I met a guy while in Toronto who was friends with John Candy , he was a movie screen writer and worked on movie sets.. John had already died and I told him what a big fan I was of John's and how I loved his comedy so much... I don't know why but he started telling stories about John and how when he died , he said the funeral procession was nothing like he had never seen before, he said the police in LA had the big freeway out there from downtown to Culver City Calif. Blocked completely and all exits blocked so all the cars for the funeral could go thru without disruption. He said folks were lined up all along the edge of the freeway yelling out Johns name and throwing flowers to the hearse , he said it was amazing how much he was loved.. He and I were at a Celebrity convention in Canada and as we parted we took photos of us together, this was around Oct.1994 and John had died March 4TH 1994, on his last movie WAGONS EAST and was cremated .. SO this guy named Dave who was a friend of Johns as we were parting from having lunch together, he asked for my address and said he would send me some things from John's office and I thinked said how wonderful that would be.. I did my business in Canada and flew back home , I never saw Dave again before leaving.. so time passed and I kind of forgot about Dave ..months later I received this big package and it also contained a huge tube that posters or art work is mailed in. I was very surprised that on a chance meeting that we would both have John in common, and time had went by and I forgot about his offer to send some John Candy things..and you know how folks are being well meaning but saying they will do something and really intend on doing it and just putting it on the back burner and forgetting it completely. Since many months went by I myself forgot about it. Well I opened the art or poster tube first, and in it was posters from 1986 Armed and Dangerous movie signed by John Candy, it was the large one that is put up at theaters . Then there were small ones from movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles signed, and from movie Summer Rental mini movie poster vintage.. all this great stuff and I still had the package to open. Inside that was a letter explaining what everything was, there was a baseball hat ,and a T shirt that said "FROST BACKS " on it . Dave said in the letter that this was the name John Candy decided to name his Productions Company and I was a little confused by that until Dave explained that John was Canadian, and it was suppose to be a funny take on what Hispanics were called coming from Mexico to the US. Of course in this day and age it would be socially incorrect to maybe name something that, but at that time it was not looked on as making fun of someone else, John was making fun of himself being Canadian... I got the meaning tho... also there were some photos of John with his family, and a couple of scripts that was signed be John of movies that he had planned to put into production..... I could not believe this guy who I had a chance meeting with in Toronto would be so kind and generous to part with so many great things that were a part of John... I have these things now that I go thru whenever anyone mentions John and his movies. I keep them very safe and protected.. Thanks to Johns friend Dave I received some of the best Personal Collectables ever !!!!!

John Candy was one of those rare comedians who could take something mundane and ordinary and make it so funny that people watching would wet their pants or laugh so hard that they couldn't breathe. I miss that guy.
Well, he was what you might call an "everyman", as in a normal, humble human being that audiences can identify with; even off-screen, John Candy was a pretty normal guy from his head to his toes

@The Bushwacker SNL is not Democratic. SNL's job is to make fun of whoever's in power. They had a field day lampooning Bill Clinton and to a lesser extent Barak Obama. George Bush Sr. loved Dana Carvey's impression of him and even invited him to dinner at the White House. Carvey also did a wonderful Ross Perot. Alec Baldwin does a great job doing Trump, which isn't easy as Trump is already sort of a cartoon character in real life, and it's hard to parody a parody. I don't think Jim Carrey is doing such a great job at impersonating Biden but maybe the dialogue he's given is to blame. They should probably let Carrey ad lib or write his own lines. So I reject your claim that SNL is blindly Democratic and only lampoons Republicans. Their main purpose is to point out absurdities that make everyone laugh, and they take on everyone in order to do that.
