- 19 Vegetables You Can Plant in August for Fall and Winter Harvest
Hey gang! Here’s your monthly planting guide. Today I’m including the 19 vegetables I recommend you get planted in your garden during the month of August. Everything you are going to be planting this month will be for both fall and winter harvest! Most of these seeds should be direct sown in your garden 6 to 8 weeks before your first frost. If you don’t have space in your garden now then you could plant them indoors in your seed starting set up and then transplant them out when the weather cools.

Would you mind thinking about doing a video on storing your seeds and seed saving?
If you go to our website we have a couple of articles on those topics. Also I do sell a course that teaches seed savings.
Thank you for sharing these vegetables to plant in August.
My pleasure
No one ever told me that squash/pumpkin flowers are the most lovely fragrance!
Thank you!
Your yard/garden looks beautiful behind you in your video! Very enjoyable & great information always!
Thank you so much!
Thank you Rick. Always very informative and helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Another awesome video thanks Rick!
You are welcome!
I cant believe how well the burlap works in the hot temps. It beats cardboard or other materials that I have tried to use to get my fine seeds to germinate.
Yep it really does work well!!
I Am hoping to get 3 harvests this year, good ol northern tip of central Texas lol
Good luck!
We got our garden in early July. Seedlings were grown since April and May. Tomatoes are small but they are there. Strange growing season. Lost some so we just keep putting seedlings out. We always plant extra just in case.
Hello,I did the same thing. I'm in zone 7 and everything is late except Kale, squash and string beans. My Tomato plants are full of a variety of tomatoes but they are not turning red. I thought I was seeding early so I could enjoy more of an harvest during the summer.🤷
Our season has been strange too!
Thanks for sharing.....I have a question--- Is there anything at all to plant in zone 8b for August?????????????????????????? THANKS
I’ve started most of these in trays…hoping for a better fall season than summer. The pests have been out of control. Have you ever tried celtuce? I grew it in spring and only got a couple useable stems. Interesting plant. Basically a lettuce that’s grown for the stem.
I haven't every grown celtuce. I really need to get an experiment section added to my garden where I can try plants like that!
@@StoneyAcresGardening That would be fun, both for you and for viewers ☺️

Great info as always! I'm growing in my high tunnel for the first time and was wondering should I add 15 days to these suggested planting dates?
No, these dates already include the extra time you will need for the fading sunlight in the fall.
@@StoneyAcresGardening thanks so much!!
I live in IL. What zone am I? Also, when is the best time to harvest yellow crooked neck squash? Mine are HUGE? Did I wait too long?
You will have to look up your zone on the USDA website. Crook neck squash are the tastiest when they are small in my opinion.
I did get them but no muish? Spelling
Mache also called Corn Salad
@@StoneyAcresGardening ok so I buy corn salad and I will be all set
🧐 I'm trying to figure out why I can't hear anything
Boy I'm not sure. I just double checked and it is working on my end. And I haven't had any other complaints.
Audio fine here...... 👃✌️🥰🇨🇦
I can hear him just fine.
Nevermind 🤣. The kids unplugged the speaker. So sorry for any confusion
