The way you play in the beginning of the video... How can you play so lightly and still have that fat bass tone? Can you please explain how it's done? Thank you very much!
Great demo! Which size of the fret wraps are you using? Small, medium or large? Im assuming the difference is in the width. Im not sure which size would be better for five and six string basses.
Zechariah Frink their packaging suggests a medium for a 5 string and a large for a 6 string bass and 7-8 string guitars. XL is for all of the franken-string instruments haha.
The difference in the sound is notorious and that Fender Jazz Bass sounds awesome. Off topic: What happened with your classic little hat, Marc? A Jua... Jua...
NOOOOOO!!!! WHERE'S THE FEDORA?!?!?!?! Great video by the way. I've been looking at buying a fret wrap for ages but I've never quite fully understood the purpose of having one. Thanks for this video. It really helped me know that I don't need one for the music I play. But I'll buy one anyway just to mess around with and maybe try a few new styles! Also, one question: could I use the same one for a bass and a guitar?
+DaveSwag Awesome, I'm glad this helped you! Rest assured, the Fedora will be back in the next video! haha Yes, you could use them for both bass and guitar. There are different sizes, but the small size, which is the one that fits 4-string basses should also fit a 6-string guitar.
+Ron, call me "Ronnie" for short If you put it near the first fret and not too tight, you can still play open strings, though they may be a little muted. You can't play any harmonics though, as this will mute all harmonics and overtones. If you were playing something that needed muting AND harmonics, you would have to shift the position of the fretwrap throughout the song. You would to push it behind the nut when harmonics are needed (like I do at 2:17), and back into the fretboard when muting is needed.
Nice review! Loved that you started with a Wooten song (forgot how it's called though). But aren't these things too expensive for a piece of velcro? Can't you just make your own for 1/4 the price?
+TrapEgroeg Thank you! I guess if you know how to make one for 1/4 the price and have the time for it, that option could work for you. For me, I'm not the handiest guy with this stuff, I wouldn't know how to make it AND for me it's not that expensive that it would be worth the time of buying/researching materials, assembling it, etc. So I guess in my case, the convenience is worth paying for :)
4 years late but I just bought a fret wrap since using my bandana didn't work how I wanted it to, I've seen some people use bandanas and it worked for them, but not me, so I guess it also just depends on how you want it to sound/work.
It would be great to talk about small combo amps just to give a some sound. For example . I play in wedding band in London I do 5 hour sets and i just went directly inn to the mixer on stage but my hands so tired and i play to hard because of not being able to hear my self. so i bring a 40 Kilo combo just for a bit of back line it helps . Maybe do a video on whats the best types of light wait combos available ect thanks for reading Mr Bass Wizard.
+Aziz Mehmet Thank you, that's a good idea! The danger with not being able to hear yourself is that, as you said, you end up playing harder. This not only makes you tired and can lead to tendonitis and injuries, but it also results in losing all dynamics in your playing and affects your tone and technique. If you're plugging directly into the PA, you need to at least have a monitor wedge or in-ear monitors feeding your signal back to you so you can hear yourself. If there are no monitors to hear yourself, then you will need a small amp that is just used for stage volume so that you can hear yourself, which is what I end up using most of the time.
+Aziz Mehmet markbass is really light weight. If u could get a hold of a 15 inch cab and a head. You will be set trust me.. U will hear urself and the rest of the band will hear you too.
I like those a lot actually, I think i'll pick one up. I'm good at muting, but It's hard for me to mute during slap bass like "frankenstein" by marcus miller XD Now that i"m better at slap bass i can actually do the fills now
Playing a Victor Wooten song on a Marcus Miller Signature bass... you're a monster.
XD throw some more salt in that wound
Finally someone who do a good review. Others test it with strumming. lol

So much talent for one person it isn’t fair!!

+Rocco Sound Tube I wanted to see if anyone would notice! haha. It will be back on the next video ;)
+The Bass Wizard Great! The little hat is like your trademark. A Jua... Jua... Any way, your quality is untouched. Greetings from Argentina.
+Rocco Sound Tube You are right, it is my trademark! haha. It will be back in the next video!
Finally New video!!!!
+Wesley Hou Yes! It's been a pretty busy year, but I'm back! :)

The Bass Wizard Thanks for the reply! I'll go order one up the next chance I get!
What do you do if you want top incorporate harmonics in your solo or need an open string?

That's the word I was searching! didn't know, thanks mark.
+Alex Sanchez Miquel Awesome!
+The Bass Wizard Yay! Hats off, btw where's yours? Huh? haha great job at everything you do, 100% supporting.
+Alex Sanchez Miquel Thank you! The hat will be back! :)

what's the name of the song you play in the beginning?
Sex in A Pan - Victor Wooten
What is the difference between frettwraps and a compressor don,t they do the same things?
What size did you buy?
What size is that one btw your playing is awesome 👏
Perfect video. I will definitely improve my muting technique and THEN buy one of these. Thank you!

Mine is orange color!! Nice review~
There is so much technical info here and you all are thinking about his hat? Man, people get dumber by the decade.
Fretwrap médium ?

+99summoningpwns Nice! Did you by any chance learn from my Frankenstein lesson?
Yes! :D I watch it every day to improve my technique and to make sure i'm playing it right
Nice review! Are you just improvising at beginning? I seem to recognise the last bit but don't know where from.
The bass part is from "Sex in a Pan" from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
Hello! friend post other videos like that with Marcus Miller topic and others, we are learning a lot from you. thank you!
Thanks Marcelo ! I'm the bad habit type of guy !!! 🤭😏
You talk really well
