  • Hello everyone!
As promised, here's my cover of Animenz's Michishirube. I really like all of his arrangement of Violet Evergarden's songs so I will definitely learn WILL some day. I want to move away from ballade style pieces for now since I've been playing them for the past few months.
I tried a new mic position this time using an XY configuration, similar to Ru's old mic set up (not sure what she uses now since I can't see it in the video). I really like how the recording turned out, especially at 4:02 as the treble really shines above the bass. It even sounds acceptable on my iPad which is a first - I normally don't like how my recordings turn out when listening to it there.
    Anyways, about the piece:
For the most part, this arrangement was quite straightforward but enjoyable to learn. However, the run at 2:50 was quite hard to play and I kind of cheated by skipping 2 notes 😅.
I was supposed to upload this a whole week ago but I listened to Animenz's original video and realised my pedalling was all over the place, especially at the section starting 2:00. For example, it's better to hold the pedal down at 2:03 than follow the staccato written in the score, the same applies at 2:14 for the upwards right hand arpeggio.
At 4:02, you really just have to hope for the best and focus on your right hand mostly haha. I'm quite lucky to have gotten it the first time during recording since I practiced it quite a bit. I found that the Fazioli treble was a bit too sparkly for that section so I had to really control how hard I was hitting those octaves.
Lastly, my favourite part of this arrangement would definitely be the introduction, starting at 0:14. It sounds really warm on my piano and makes me want to play it over and over.
The next video will be Everyday World from Oregairu!
    See you then ˙˚ʚ(´◡`)ɞ˚˙

Animenz's Violet Evergarden arrangements are really something else, and Michishirube always stood out to me in particular (both Animenz's take as well as the original!). And your dynamic control is still incredible and makes me realize I need to pay more attention to it myself. Your soft and delicate touch really shines during the more quiet sections! Listening to stuff like this makes me itch more and more to leave my digital for an acoustic piano (though most likely an upright).

I really like pieces that let me explore the different dynamics and pedalling rather than one that's just fff throughout.
As for an acoustic, you can find some really good second hand upright or grand pianos for a good price either online or through a piano dealer. Just gotta be patient and test a bunch of them!

I feel like you sound/look a lot more confident than on the earlier covers on your channel, and I really like it! Another great performance as ever :)
The way you mic'd up the piano this time is really nice, I second your opinion on 4:02 having the treble stand out.
Hope to see you again soon!

Another amazing performance! 👏 You made 4:00 look way too easy. I can't wait to see your cover of Animenz's arrangement of "Everyday World" definitely one of my favorites of his.

The hardest part of that section was to develop the muscle memory so I could get the note distances correct haha. After that, it's just grinding that section over and over again until I can play it accurately

      haha maybe not :P
The really fast arpeggios on page 4 (with the tremolos) scare me
I want to learn Snow Halation though! That's gonna take a long time

Как всегда сыграно шикарно, я тебя обожаю.
Чарльз, а как ты так быстро учишь произведения? Учишь каждую руку отдельно и играешь медленно?

    • @CharlesMaPiano
      @CharlesMaPiano  Год назад

I don’t bother with separate hands usually. The only time I play slowly is when I need to practice something fast like arpeggios or scales. Otherwise, I learn each section one at a time (as indicated in the score with A, B, C etc). After a day or two, I’m comfortable with it and move onto the next section so I’m always learning something and polishing what I’ve already learnt. I aim to learn 1 page every 3 days then spend a week or two fixing tempo and pedalling. If it’s a hard piece like snow Galatian or unravel then… might take 3 months lol
