One of only a few real friends is his boatswain Oliver. Now, after a long voyage, they both arrive back in Hamburg earlier than expected. Markus Jolly would like to surprise his wife and does not report back immediately. When he arrives home, he finds his wife in bed with someone else. He wants to leave her immediately. When he leaves the apartment, his wife runs after him. But he pushes her away, and she stumbles and breaks through the ramshackle stair railing and falls. She remains dead in the downstairs hallway.
