This is a great movie, and it was made without the aid of computers and such. It was made when actors and directors had morals and cared what they were putting before their audiences. They had to work harder to produce such outstanding movies.

Mitchum was always a very believable leading Male Role, and he was a sparkler in so many films. Susan Hayworth was pretty much Hollywood Rovalty, and a great actress, and she is great in this feature. I think Robert Mitchum is perfect for this, as he was for Heaven Knows, Mr Allison. My favorite film he was ever in. Now this one joins my list of great Movies I never knew about. Thanks to whomever posted it. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie until the audio stopped working at around 56 minutes.

The musical instrument called the Serpent, of early European origin...a wind instrument...was used in the soundtrack of this film and also to great effect in the 1959 James Mason version of Journey to the Center of the Earth.
"Leo Carrillo State Beach - 35000 W. Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, California, USA" was established and to date has been featured as background in almost 80 movies, including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959)- where they emerge from the caverns unto an underground sea- and them big man eatin' lizards.
I've held the director's working script to this movie in my hands. This script and many other Henry Hathaway working annotated script's are at The AFI American Film Institute, in the Cecil B DeMille library in Hollywood
I had thought this might have been a remake of African Queen, having been produced just two years after that great movie. I was wrong. It's a fine story on it's own and well produced. Mitchum and Hayward hold their own compared to Bogart and Hepburn. They just don't make them like these two films anymore.
The movie is so good until audio stopped working 45 minutes into the movie. I tried on my phone & 2 tablet s movie has no sound after 45 minutes. PISSED OFF ❗️💯❗️

Better than its pulp fiction title. Beautiful African music, talking drums, locals, language, and locales. Sound missing in several places. Mitchum's character and tone of movie mostly respectful. Not entirely free of colonialist snark, mostly from the mouth of Hayward, though the plot twist reveals the reason.
YT you can stuff these old films with as many adverts as you want but do you think anyone will buy or use the services? You are just peeing people off by putting so many into one film and I can guarantee each advert will be quickly skipped and I will never use whatever is being sold. Just so that you know you are wasting your time and I will boycott all the adverts you put in.
It's enjoyable to be able to re-catchup on these films. When they were Directed well, and the storylines were well scripted. Recall others around this period, Daktari and one with Stewart Grainger as well. Along the same embodiment of work. Now a days, Mr. Douglas (Mitchum), would be some actor whos' biceps would be ripping his short sleeves and with some kind of superpower. (Ohara) would be over dressed to the hilt but showing all the right other stuff. As well as the canoes, not really canoes at all but some hyper boat equipped with all the AI laser tech. Right down to the AI Monkeys doing more than swinging from trees. And of course, the subject matter itself wouldn't be an ethical one at all. Just a lot of hero that doesn't really need to save the Nurse. Because she herself is a hero also. There is a lot to say for movies such as this on against the gobbledy goop being produced today

Great film ruined by posting a unwatchable copy! Pointless having gaps in the sound.. how are you able to follow along with the story plot. Looked like a film I could of thoroughly enjoyed ☹️

You would never get me on that bridge. I would grow wings sooner than you'd get me on a modern made highly engineered bridge like that. I was born with a fear of edges. Cliff-type edges, platform edges. More a visceral fear of going over the edge. Somehow, I was born with it. I think I went over an edge in a former life.
You missed a great movie. I know the cages are offensive, but that was only way they knew back then to fill American zoos or zoos in other country. Zoos help educate people on what typical environments are like for animals and at same time show what life in captivity is like and how to show respect for the animals.
Learn to go past your fears and prejudices. The movie plot takes place in an era where this was common practice. Please don't judge yesterday by today's standards.

Roberts was one of Hollywood's greatest actor when he was only half awake. Imagine if he had been fully awake.
This used to come on Sunday mornings and I watched it every time. Then gone. Glad it's here.

So, she’s so exhausted that she falls asleep sitting up. He wakes her and a few seconds later tells her she better get some rest. Pure genius!
Same same thing happens in the hospital you sound asleep the nurse comes in to give you sleeping pills. It’s just the way the world works.

Enjoyed the film, and at least the producers tried their best to make the African side of the story look authentic, better than the Tarzan films!
The Tarzan movies looked great to me when I was 10 or so years old.

Seemed a good film until 56.35 when the sound disappeared and continued on and off for the rest of the film. Bloody annoying!
