumpet player in the mid sixties and this was THE group all the band kids loved. Another trumpet player and I started our own group with the same instrumentation and played almost all of the TJB's popular tunes as they were published as full arrangements.
I was 8 years old in 1967. I wanted to play the trumpet because I fell in love with the sound of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass! I played all the way from the 5th grade through the collegiate level. The moment you here the first few bars, you know it's Herb Alpert. I loved the 60's. Wouldn't trade crowing up then for anything. I finally got to see my musical hero in 2013 with his tour with his wife Lani Hall. Worth every dollar...I think it was $50.00.
My grandmother really enjoyed Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. She passed away last month November at the age of 79. Had many of their records RIP grandma
I love the music, but I also love how ridiculously savvy Herb was about branding and promotion. He just knew how to do it right! In the liner notes to the first TJB LP, it says something like, "Word is getting out that Herb is something special. Some folks say he could make it big in the movies." Totally amazing, because the release is on his own record label, and he probably wrote liner notes himself! :) But, I wish he HAD made it big in the movies!
When his music came out he was on top of the rock and roll charts. The music that came out in 1967, 68 and 69 that was on top of the charts is not the music that people nowadays think it is. The definition of rock is what? The music that sold . He should be in there but everything is so political and who makes the decisions?
14:4014:4014:40 I think the lonely bull is the best tune of all time. When I hear it, it puts me back in the best years of music. Thank you so much herb
I was in my late teens back then. Herb and his Tijuana Brass had a no. 1 hit in the charts - *A Taste Of Honey*. Everywhere you went you'd hear it on radio. I learned later that Herb didn't really consider himself a great trumpet player - but I think he was selling himself short; he got a great sound out of that thing, and his playing was rhythmic and tight, sort of light-jazzy and band was top notch. And he was such a good looking dude the girls all swooned over him.
His tone is good, his phrasing is good, and he has a way with a melody. Those count. No, he really doesn't compare with Malcolm McNab (lead trumpet on a thousand Hollywood scores), but nobody compares with Malcolm McNab.
I was introduced to Herb Alpert's music by my dad, and as a result have some of his music on vinyl. There is one album "The Beat of the Brass" which features "This Guys in Love With You" on it, and all I can say is, that for an album that is now 50+ years old, the quality is absolutely outstanding, both in the music, and the recording. My dad would have enjoyed watching this vid.

An 8-track of Herb Alpert and the Tujuana Brass was the first one I owned. Spanish Flea is the one song I remember being on it. Blessed to hear this again!
Brilliant! The TJB were always the $#!T when it came to music - no matter what your taste, you couldn’t help but feel happy upon hearing anything by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Let’s face it, Herb was the James Bond of music. As a five year old I realized this - women wanted him and men wanted to be him. Everything about him was cool and controlled. The finger pops, head bobs, the total control of the band and the sheer ease of his playing style made it clear that he was the man. No wonder that he became the music mogul that he was with A & M Records and with a personal net worth of close to a billion dollars. I’ve seen many of the greats in concert from so many musical genres - I do regret not seeing Herb (would have killed to see him perform with the TJB).
Herbs music is so touching I often cry with the joy it has given me over the years. He's 89 and I'm 80! Still playing his music to enjoy❤🎉 would love to go to his concert if he ever gets to South Carolina or 3 hrs I can travel with out flying. On my bucketlist😊😊
As a young man, I really liked the sexy cover of the album "Whipped Cream." Later on in life, when I started a career in photography, I learned the album cover photographer used SHAVING CREAM because whipped cream would have melted too quickly under the heat of studio lights (and the body heat of the "hot" model).

My grandma introduced me to Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass..back in the mid 70's. Have been listening since then....timeless music.Thank you for posting.
The TJB was part of our family car's 8-Track playlist on many summer vacation trips. Along with Tom Jones, Beach Boys, Al Martino, and others. Great memories associated with the sound of the TJB.
Herb Alpert And The Tijuana Brass were one of the best bands of the 1960's and early 1970's,and I still enjoy their music even today;the BBC special was great!
My introduction to Herb Alpert was "Lonely Bull " - and I remember seeing this programme back then. If my memory serves, they did several "Christmas specials". Wonderful stuff & timeless
My mother bought The Lonely Bull album which was released in 1962. I was 10 years old then and I remember really enjoying this music and Herb Albert's trumpet playing
I won't say how old I am, but I was 20 when this concert happened. LOL I must have 5 or 6 of their old 33 1/3 records. They were a great group, and this brings back lots of memories. The TJB were huge back then.
Marvellous magnificent magical...summer day's,my childhood, the world seemed so much more wonderful then, thank you so much for sharing this!!🌟🌟🌟☀️☀️☀️✨️✨️✨️🌠🌠🌠
This one started it all for the great Herb Alpert .... AND even though he's not a great singer, I have no interest whatsoever in hearing any other artist perform "This Guy's in Love With You". I also understand that he paved the way for several young groups to reach their dreams in the world of Rock & Roll .... I salute you, SIR !
One of mum's favourite musicians back then so as a 14 year old I too liked his music even though I was fast getting into modern pop. It's Sept 23 and Herb is listed as being 88, keep going Herb, you're a legend!
I remember seeing them at the Hollywood Bowl around 1958... My mom took me. There were a lot of stars...Bobby Daren, Jan and Dean, and more. Great night.
Herb Albert is the Man!! I got to see him in concert here in KC three years ago, and I got my tickets to see him and Mrs Lani hall here again next month. I'm sure looking forward to it!
I remember when my baton group did a routine to Herb Alpert & TJB's "Taste of Honey" - it was then and still is now incredible music, along with so many of their other tunes! We were so lucky to have grown up with their music! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Beautiful man, and great sounds! And yes, they are not really playing -- they are synching to the pre-recorded album tracks (you can tell because they're EXACTLY the album tracks!). But that was very typical in those days. They had to really practice to look like they were playing. Ha ha - those dancing girls though... what a slice of the '60s this is!
Ganieda Moher I agree wholeheartedly with you. The lip synching was pretty unavoidable in those days but that makes it a slice of the Sixties too. You would have thought they might have one of the girls pretend to sing the wordless female vocal in the song. They could have faded out the crowd's "Oles" at the end. But it's still wonderful.
A Great Band. They were very popular in the 60's and they deserved it.. When I was at Fort Knox, Ky. in 1966 an Army band would play ".Tijuana Taxi ". Remember that one? It's nice to learn that they're still active.

An 8-track of Herb Alpert and the Tujuana Brass was the first one I owned. Spanish Flea is the one song I remember being on it. Blessed to hear this again!
Amen ! My favorite song of all time. I can still remember how to play it my trumpet 57 years ago !
So TRUE!
"The JAMES BOND of Music"!!!
I was fortunate enough to see him in 65-66 and the front band was Baja marimba band. It was a great show.
This is not a live performance. They are faking to a pre recorded tracks

Essa época era o maior sucesso dessa banda, parabéns.
This video brought back a lot of great memories of that time!
La música no tiene fronteras la música alimenta la mente y el alma
Herb Alpert was the reason I played trumpet in junior and senior high. Still love his music to this day.
2024….and still looove listening to this marvelous trumpeter with his wonderful repertoire that celebrates life. Thank you Herb! 🌹💝🙏
As a young man, I really liked the sexy cover of the album "Whipped Cream."
Later on in life, when I started a career in photography, I learned the album cover photographer used SHAVING CREAM because whipped cream would have melted too quickly under the heat of studio lights (and the body heat of the "hot" model).
I grew up listening to mom and dad play this music and watching them dance to it! Their music is still as alive as I remember!
WUUAOOOO!!!...
Im 76 now and when I finished work lunchtime on Christmas Eve walked up Kings Road in 1966 to buy his LP. What has happened to the music thes days
É um músico extraordinário. Parabéns you tube por essas relíquias
Herb Alpert was one of the very best bands of the 60's .he had one of the most distinct sounds .
l remember this tune and the band for sure.....awesome

Floydd That’s so correct.
There is a certain Magic at play here,

I just bought a new record player I have one of his lps playing a few minutes ago.
Herb is a national treasure. I have had his music in my car, iPod and I Phone since the 60's
music that will always lift your spirits
Herb Alpert: amazing, classy trumpet player & performer. The best of the 60s and beyond!
LOVE this! My parents introduced me to the TJB's music when I was a toddler, and to this day I continue to enjoy that sound.
ecavuto me too...I always heard this music in my hear. thanks to the internet I was able to recall #Whipped cream" and my dreams became alive again.

Herb and his commercial style of Latin jazz was arguably the Kenny G of the 60s. Although I'm happier still listening to Herb nearly 60 years later.
raw beautiful music love the horns! thanks for sharing
A FLOOD of Childhood Memories growing up in SoCal when DAD played his TJB open-reel Recording practically EVERY WEEKEND.......!!!!!!!!
*Waking up in the early morning to this on the radio, awww, such sweet memories, Lonely Bull and Taste of Honey, oh yeah...*
Herb Alpert was soooo cute!
Yeah, thanks for saying so. Thanks, I had a huge crush; still do.
I remember these songs as a child because their performances were all on local television!

💯
I brushed "around" twice in Acapulco one Xmas holiday. We just looked curiously at each other. That was enough. How music's timeless.
Um craque no trompete. Herb Alpert é... 10 !
It's a musical special with no music being played! 😅
A Great Band. They were very popular in the 60's and they deserved it..
When I was at Fort Knox, Ky. in 1966 an Army band would play ".Tijuana Taxi ". Remember that one?
It's nice to learn that they're still active.
Love Love this brings back.memories when I was in the 7th Grade
