Today on what it’s like 1936 Mercedes-Benz W143 I mean 230, this is when Mercedes-Benz made quality cars. This is a lower on the totem pole Mercedes-Benz and it just screams quality everywhere you look no black plastic no plastic covers covering anything everything is real and this is a quality built car. This absolutely stunning example of a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 230 is currently for sale at auto...

Happy Sunday everybody, as far as detail goes I think this one is the best episode yet. You will see this car for the very first time… but with that said I apologize I was missing some footage of the dash which is a total missed opportunity and travesty frankly because this instrument panel is one of the best dashboards from 1962.. Anyway today on what it’s like 1962 Chrysler 300 H.. pretty rar...

Passed on one at a junkyard, Brooklyn, in the late 70's. My dream, a 34 coupe kit car for it. 200hp I figured enough for a 2000lb car. Alas
I will take the Turnpike cruiser any Day!
My 50 Ford had the fathead V8 which was an excellent engine which Ford quit producing. Now I buy only Fords with the 5.0 which I strongly suspect the bright new engineers at Ford are doing their damndest to delete as an option. Buzz on with the electrics but I am not buying.
I had a 64, and it was excellent. My first car was a 68. Both excellent cars.
Both scenario: the DeSoto. I like the styling, simply elegant.
Sweet choices
It was known as the "Forward Look" not movement.
Yes
When did the 312 and 292 come in
Those are different family ford Y block
COOL !!!
Just before leaving Ft. Polk, LA in September 1971, I purchased a 1962 Chrysler Newport 4 door in Shell Beige for $300. I drove it home to Chicago and drove home on weekends from my new assignment at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, in Indiana, on weekends. It had a bad neutral switch and the speedometer cable had to be replaced. I traded it for a 1966 Mustang just before reporting to my permanent duty assignment at Ft. Carson, CO in October of 1971. I definitely got more than $300 usage out of that Chrysler.
First AMERICAN luxury car with ONE SOLID PIECE interior.. DOOR PANEL
OH.Thank you for the mention of the Karmin-Geeah.my friend had a red Karmin-Geeah in 1964 & as he was 16 & I was only 14 I rode with him a lot & we went to numerous places in his car.
Hi Justin, excellent video! All of your video's are very accurate! I am 64 years old and I was an automobile mechanic most of my career. I also worked at a transmission shop. My late father bought a 1961 Pontiac Tempest 2 door sedan. I also had an uncle that had an 1963 Pontiac Tempest convertible and plus, I had a second grade school teacher that had an 1963 Pontiac LeMans convertible. The transaxle in the 1961-1963 Tempest/LeMans was 90% the same as the transaxle found in the Chevrolet Corvair. The Corvair automatic transaxle was a 2 speed, called the "Corvair Powerglide". The Tempest/LeMans automatic transaxle was a 2 speed, called the "Tempest Glide". The 1960 Chevrolet Corvair "GM Z-Body" was GM"s first compact car, fallowed by the Chevy II "GM X-Body" in 1962, as was the 1960 Ford Falcon, Fords first compact car. The 1960 Plymouth Valiant was Chrysler's first compact car. In 1961, when GM came out with the, Pontiac Tempest/LeMans, Oldsmobile F-85/Cutlass and the Buick Special/Skylark these three car lines where NOT "compacts", nor mid-size. They where produced on the GM Y body, as an "senior compact". They would NOT become a full "mid size" until 1964 using the "GM A-Body", (body on frame) as was the Chevrolet Chevelle/Malibu. The Ford Motor Company did the same thing. The Falcon was a "compact", but in the mean time, the Mercury Comet (1960) fallowed by the Ford Fairlane (1962) where a "senior compact". The Comet and Fairlane would NOT become a real "mis-size" until 1966. Please reply! Dave...
Thank you again. As I said about the Nash or Hudson Metropolitan, I was born in 1948 and was somewhere between 5 & 10 years old in the 1950's. But I do remember that one of my Father's friends had a Metropolitan. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
I got a 65 GTO as a graduation gift. Midnight Blue, blue int, tri power, 4 speed, exhaust splitters, red line tiger paw tires. Got drafted year later. Absolutely loved that car. Vietnam Vet who is a 65 GOAT lover.
Keep em coming.
Plan on it =)
Cool cars. If a trunk was installed, where would you put the spare tire?

Hi Justin, It's Dave. Sorry that I have not been with you in awhile because my computer has been down. I had to have the motherboard replaced. It's a six year old business/commercial laptop costing $2500, and that is with out the factory computer dock, so I did not want to purchase a new laptop.
Oh wow I’m sorry that your having/had computer problems
My family had a 1952 Desoto Firedome the Plymouth's bigger brother
Sweet =)
I just bought one yesterday. There is a hole on floor on drivers side . There is a bowl or something there, what is it for?
Brake master cylinder?
WYR I rarely do this but 33 Desoto for both choices. That DeSoto is an attractive car for its class. I don't think I ever saw one. I am just curious, do you ,or anybody really, know what the purpose of all those wires coming out of the steering column were for.?
Awesome choices I think all of those wires coming out of the bottom is for the ground but I’m not entirely sure that’s why I didn’t say anything I’ll ask to get the correct answer
It is a magnificent automobile!🔹💙🔹 Thank you so much for this study of a work of art from a golden age! ✨🥇✨
Awesome happy you dig this episode =) I love the 115 C want to own one someday don’t care body style
@@What.its.like. Good luck my friend, I hope you can make that special purchase! 🌠👌🏼
Olds developed the drce
Cool video, I have several straight 8 Buicks myself. It's my experience and understanding that insert bearings weren't used in the big ends of these engines until 1950. Before that they used babbit bearings in the con rod big ends (which interestingly enough could be adjusted somewhat by removing shims from under the caps).. Also forgot to mention the new piston and cylinder head design for the 1953 263 engine. (probably a list ditch effort by Buick to squeeze some more power out of the straight 8 before completely defaulting to the Nailhead for all models in 54)
Thank you so much for sharing that information =)
Ummm...I passed my driver's license in my Dad's 1959 LeSabre convertible...and it definitely had that Dynaflow transmission...I did not know how operate a three-speed manual back then!
I admit to being disappointed when the Plymouth/Dodge 62's came out. However, the design has grown on me; and, today, I like it better than many of the older finned vehicles.
It’s a design that has grown on me as well
My Aunt had a tucker car! When I was young she told me that no one new how to work on it so if it broke down sje would leave it on the side of the road. ! This was in the 50 's
Wow that’s crazy thank you so much for sharing that story =) what a cool memory
My father bought a 4-cylinder Tempest in November 1960. He traded it in 2-years later with 17,000 miles due to engine vibration. He usually kept a car for 10-years.
Ahead of it's time 32. Compared to ford then. Suicide doors 😂. Byplane w all doors open
WILLIAM D CORRADO, JR OWNED A 1962 BUICK RED CONVERTIBLE. GREAT STYLING, FUN TO DRIVE,,NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR , OWNED THE CAR UNTIL 1966. GOT MANY COMPLIMENTS ON THAT CAR!! GM KNEW HOW TO BUILD THEM !!! 81 YRS YOUNG ##### LOVED ALL AMERICAN CARS WAY BACK THEN ****** BEFORE ALL THE IMPORTED CARS . SOME WERE GARBAGE SOME GOOD , JUST A PROUD AMERICAN WHO STILL LOVES AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE'S!!!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲👀👀😁😁🚘🚘🚘

An elegant car indeed. The fenders hide the frame front and the hood hinge is nicely smoothed to name only two items.
I just saw one of these today and it was equiped with a heater. It apparently was an option. this one had a dump box and was equipped to ;plow snow.
Had a 1963 Corvette Sting Ray with a 4 BBL Carter AFB, solid lifter 4:11 rear close ratio 4 spd 327 c.i., 340 HP. Motor cratered and put in a 327 c.i. 365 HP replacement. Car was stolen while living in Wash DC area and DC police found it a chop shop in pieces. Went to court, since they arrested the teenager who stole it. They let the kid off because the police used an illegal search & seizure warrant. Told the judge I now had the kid's address and was considering paying him a visit with 2 friends. One was a 275 lb scholarship offensive tackle at Penn State. The other was a 240 lb power lifter with a 50 inch chest 20 inch biceps who had benched pressed 500 lbs in a formal sanctioned powerlifting meet. The judge hoped I'd reconsider. After some thought I decided not to.
A beautiful example of a beautifully designed car - it reminds me a lot of the ‘32 or ‘33 Plymouth coupe you featured a while back. Chrysler certainly had its styling mojo intact! My impression is that the DeSoto brand was marketed chiefly at the young Smart Set, especially women, who would have found the $8.00 automatic clutch an enticing proposition. The interior of the car also suggests a clear focus on making the car’s interior a readily recognized thing of beauty - it’s all very meticulously done.
10:32 That's the same heat knob my '55 Chevy Pickup had.
9:56 that oil/temp/speedo/gas/amp cluster is GREAT. Victorian, I'd say. I can imagine it in the original movie "The Time Machine" from 1960.
7:46 I don't know if you noticed it Jay, but the reflection in that car door is AMAZINGLY mirror perfect.
11:03 Just DANG that paint is really GREAT on this car.
Yeah it was, the owner drives this one and loves this car he has other old cars but loves driving this one
7:25 My dad said all cars before 1935 had the "soft top." (He's no longer with us, but I remember him saying that was one way to tell 1935 vs 1936 cars.)
Packard were one of the 1st companies to do a full steel top
6:30 I'd call that color Oxblood ... I don't know if that name is used any more. It's a BEAUTIFUL color, in my book. I wish I painted my '55 Chevy pickup that color.
5:00 "Let's talk styling ..." That _is_ a sharp looking car.
It seems to be very simple but very high quality build.
Very elegant for DeSoto
2:04 Notice how "modest" the men's bathing suits are in that DeSoto ad.
0:03 I remember my grandparents talking _endlessly_ about the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.
My Aunt owned a 77 Eldo and Uncle owned a 78 V and the Caddy could not hold a candle for fit and finish to the Mark V. Nope
I totally agree there are people that like the caddy over the Lincoln in the Cadillac it feels like a big luxury brick the mark v feels special I love how pointy it is
3 of us football players rolled our coaches car on game day. His car was a 62 Pontiac Tempest station wagon with the 215 aluminum V8. The car was fast but a muddy road and deep ditch stopped us. The opposing football team stopped us that night as well.😊
Great story thank you so much for sharing that memory with us =)
Nice job on the video J. Handsome car. The height of the windshield gives it a chopped look from the front that I don't see in the sides. I think the color combination works on this car too. The grill reminds me of late 30's Chevy pickups. I'd choose the 1932 Studebaker in the first scenario and the 1932 De Soto in the second.
Sweet choices I should’ve asked the owner when opening the windshield if it opens individual I don’t think it does. I think it opens as one unit.
Tucker was a brilliant dreamer. He was to trusting he need so actual businessmen who were on his side to fend off the big three. My neighbor restored one it was amazing that the scorpions rock you like a hurricane.
One of my dream cars!❤ Thank you for sharing 👍😊
You bet I love these as well
Something about design of this period radiates quality and brilliance. Truly killed off by the Government Depression and WWII.
I would take the Packard all day long !! Love it !!!!
Sweet choice =)
Size 12 shoe... grandma always said if you got big feet, you have a good under-standing.
