Except for certain technologies, it is hard to tell whether the shows were a week ago, a year ago, twenty years ago, etc. Whereas if I'm watching something else with a younger friend, they don't get half the jokes. I feel like I have to make a checklist of all movies and/or song references and make sure they get it, lol
I was thinking the same before reading the replies. The human condition doesn't change and there are always funny human traits in all of us that reflect the exaggerated characters on the show to some degree. I don't say it's a show about nothing, it's a show about everything.
They poke fun at the folly of the human ego with all its silly desires and failures. George's character in particular embodies that. Even when he's succeeding in life he manages to sabotage it. The genius is that the writers made all of this calamity so hilarious rather than tragic. When Susan dies from the toxic envelopes is a perfect example. George gets out of the marriage he never wanted but look at the aftermath with Susan's parents and "The Foundation." I seriously don't trust anyone who doesn't like Seinfeld. For me it means they can't laugh at their own shortcomings.
"Jerry it's Frank Costanza, Mr. Steinbrenner is here, George is dead, call me back." Such a succinct yet powerful line is what makes it so hilarious. It makes it even better that Jerry Stiller says it.

One reason for that is they didn't rely on a lot of pop culture humor, but rather social customs that don't change much from generation to generation.

George and Kramer were hilarious. They were my favorite characters on the show. This show had a great supporting cast.

@@jerryleroy9187 - No no, the mobile phone era (from mainstream-ish use to the smartphone) was the best era in humanity - I think we truly achieved a great balance with technology and it all got screwed coinciding with the release of the smartphone
