My brother wanted a very warm quilt so I used 80/20 cotton with wool on top. He said it keeps him very warm.

And, thanks for the reassurance that the wool will hold up to washing and regular use!

This was one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. Thank you. I would love to see more quilting on your sit down machine. Love the simplicity and yet challenging quilting.

Thank you for this video Nancy! I have been quilting and was wondering about the different kinds of batting. I found one at quilt con last year that is not so lofty and I love it because I am still learning the quilting part and it makes it a little easier for the free motion, but the lofty stuff looks so pretty if I can keep from messing it up!

I missed you live🤦🏻‍♀️. Glad to catch you on the replay though.
I use Quilters Dream wool batting. I love the definition I get with my custom quilting. I quilt on a longarm. Most of my quilts leave with a recipient. I do have a quilt I made a few years ago. It’s heavily used and washed. It was actually the first quilt I ever quilted on my longarm. So it’s about 5 years old. I used wool for the first time in that quilt as well. I now get little balls of wool collections on the back of the quilt as I launder my bedding the same as Bill. What I learned recently is that static that builds up in the dryer is what causes some of that bearding. I think I might try getting those wool balls for the dryer and see if they help at all. I would second your caution to dry your quilts until they are mostly dry and allow them to complete the drying at room temp.
Thanks for sharing Nancy! It’s always a pleasure to catch you here on RUclips.

I LOVE wool batting with flannel,it makes the quilt very warm and soft and cozy. I’m pretty much a beginner and it does make it fairly heavy and bulky to push around on my domestic machine for the actual quilting, but it’s worth it! I’m finishing up my second one and have the top almost pieced for a third😊.

I have an unprocessed wool batting for quilts that I’m hesitant to use until I get more information . Do. You suggest that I wet it and shrink it before I try to use in a quilt ? Any inf would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much fir this video.❤

Stop there!! Don't use an unprocessed wool, it will shrink up like bad. I had a students try it once and I was shocked so I don't remember you use that as a batting for your quilt if you think there is any chance it will ever be washed.

Thank you so much for this, Nancy! I just bought a roll of Quilters Dream wool batting but haven’t used it yet. I have a preprinted twin sized whole cloth quilt that I want to make for my niece. Would the wool batting be good to use, or should I use a high loft polyester? I would be quilting it on my domestic Juki.

How is wool batting processed commercialy? I have a lot of wool batting that was cleaned , carded and made into batting by the Frankinmuth Mill that I want to use. I made a baby quilt with it and my daughter shrunk it badly. Can I pre shrink it somehow?

I’m honestly not sure the process, but I do know that there is chemicals involved in the cleaning of it and they pull it apart and put it back together in some magic way. I have been using Hobbs and quilters stream wolf for a long time, and they don’t shrink but a little bit and you are correct I’ve seen natural wool batting that have shrunk the quilt to unusability.😢
