    This was actually my first attempt at making over an old blade of some sort, it nearly didnt get uploaded because of the struggles i had with the handle and the finish on the blade. As you will see , the blade has some serious pitting even after lots of work - I decided to quit taking down the metal as i felt that to get rid of all the imperfections there would be no steel left!Fix it restore it!

    Yeah, soft woods are a beast. I prefer either hard woods, rubber, or some form of micarta for mine, depending on the situation and tool in question.

    Odd question, but I would love to have my great grandmothers machete repaired. It was given to me by my grandmother before she passed. It’s in bad shape but I would send it to you and pay you and everything

    It came out nice even though you made two right side wood handle sides. Any time you are making handles for anything, you have to make a mirror imagine of each other...

      😎 First person to notice!!!! I was so frustrated after the first handle I rushed the second and that's what happens! Check out my clever video, I get it right on that one 😎

    Not bad at all for a first attempt. Soft woods like that, you can minimize splitting by putting some painter's tape across the back and sides before you start the chisel work. Thicker level padding underneath helps too. I had the exact same trouble with three sets of scales before giving up entirely and going with a harder wood. As to the finish, I think the rain storm patterning actually looked pretty good. Keep at it, interesting seeing your style emerge.

    Adjust your sound levels. Easily done in editing. I always appreciate watching someone speed up the process but your viewers can’t handle the high pitch whine in doing so. I’m no professional YTuber, but offer advice that may be more pleasant than reminiscing about a dentist’s drill. Cheers, Mark

    what was the first wood?

    • @FixitRestoreit
      @FixitRestoreit  5 лет назад +1

      Aromatic ceder - I have a feeling it is softer than pine!

      It looks like it broke because the strip of wood was cut across the grain instead of along it so the handle would have had the wood grain running 90 degrees to the length of the blade...
