LIVING LEGEND
WOW, I remember Yolande Bavan in Sri-Lanka back in the 60's. I was very young when she visited my home a couple of times. My Father Gazali Amit now 97 who was a jazz guitarist accompanied her on a radio show. She is a wonderful jazz singer.
Your dad was one of our heroes growing up in Srilanka....superb musician. What a paucity of especially jazz those days.
@moinjay3274 He passed away in Sydney on 08/10/23.
I saw Lambert, Hendricks and Bavan in Montreal in 1963 or 1964. Yolande made a good replacement for Annie Ross and the group was as good as ever. This interview is a wonderful memory of a golden age of jazz and a good time for me, a young lad from the Lincolnshire Fens in the UK, to then be around in North America.
Fabulous! The only thing I didn’t like about this video is that it was too short! I could listen to her for hours 😃❣️
I agree
Would love to have more posts with Yolande Bavan....such a wonderful person!
I could sing to lambert hendricks ross and bavan all day long...it would be my desert island disc choice...i love ms bavan when she sings "Shining Stockings" fabulous classy lady
Remembering you from way back in the 1940’s/50’s. Love Derrick
Please post more of Yolanda Bavan!
I can't believe anybody would hire a singer in a jazz group on a basis of one high note.
Lambert must have heard Ms.Bavan sing something swinging before or after.
Agree....there seems to be some details missing from her story...like for starters, how did Lambert and Hendricks get all of her Embassy/State Dept paperwork completed as if she didn't know anything about it until Hendricks called her, lol. Sounds ridiculous...she would have had to given someone all of her personal information for the application and been somewhat in know.
