Adding a Wastegated Housing to S410SX CAT Turbo

- Did 3 of these this week so I figured I should share! In this video, we take a non gated S410SX turbocharger (14969880000) for a Caterpillar C15 and we swap a wastegated exhaust housing on. To complete the job, we tap the compressor cover for a vacuum/boost source to operate the waste gate.
This process can virtually be done in reverse to take wastegated S410SX and turn it into a non castigated S410SX.
Whenever you are swapping exhaust housings, make sure they are compatible with the specific size exhaust wheel you have.
As always, we sell all the parts show here!

That wastegate housing is HUGE! What's the reason/benefits of going to such a large wastegated housing from a smaller non-wastegate housing? Maybe from a 1.58 to the 1.65 isn't necessarily bad. But, that seems like a big jump from the other sizes.
A 1.65 is too big, for most guys. No real reason it needs a wastegate, in most applications. A 14.6 can't make enough drive pressure, cruisng. EGTs sit at about 900*, post turbo. Let's the engine breathe awesome, though.
to your knowledge is there a wastegated housing for a 83mm turbine s400?
Hi, can i ask where you bought that turbine housing? I am looking for one.

Is there a benefit of a waste gated turbo vs a non waste gate?
yes
A wasregate lets a turbo spool sooner at the low end, and opens and can breathe easier on the top end. Also helps prevent overspool/excessive wheel speed. Too much, and you can snap the shaft.
@Bigstretch100 good to know, thank you.
