I agree, the 1950’s was an amazing decade for the automobile in North America. I believe that was in part fuelled and defined by a huge sense of optimism that is reflected in the beautiful styling and the use of so many vibrant colours inside and out.
This is also the basic shell for the Plymouth and Dodges and DeSotos of this time.

In the 1961 movie, The Misfits you can see Marilyn Monroe driving a 57 New Yorker wagon outside of Reno Nevada.

Beautiful car! Love that you explain how the rear seat works. Interesting how each manufacturer has a different take on how they should work. Some of the mini-van era were similar, not in design but in the different way each company went about it. Really love the door handles as well as the Ramblers. Even Ford got into the act, but way later and a little different take, i.e. the Lincoln Town Car of the 80's and a half-assed attempt on the Ford and Mercury. It is said that spot lights were also used in dark neighborhoods to look at house numbers either on the house or on the curb. Back then I don't think people thought about road rage. People were not as amped up as they are now. At least it was really rare. A lot less traffic helped. I learned a couple of things today. One was the way Chrysler designed the dog leg upon entry to the car. Better designed with a little less of the windshield curvature than Ford & Gm. Surprised at how heavy these were. But, todays Suburban, well it's more. Sorry I go on and on. Thanks for the vid.

Need to move the front seat forward so the bottom of the second seat can flip all the way over. Those handles become legs that hold it up. That way the floor is flat all the way to the back of the front seat.
Interesting that this Windsor wagon has New Yorker style Chrome strips on the side. There should be an accent paint color between the two strips.

As a kid in the sixties, we had a ‘56 Chrysler Windsor wagon. It was very different from this and looked shorter, but somehow backseat legroom I recall as far larger. This ‘57 looks cramped in the backseat. A bit surprised.
By the way, our ‘56 had a record player. 45rpm only.

The spotlights were for when we were kids and our parents used to drive us down to the dump at night. Everybody would sit there quietly waiting for the bears to come in and eat. When they did everybody would turn on their spotlights. Then we would all go. Ooh, look at the Bears. The bears would go. Ooh, look at the stupid humans. We Bears wish that one night they would just leave us alone and let us rummage and eat this garbage in peace.

I'm sure the keys are aftermarket. I recall first seeing these in the '90's. There were earlier versions in the '80's but not as well done. These are very nicely done keys
For years Chrysler Keys had the Chrysler star embossed on them. I remember that Chrysler keys stood out in a way because they were aluminum, as the other makes used brass keys coated in a type of chrome.

not factory keys. recent keys. think they came from Jessep key ? not factory spot lite. probably not factory ac
Vornado brand aftermarket add on AC.
Those fancy keys were available for years, they were made for all different marques and we're available at just about any store that cut keys.
The key fobs were sold right along side of them.
That under dash Tornado A/C is aftermarket, but period correct.

What, only point out door handles outside and inside on 2 doors? I wanna see all 4 "getting-out-handles"!

OK, I'll say it: your videos today are much better! I was surprised by a few things about that Chrysler. First, I did not know that you pushed the neutral button to start it. Cool! Second, that A/C sure looks like a factory unit- that compressor was used by Chrysler for years (and weighs almost as much as the engine). Back then, under dash units were common. Third, I was surprised to not see a Hemi under the hood. Fourth, I didn't know that you owned a pair of long pants lol!

This was the second Classic Car I think I shot for the channel or very close to it. I remember reaching out and asking them if I could come up and do that.. thank you so much for bringing back those memories I wasn’t even sure how to do the channel at that point it eventually got to a point where I wanted it to be all done and first person like you were the one looking at the car.
I have long pants but I found that if you’re getting in and out of cars it’s easier to do it in shorts. That’s why I wear the shorts. I have more than gray as a color shirt but I wear gray because it doesn’t reflect off the gauges if I wear pink or teal, it shows up in the gauges And it’s a bit distracting
I have one picky comment, '57 Chrysler non-wagons did not have the gas filler behind the taillight. That was a GM thing. The gas filler was behind a trap door on the driver's side rear fender.

Other than the back seat this car is in museum quality shape, the back seat could be taken to an upholster's shop if this museum doesn't have upholster's on staff.

The keys are not original!
I love this car's great style and conveniences except for the mirrors. Either on the doors or closer to the doors on the fender so as to be adjustable from the interior. I want clear visibility from the rearview but mounted on the dash not my favorite. another good video.

That’s awesome. How do you like it? Those are such stellar wagons that are very rarely seen anymore if ever they’re like seeing a unicorn when you do see one.
Ironically...the new tires are supposed to be delivered to us today. Have only driven it up and down cul de sacs near us thus far. Runs good and gets big reactions from people! Bought it from our neighbor 2 doors down who had it parked in his garage for 20 years. I had been eyeballing it every time that garage was open. Lol is there a way I can attach pictures? She is pink and has been named ' Wanda'!
Wanda is not in 'car show' shape by any means, but is a very decent car in pretty good shape. We are lucky we were able to obtain her.

@@What.its.like. No problem! 🙂 The keys have the Chrysler Lion emblem as well as the big C. Just like the one in the steering wheel.
That’s awesome keys are like album covers lost art.. I like showcasing what the keys look like because everyone did keys different. The only thing is these cars if you drove them the key cylinder would need replaced and was cheaper to get an after market one.

I love the feel of everything on older cars you were a part of the experience.. it’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t drove anything like it. My 52 Chevy truck when I put switch gears it clicks into gear.. it’s small things like that. The Lincoln I had a Unique click when I turn the turn signals on. Even the Honda van when I use the turn signals clicks I don’t like the new ones that don’t give you any sort of feedback that a button has been pushed. The sad thing is unless you experience it first hand you don’t know what your missing. I like evs but there is sort of a disconnect when driving them which is weird given the fact that you can connect with everyone you know as driving but the soul is gone. It’s hard to explain the best metaphor I’ve come up with is new cars are like appliances were old vintage are where machines.. I was talking to someone the other day if given the choice between a 2022 Bugatti Chiron or 1926 Bugatti type 35 which would you take? I’d take the type 35. I hate to admit it the exotic cars don’t do it for me. I like the weird cars the weirder the better... I’m just a regular guy and I mean if I ever “make” it in life I’d never own a Ferrari Lamborghini those aren’t my style now a packard twin six that’s more me or a 20s 30s Indy car. I like older Lamborghini Maserati some Ferraris the new ones don’t do anything for me. I posted a Bugatti Chiron on this channel and it didn’t do well so my audience doesn’t care for those cars either which makes me feel better. =)

When I wasa kid 1957 my next door neighbor had one in exactly the same colors - Love the plate - - Sky King. Although Sky King had a 56 - Nice car at first blush but there are a number of details that need to be taken care of if you wanted to bring it back. BRING BACK WAGONS!!!!!
We are huge wagon fans here trust me where I find them I ask to feature them on here =) 1959 rambler is my favorite wagon so far 60 isn’t bad either 32mpg and seats fold into a bed. I’ll have to see if I can find a sky king.

You really don’t know what you are talking about. Almost all cars today change design ever few years. And in case you don’t know it is very expensive to change design because you have put a lot of wheels in Motion. As a engineer who don’t just talk about cars but build engine and transmission for cars. Today cars are so much better than back in yester years. And whole lot safer . And I am sick of people talking about things they know nothing about. Those cars was death traps. Go look at how many people died in car accidents
Cars back then changed every year or every other year... they make way more models now then they did back than but they don’t change them every year. Look at the new beetle for example vw made that car for 13 years mostly unchanged 1998-2011 the original beetle for way longer with the only major change being the split window and power plants. Safer is a broad term no lie just found out a friend of mine died in a car accident two days ago. New car, when I say in the videos sound of quality it’s because they wasn’t made of the same plastic materials fisher price uses in childhood toys. Cars back than where built the last hence they are still around, loved the new wagoneer but image that in 70 years, hell on the forms all people are doing is saying theirs left them on the road. Brand new $80,000 vehicle leaving people stranded that’s not a good image. Never once said old cars are safer. Old cars don’t have crumble zones so they don’t crash the same every time. You act like people don’t die in new cars that we live in this perfect world with all this new innovation but can’t seem to get any better then 40 mpg in a full sized vehicle with direct injection and computers... I could be wrong is there I new full sized car that isn’t a hybrid that gets that good of mileage. The Subaru gets 32 with the 4 cylinder but has no power had one. And they become extremely costly to fix with the AWD system timing belts head gasket problems. With the older/classics parts are cheap and it really depends on what it is 350 Chevy v8 are as cheap as they come picked up my engine for $400 yes it was used dropped it in my AD Chevy picked up a transmission for $250 (that was originally on a six cylinder works great) if your keep track $650 for engine and trans. Going back to the Subaru the AWD system shit the bed at 100,000 and took the trans with it $10,000 fix at Subaru garage because no one wanted to touch that sort of job not around here.. so you tell me would you rather spend 10k on a car that’s worth $8k (this was before the major price inflation) or get something like an AD series truck and put a motor in it..not saying new cars are junk just saying once that new car smell is gone and your done paying for it warranty has long run out all you left with is fisher priced plastic pile on wheels or in the case of the Subaru just a paper weight in the shape of a Subaru Outback... not saying that doesn’t happen with old cars but I drive that big green AD Chevy Daily it’s been the most reliable vehicle I’ve owned had a vw karman Ghia never left me on the side of the road..
@@What.its.like. Agree. I would rather drive a newer car daily for some of the safety features but I am glad to see these old cars and trucks preserved for posterity. My nephew just restored my granddad's 63 IH 1000 series step side pickup with 3 on the tree which I learned to drive on and most of the family. My parents had a quad lights 57 Chrysler Windsor dark metallic blue with white sedan which in Aug of 1958 we drove from Dayton, OH to Houston, TX when we moved. That fall my father traded it in on a white 59 Plymouth Sport Suburban 9 passenger wagon with factory air. I remember there being air conditioning vents hanging from the ceiling between the rear seat and the 3rd seat. It was a cool car. Jay Leno and Rare Classic Cars has some neat old cars as well.
If I had been in an old car like this instead of a 2011 model car when I was in a car accident, I wouldn’t be alive right now. It was the airbags and seatbelts that saved my life. I was tee boned by a reckless driver who disregarded a red light when I was crossing the intersection with a green light.

Your an idiot! It is evident you don't have an appreciation for classic cars! There is alot of things that were not safe back then. These classic cars are an icon and should be appreciated. Its not about safety now. These cars that are still around are driven by collectors that appreciate them and take them to cars show and events. Speaking of safety do you know how dangerous electric cars are? When in an accident they take hours to extinguish the fire that burns close to 3,500 degrees. We live in Pussyfied society. you must be of the younger generation!
