Thank you for inspiring me to revisit a photo I captured of giraffes. They’re full of humor and personality. I’ll now be working on my newbie skills, with the goal of painting them one day. 😊
Wow the giraffe is gorgeous! Only 3 colors, gosh I have got to start trying to do more limited palettes with my painting subjects. I tend to use way too many premixed colors. I am surprised that you don’t have any greens or violets in the palette, but I guess mixing them would be better. I struggle with mixing up my own colors when I try. Just got to keep practicing more. Thanks for sharing this wonderful information.
Beautiful painting. Thank you for sharing your incredible talent, knowledge and techniques. Like the organization of your palette and paints. Haven’t thought about the palette organization. I do have my paints organized. So now I’ll arrange my palette differently. You never fail to inspire . Appreciate you!
I also bought this palette and have chosen my favourite colours across brands to fill it. I love how it is set up in form of the colour wheel which should help with mixing. It’s huge and heavy though! Your painting is lovely! I’m happy that you like Schmincke paints, they are beautiful to work with and great for layering. I think it’s transparent Sienna that you use - the transparent ochre has a funny texture and is much more yellowish. I really like the Schmincke transparent brown - it’s the only brown I actually use for mixing and it makes wonderful neutrals with their Phthalo Sapphire blue (which is their red shade).
Always SO inspiring to watch your light transparent application of colour, yet you still achieve the realism I love. My style is deeper and fussier even when I try not to be 😂😂. Going to pull out some giraffes and give it a go again! Thank you! Love Shminke paints and your three choices. Ceramic palettes are the best! Stay well. Take a holiday soon. We will all love you anyway!
I love your giraffe painting!! I have not used Schmincke paints before and usually use WN or DS. I will have to try them. You are such a great inspiration and wonderful teacher! Thank you!!
I am so thrilled to have accidentally found your RUclips channel while scrolling! I love your work! Thank you for the great tips and sharing your techniques! Greetings from Cape Town 🇿🇦❤
Hi, I think you keep mistaking Transparent sienna with Transparent Ochre. Actually those 3 paints are Burnt Umber PBr7, Transparent Sienna PR101 (not transparent ochre PY42)and French UltraMarine PB29.
I did- sorry for the confusion. It was Transparent Sienna that I used. No idea what I was thinking- you get something in your head and you can't get it out. Thanks. ❤️
Just wonderful to watch and learn from! I've followed along with you on your skillshare giraffe class, and so much has changed! It was great before but this is brilliant. It's loose, confident and showcases such skill. Thank you for taking us along on this learning journey, and being such a generous teacher :) !!
26:44 I have unsubscribed from many creators this summer but I would never unsubscribe from you! I look forward to Sat Chat all week and your tutorials and reviews are always entertaining and informative. It is so difficult to know what all influences peoples watching habits…. There are probably many things beyond your control. Thank you for continuing to be you and posting for all of us.
Hello, I am really happy to see that you are going to use Schmincke horadam colours. I am from Germany, so it is logical that I starter with schmincke colours, last month I added some new colorurs from m. Graham. I love both. Now I'm curious if you will love the Schmincke too.
Hello Louise, havent messaged you for a while, but im still enjoying your beautiful videos! Just wanted to say what a lovely patient hubby you have!🤩Love your giraffe! Regards from very hot Switzerland! Robyn
I like the way you paint sooooooo much ! I wish I could like my style as much, or get closer your's... but apparently, we can't force our style, it develops itself as we go.
Incredibly beautiful, I can just about manage to draw the subject but then the painting in, somehow I don't have an eye for that. Will this giraffe also be on Patreon?
Just letting you know that I clicked on the links for the colineo brushes and the arches watercolour paper and the links 404'd. I'm in Australia and I don't know if that's the issue as a lot of the Jackson's items they can no longer ship here now that they have a store here (due to stupid geo blocking by other companies who have deals with manufacturers). The links to a few of the other Da Vinci brushes seem to be working. I love Schminke paints. I have the gouache and a watercolour set of 12 pans and they all perform like magic.
Love this lesson on the giraffe! You make it look so easy! Thanks so much for all the info you give along the way with each demo. Also, could you please tell me the brand of that storage container? It’s perfect for holding the paints. I’ve looked on line for one similar but to no avail! I’d appreciate any Info you can share with me!
Thanks for this tutorial, it was very useful, are u doing a full version on Patreon for us? I do hope so, I love this Giraffe. How are 7 finding the Schmincke Horadam? I have them, I do like them very much plus some of the granulating sets. I nearly switched brands as u use W&N and it would be easier for me with the same colours etc. But I think I'll hold off until I hear your verdict on the Schmincke as I do like them better! Thanks if u get the time to respond. 👋
Hi Paula, so far I am loving them. I really love the French Ultramarine. Its granulating effect is superb. I don't plan on making a full-length tutorial of this painting for Patreon I'm sorry. I didn't film all of it - just bits and pieces. I have so many to catch up on, I didn't want to overwhelm myself with another one.
Very beautiful 🥰. I‘m a total beginner and have a question. Why do you have very similar colors on your palette such as prussian Blue, phtalo blue and helio cerulean or Transparent siena and burnt siena? And do you generally mix green yourself? Thank you 🙂
I use a small brush like a 0 or 2-0. You'll find all my favourite art supplies here including the brushes I use and recommend. www.louisedemasi.com/art-supplies
Hi Shelly, I haven't used them enough yet to say but I am very happy with them so far. Winsor & Newton are getting more difficult to get hold of over here so I thought I'd give Schmincke a try.
Awesome demo as usual. Are you sure about Transparent Ochre? Looks more like Transparent Sienna to get that gray. Just a bit confused because I get greens with PY42 and Ultramarine.
Oooh! It is Transparent Sienna rather than Transparent Ochre. See 4min20. Transparent Sienna is made of PR101 just like W&N's Burnt Sienna so that's why you get a gray.
Hello Louise! Is this same Giraffe is on your patreon page? I have seen one but it's not the same. I was just curious because I really love the other one! Your work is amazing, thank you so much for this video, it helps me a lot to practice the eyes...which is a real challgenge....:)
Thank you! I'm not an oil painter but I don't see why not. I think a lot of oil painters stand at an easel when they work and many of them work with a wooden palette that they can put their thumbs through and hold as they paint.
Thank you for your tutorials. Very helpful! Question: What has changed, so that you are not using sloping well anymore? I was debating with myself, if I should get some. @Bonnie3533: That’s funny I am also from Germany and started with Schmincke and lately bought some M. Graham (and Qor) colors to extend my painting experience. Love them all!!
My pleasure and thank you!. My method of painting has changed. I never did much mixing before. I used to use colours straight from the tubes and if I needed the colour to be at its full intensity I used to wipe my wet brush over the hardened paint. I liked that it went hard on the palettes with the sloping wells, because the paint was sitting up the top of the well it didn't get all gooey and sticky. It was how I taught myself to use watercolour and it suited me back then. Now I know how important it is to use semi-neutrals and mix colours and I'm quite happy to refresh the paint with water and also use freshly squeezed paint when I mix. So I no longer have the need for palettes with sloping wells.
A almost forgot about the out-takes which never fail to make me smile.
Very real looking giraffe Louise! Thanks for sharing your talent to your RUclips painters!
I love how you paint giraffes! What a wonderful video - thank you!
Thank you Monique. I love painting them.
Beautiful! I appreciate the time, skill, and energy you put into each video. Thank you for freely sharing your knowledge and talent.
You are welcome! Thank you Nonnie.
Louise, you painted this giraffe perfectly beautiful! You captured the eye and the eyelashes so well. I love your painting❤ Helene

Thank you Colleen. I find greens are definitely better when you mix them yourself. The only green I find ok to use out of the tube is sap green.
@@LouiseDeMasi You’re welcome ☺️. Ahh thanks for sharing the tip of the Sap Green. I have to get that color.
I agree about sap green bu also must say phthalo green whilst garish by itself can mix the most amazing greens with so many colours
It is always a pleasure to watch you paint. You make it look effortless. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent.
I loved the out takes
That is so beautiful. Giraffes have the most gorgeous eyes!
This is absolutely stunning. I learn so much from watching your skill; it is breathtaking to see the impact of simplicity
Beautiful.
Thank you, Louise.
Thank you too!
I have a ceramic pallete and I love it for my studio! Hello sweet Louise 💖
Love your giraffe painting!❤
Thank you Barbara.

A pleasure. Thank you Rod.
That eye stands out. Its so beautiful!!! ❤ love love love your tutorials, you and everything about you! ❤
Can you do a tutorial on snow leopards???
Yess I can do that. 💙
Thank you so much!! 🥰

Oh Louise… that eye… uau! 😍😍🤩
Schmincke French Ultramarine is one of my absolute favourite paints. Love the granulation. It’s a beautiful painting, the eye is fantastic!
I was really surprised- it's beautiful. Thank you Sonya.
I love your giraffe painting!! I have not used Schmincke paints before and usually use WN or DS. I will have to try them. You are such a great inspiration and wonderful teacher! Thank you!!

Stunning painting! I'm a beginner and watching older videos along with all the new has helped dramatically.
Wonderful! That makes me very happy to know. Thank you Connie.

Absolutely beautiful.
Well done! I love the 3 colors!
Such a dear family. I'm sure it's a pleasure to work w Dom and your son.

Wonderful session and very entertaining and informative. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you Edgor.
I loved the end of the video! not quite bloopers but cute

Love it❤

Thanks so much Helene. That's true. We all have our own individual styles. It will come as you keep painting. 🥰
Incredibly beautiful, I can just about manage to draw the subject but then the painting in, somehow I don't have an eye for that. Will this giraffe also be on Patreon?

oohhhhh, fabulous. Maybe a video tutorial ;)
Thanks MD! I didn't film all of the giraffe though.

I’m still using the spinning one. LOL
Do you find these paints superior to DS and WN?

@@LouiseDeMasi Thank you for the precision. You do say Transparent Ochre a few times. That's why I was confused. 🤔
Very beautiful painting! What sizs of paper did you use?
Thank you! It was a full sheet that I cut in half.
Gutted to discover you don't ship your prints to the UK ☹
I do ship them to the UK. I ship them all over the world. Let me know why you think I don't and we can sort it out.
Beautiful
sucesso❤❤❤
Louise, the images show Transparent Sienna but you kept calling out Transparent Ochre. Can you clarify?
Hi Lynn, Yes apologies. I used Transparent Sienna. I've no idea why I kept saying transparent ochre - senior moment probably. ❤️
Hello Louise! Is this same Giraffe is on your patreon page? I have seen one but it's not the same. I was just curious because I really love the other one! Your work is amazing, thank you so much for this video, it helps me a lot to practice the eyes...which is a real challgenge....:)
Hi Isabelle. No this is a different one. You can see the giraffe on Patreon on the tutorial index on my website. Thanks so much.
Brilliant!!
LouiseAustralia 🦘
Have kurtake tambsi water colours but they don't have same colour names
What about a lid , is there not one? Also I look forward to patreon tutorials with your newer style of painting
Yes there is a lid but it's more of a plastic dust cover than a lid.
You inspire me.. but I will confess I used four colors on my giraffe!
What was the extra colour you used? 😊
You are so special and art is so unique love all . I tend to know if Ceramic plates can be used for oil paint !
Thank you! I'm not an oil painter but I don't see why not. I think a lot of oil painters stand at an easel when they work and many of them work with a wooden palette that they can put their thumbs through and hold as they paint.
