1941 Cadillac series 62 convertible
For WYR, it’s the 1960 Cadillac, both scenarios. I did not care for the Lincolns from that period, and the ‘59 Cadillac was too over-the-top. All in all, the 1960 was a very classy luxury car that still looks good today. No wonder this one already sold. BTW was that a 1941 Buick right behind this one?
My absolutely favorite Cadillac. A neighbor had one of these in green, 4 door hardtop. Walked by it on my way to school everyday and fell in love with it.
Willis is properly pronounced like WIllie's.
Nope you've been misled Mr Willy's was Welch it's pronounced wil lis Most everyone says it wrong and get bend out of shape when people say it right sorta of like Porsche en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willys
Have a 39 Packard six, 1700, 2 door sedan. I picked up a 41 Packard 6. My Chilton manual says the 41 is rated at 105 HP while the 39 is rated at 100 HP. What was the difference and what internal mods can I make to maintain dependability but give her a little more zip. I have the factory o.d. too!!!
That's awesome I love the six cylinder packards I just shot a 39 yesterday 4 door sedan it will be posted eventually not entirely sure when lol I've heard they are great road cars handle well but without overdrive 55 mph is about it but with overdrive it can go hwy speed I wonder if the zippyness could be improved but switching the rear end ratio perhaps a two speed rear ratio
Not my favorite Caddy but it was stylish for it's time and was true to form for Cadillac. WYR goes to the Caddy but the Imperial is impressive. Then the 59; you gotta like the B-52-like twin pod turn signals in the front bumper.
Sweet choices =)
Hands down I would buy the Riv over the T bird any day! No car ever compaired with the Riveria class!
How many Allstates did they make/sell? I miss the Sears of olde, it was a place for a guy to retreat among all the Craftsman tools while wifie shopped for towels and panties. I think that the reason so many retailers and malls are dying is because there is absolutely no place with any interest to men, even the bars are too sweet. Long ago I stopped shopping for men's clothes in department stores because I don't like pink shirts.
I'm not sure how many allstates were made I miss sears as well even tho sears wasn't the epic company it was with the sears modern homes mail order catalog during my life
Metal parts on cars (sheet metal) obviously are curved and bent for style reason but even more importantly, the bends and curves impart a rigidity that flat sheet metal lacks. That's why garbage can sides are corrugated. My uncle was into Kaisers and even had one of the supercharged models, this allowed the old flat head six to compete with all the new V8s the big boys made.
I remember thinking the "FE" stood for iron on the periodic table. I figured it was big iron, so why not? Boy was I such a nerd.
Just found this channel and thank you!! I love it, such a hands on view of everything and knowledge of the times they were built 👌
=) welcome to the community this is way more than just another car channel
Hi Jay! Thanks for the tour of the AACA library! Good to know the organization is still going strong. Have a stack of old Antique Automobile magazines laying around somewhere. Always good stuff in those. I would say that most people would say that the Y-Job one of, if not the first "concept car". Before that time, though, manufacturers regularly made special body styles for the major car shows around the country. Particularly in the 1930's. You may have seen the replica Auburn "Cabin Speedster" up in the ACD museum. The original one burned at a car show in Los Angeles. The companies also made "specials" for the 1933-34 Chicago World's Fair. The Duesenberg "Twenty-Grand" was built for display there, as well as the Pierce Silver Arrow. Which later Pierce produced in small numbers. There were many such cars from Hupmobile, and the HCM special 12-cylinder Marmon to name a few. Edsel Ford had some "specials" produced to try out different styling ideas, that he personally drove. BUT, the whole concept car thing really took off in the postwar years and particularly in the 1950's with GM's Mptpramas. Since Worls's fairs were pretty scarce. GM decided to take their own show on the road with the Motoramas, that visited quite a few cities during their time. That was the real GOLDEN AGE of concept cars. Every GM division had specials in the show. The 1953 Corvette was a motorama display car, that was actually operable (as many of them were) and eventually was built in production!! So, if there had been no GM Motorama, there would most probably be no Corvettes either!
@@JefferyHall-ct2tr great insight that place is awesome if your looking for hard to find information they probably have it I was having technical difficulties with this one I'll have to iron out the details I really want to do a podcast style once or twice a month and just talk cars with people in the community but found doing this one I can't physically do everything I'll have to see if I could get someone else to look at the questions there is potential for that segment
I think Nash himself started at working with Buick years before he come out with his own car GJM
Yep =)
Hello Jay! The 1960 Cadillac was a nice freshening of the 1959 design. The fins were much more refined on the 1960's Cads. The 390 Cadillac engine was a pretty good motor. WYR #1 1960 Cadillac WYR#2 1959 Cadillac, just for giggles and fins. . . .
Hi Jay! Too darn bad they can't find a way to save the United States! Such a waste! WYR One Normandy. Two SS United States
@@JefferyHall-ct2tr I was just reading a concrete magnet wants to try and save it but I feel like the most cost effective way to keep her is to put it on land property taxes are cheaper than docking fees Sweet choices
@@What.its.like. Have to agree. It seems as though once it was on land, your idea of making it into office building, hospital, housing, heck, you might even be ablte to make it into a mall or something!
That mini-car shown at the 14th minute looks similar to the 3 wheeler Bond Bug. The Bond Bug was sold in the British market in the early 1970's, but it was not a sales success.
I think it's called citycar or something..yes the bond bug was a sales failure due to its high price
Man what a car! Gorgeous!
WYR1: Although it was a fourth-year facelift, and not a particularly harmonious one at that, I'd take the Imperial. WYR2: "Anything worth doing is worth overdoing," goes the old saying and it certainly applies to these cars, but they were too far over the top for me. I'd hold out for a '61 Continental. In the late sixties one of my elementary school friends' father had a '60 Cadiddle-yak. My parents had a '51 Commander and a Lark.
I love these early crazy ass engines!!
More are one the way
Caddy 60
Maybe I missed it somewhere in the comments, but did anyone notice this series 62 convertible has an Eldorado and Sixty Special rear grille treatment and not a solid cast rear grille treatment. Looks nice but if you're going for the proper original look, the rear grille needs to be correct. Like looking at a 1959 Eldorado with chrome blister pods at the rear quarters. Only the 60 Special had these. All other models were body color. Again, it looks nice, but please, give these old beauties their proper trim. They'll love ya for it!!
Yeah, I mentioned it in the video this one had a lot of custom treatment done to it. I didn't realize that it had the El Dorado back plate until after shooting it.
Can you imagine how much these cars would cost to build today.😎
There was also the 70 challenger T/A trim option
Awesome thank you so much for that correction
@What.its.like. oh no problem, awesome video love it
I counted 82 “bullets” on the front grill
59 looks like a 50’s version of a space ship
NIIIICE!
Rather 1, 1960 Caddy, Rather 2, 1959 Caddy. Notice the bumpers on this car have no bolts showing (except some behind the front license plate, which shouldn't be showing anyway). This was a feature of the top end GM cars of the time. Most cars had chrome headed 'bumper' bolts showing.
Hey Jay! It's so unique it is a museum all by itself like the 59. Thanks again.
Too bad the streamlining of the 1959 model was so bulbous and fat looking ! If they had trimmed the fenders a bit it would have helped; but then most of the other big cars of the 'Fifties were rather bulky too !
Now that was a land craft
💋
That was a fun field trip. I would have missed several aspects of their library had I just gone alone.
I wish we could've finished filming. The hotspot died and I couldn't get it back up again once I got it back., We will go back there for sure if you have a Classic Car and you're looking for information they have it
'60 is so beautifully styled.
60 Dash... This one has a dual master for the brakes, good modification! 60 Cadillac Whew, please 60 Cadillac, understated elegance, unlike the other two!
For 60k brand new thats a lot of car for the money with the features and beauty. And thr paint color!
Not a bad looking car. I think i prefer this one over a '59 convertible. The lines seem more graceful and proportioned.
Those are new after market head lamps with led rings
5 STARS
My parents and I drove a 60 Caddy convert from Chicago to California thru one of those "drive away" programs, where a car owner wants his car moved from one place to another but doesn't want to drive it himself. They paid us to drive the car! I was only about 6 when this happened, so I don't remember a lot. My mom really thought it was cool to drive a Caddy, tho! The one you looked at did have modern headlights, and I think that the wire wheels could have been an option back then, Alternators on GM cars appeared in 63 and Ford gt them in 65. WYR= I'm pretty sure not one of those cars would fit in my garage, but I'd take the 60 Lincoln and the 58 Caddy. Great video, Jay!
Sweet choices and insight =)
Thanks for the library tour. Entertain a suggestion for some engine videos if the community is interested-engine episode or 2 on outboard boat engines like Evinrude, Johnson, Mercury, and the inboard engines plus the automotive engines adapted for marine use, and maybe touch again on the Amphicar's Triumph engine.
Thank you so much for those requests I had some technical issues with this live feed and it wouldn't let me see the live chat which was disappointing
Imperial 1959
15:23 Chrysler is credited with inventing the alternator and hence was the first automaker to use alternators.
Chrysler first intoduced the alternator on their production cars with the 1961 models i believe?🤔🙂
That sounds correct, as I have seen pictures of the slant 6 (which came out in 60) with a generator.
1960 is one of my all time favorite Cadillacs. I owned a 1959 Coupe deVille in 1966 and concerning interior differences between '59 and '60, I do like the upper portion of the styling of the door panels of the '59 better. Also the '59 had a series of horizontal white lines on each side of the speedometer that I really liked. However, the '60 is a much cleaner and more unified design. If only Cadillac could make cars this beautiful today. It's absolutely no suprise at how fast this car sold. Thanks for sharing it with us.
The headlights look after market. I see a circle of LEDs in the headlights.
The ‘59s get all the attention, but the ‘60 is actually a handsomer car.
That 52 Lincoln is gorgeous! I'll have that!
Very handsome car. Imagine cruising through the hills in this on a warm sunny day. I'd choose the 1960 Series 62 in both scenarios.
Which cars had factory air if available?
