    Learned about Wall o waters from your channel last year and they are absolutely amazing! This year I planted 20 tomatoes I started from seed between April 1st -12th. It lightly snowed twice after all of these were planted.
    All of these tomatoes are already huge for early May! And the fact they harden off in the wall of waters is awesome! Saves a huge amount of time
    I will be removing the covers tomorrow as our forecast now shows nights consistently above 40+
    Going to try taking some of those covers and put them over some bean & squash plants I started a bit early as an experiment to see if I could put these out a few weeks earlier. Leaving these covers on until nights get to 55+ in a few weeks. If it fails, I've got more transplants that can go in so we'll see how it goes

      I love them to. My only advice would be to leave them in until you nights hit 50+. Tomatoes don't love the 40s

    I scattered some lettuce seeds last fall and they survived my zone 6 winter as tiny seedlings and I just harvested some this week. Really mild and tasty. I’ll be doing that again!

    For herbs I have oregano, thyme, comfrey, Seascape Strawberries, and spearmint established. I have parsley, peppermint, yarrow, catnip, and chicory sprouts. I have Elephant Garlic, grocery store mystery garlic, White Creole onions, Red Beard bunching onions, snow peas, shelling peas, kohlrabi, carrots, potatoes, Giant Red Mustard,, Southern Curley Mustard, Fordhook Swiss Chard, golden beets, and radish growing. Tomorrow, I'll start transplanting tomatoes, basil, assorted peppers, zucchini, crookneck squash, Lemon Squash, cucumbers, Hearts of Gold cantaloupe, Sugar Baby Watermelon, and ground cherries. I'll also sow seeds for parsnips, marjoram, dill, Red Noodle Beans, and spore for Wine Cap mushrooms. For pollinators, I am growing zinnias, straw flower, cosmos, marigolds, and bachelor button. I also have a small orchard with a Honeycrisp apple tree, Fuji apple, AU Rosa plum, Yellow/Gold plum, Stella cherry, Lapins cherry, and North Star cherry tree. My backyard garden has 14 raised beds, 3 GreenStalk Towers (Twin Towers of Pepper), a 10x20 foot inground herb garden, 18 ten gallon growbags, and an 8Lx4Wx 7H trellis tunnel. It keeps me busy year-round. Sylacauga, AL zone 7B

    I am zone 5a and am still covered in snow and just had another another snow storm on Thursday. My last frost date here in Maine is May 10th and it is so not reliable. I have lost crops in June due to frost. I think for me a greenhouse might be the way to go I just really love outdoor gardening. I have found July, August and September, September being the warmest, are my best vegetable growing months. I am so getting cabin fever!

      We have snow in the forecast again tonight too. Remember that cool season crops can handle the frost and cold of this time of year, even outside.

      I’m also in Maine zone 5b last frost date May 1. We got at least a foot of snow yesterday and it’s going to get up to 60 degrees by Monday! I usually plant my cool weather plants around the 15th of April. I was going to prepare my beds this weekend and plant next weekend. Looks like I’ll be doing it all next week

      @@deej5932 For me, this week is going to be in the 40's today will be more snow. I tried winter sowing for the first time and am not hopeful. When do you start your tomatoes and peppers? I have to say, this year I am retired so I will spend more time gardening but again, I have never been real successful due to such a short warm season.

    Last frost date (May 18, here) is one consideration but, although your garden looks dry enough to plant, I would be mudding in anything you suggest I could be planting in our garden. Your 6b Spring weather is much different than our 6b Spring weather.🤷‍♂️
    I was/am hoping to add another couple of raised beds for onions and leafy greens but even my source for bulk soil mixtures hasn’t even been able to mix their soil because it’s been too wet.🤷‍♂️

    Can you do all of this early planting if you are using raised garden beds? I am using veg trugs off of the ground due to the ease of use and the covers that I purchased. I have a severe back injury from when I served in the military. My gardens have been great, but I have never done early planting. I am in Southern Alberta, Canada, and I believe zone 4a. Thank you so much!! 😊

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  3 месяца назад +1

      You'd be surprised at how hardy plants can be. You will have a bit harder time if your beds are up off the ground, but if you have covers you should be able to get some cool season crops started about 4 to 6 weeks before your last frost.

    Brassicas…can I direct seed now (zobe5b)?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  3 месяца назад +1

      No, it will take them too long to mature and it will be in the middle of summer. For those of us in colder climates it's always best to do brassicas by transaplant.
