My Black one was delivered on the first of March its now had its first service and has given me nothing but joy. I took the Interceptor out first and really liked it but the Gold Star being a single has so much more character. I've upgraded the shocks taken off that ridiculous thing on the handlebars and might next year get some bar end mirrors to replace those Mickley Mouse one's. Just love it.
The bike suffered because it took too long to finally come to market and there's been a lot brand snobbery. But I think it looks great and most reviews have been really positive. I'd love to see you get one.
TEC,Hitchcock's are doing parts for it so must be good & plenty of BMW 650 Funduro around still going with 100,000 plus km.I was wondering if numbers are low on purpose to keep it special & prestigious which is a marketing plan. If I got one I would be checking inside petrol cap for rust & probably put rust kill on it as soon as I got it home. A few people complained about that but isn't a major. The Tec guys had paint peel around edge of tank but I don't think every bike be like that like Re 350 Fillingham Red with Thum 👍 print the odd bike. The engine is tried & tested & last for ages.My big gripe is all the bikes should of had polished engine casings but if you want that get the Silver Sheen model & not a deal breaker.Golden Oldie got a few different bikes & has got one & loves it.The best bike is the one you're sitting on.
Morning Mr TAYM. As you know, I have done a fair few miles on the GoldStar (3 vids). I wasn’t sure on the first ride, but that might have been due to it being released in the middle of Winter, on salty, gritty, slippery roads. The second outing in much better weather, was more enjoyable, but I still didn’t think it was as good as the Interceptor. I will be taking it out again next year, but even now, looking back, I just can’t think whether I would buy one. It’s not a bad bike at all, and yes, my reviews had lots of undeserved hate comments from numpties. The only thing which spoils the looks for me, is the tarnishing on the exhaust behind the foot pegs, which can be found on all of the ones I have seen. As for the sound, as a rider, you just get air intake, so I would definitely remove the baffle ! I found the rear suspension to be plush, and certainly better than the original one fitted to the Interceptor, which were rubbish at best. Yes, it’s a good bike…..but I can’t figure whether it’s a great bike. Still haven’t seen many on the road, don’t know why. Maybe the dealer network (or lack of) has something to do with it. Nice review again.
I agree Ian I did meet a guy earlier this year who had bought one and I ask how it was , he said that he found the finish not great i.e he felt he had to polish the paintwork on the forks and other areas because it was a bit rough the chain guard was poor so he was going to change that he also mentioned the exhaust "why not a chrome one I wonder " in brief just not quite there finish wise, and he was an ex Harley owner take from that what you will 😉👍
Thanks Ian 😁 it will be interesting if they reveal any changes or a new model at the NEC 🤔 only time will tell I guess 😁 will be interesting as well to see if any owners comment on here😁
Thanks Mr TAYM. These days there aren't many big singles you can buy new and those you can are often adventure or off road bikes, so hats off to BSA for producing a bike that those who enjoy the special character a big single can ride as an everyday bike. It's interesting to watch videos and hear the opinions of those who have ridden them, but you don't get the feel and the true sound of the bike on video so I think you have to ride one yourself before making a judgement on it. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to ride one myself. Cheers, Mick
It really annoys me that we have people now complaining about the radiator!!. It has to comply with new regs. Why not also complain about the brakes being discs instead of original drums, and the fact that it doesn't leak oil and is reliable.?.. i reckon some people live in the past too much and would rather be riding the old bikes that leaked oil, had to be repaired at the side of the road and had crap brakes...i know what I'd rather ride!.. my only beef is the lack of a centre stand. Ive been riding now since 1974 and i really like most of the modern stuff. Great review once again taym.. I've watched you from the start. Cheers, A.ndy.
Cheers TAYM you’ve made me get my Legacy out of the garage 😂 Oh yes both engine cases are chromed on the legacy version 😊 The sound gets better when under revs I wouldn’t bother and not bothering to remove the baffle no need😊 It can tho alter the engine management 😮 so I believe People have to try them for themselves at the end of the day 😊😊 So many people Love it when they see it 😊😊😊 Il be out on mine shortly suns out 😊😊😊
l took one for a test ride a few months ago and loved the slow pace of life it gives you, but l also took it on a duel carriageway and was surprised at how it picked up speed when you get the revs up.
I think it’s a nice looking retro, just the position of number plate and rear light I’d criticise. The aftermarket conversion looks far better. Would make a cracking second or third bike for the garage 😊
Picked my Highland Green GS up 2 weeks ago and I really love it so far. Roads and weather has been pretty awful so I am sure I will love it even more when the weather improves. The only thing I intend to change is the rear light and number plate bracket for the TEC option.
Bike looks great. I know it's a small thing, but since I saw it on show at the National Bike Museum a year ago, I still think the indicators could be be a little more substantial. I'd swap them for the RE Classic 350 indicators, I've recently bought one for my classic. They are cheap enough. Thanks for the ride Mr TAYM. 👍
Hi TAYM , like you I was well impressed with the ride . Obvious issues with some areas of the finish but no worse in my opinion to the RE Interceptor and as an overall package I prefer the BSA.
Thanks DJ 😁 I am with you 😁 people seem to forget, this has been built to a price to make it accessible to most people, the very thing those that complain forgive Royal Enfield’s issues. 😁
I looked at these when they first came out and actually considered one, especially as Mrs PGB & I ride two up nearly all the time. Being brand new to market, with no real long-term ownership experiences to read about I gave it a wide berth until they'd settled down and become established. I was also, put off by the huge radiator and yes, I was also swayed by the slating it had received from some over it's lack of authenticity. But seeing them in the flesh again recently, my head was turned I must admit. Especially in the black which I preferred over the red. Mrs PGB said I could only have one if I had the red one so a conversation was had which inevitably came around to money and especially that we'd get a very poor part ex on the Classic 350. Now you've got me wanting again and the radiator? I hardly notice it now - isn't that weird? I'm 60 next year so...Naughty Mr TAYM 😊 😊😊 Taste: Mint humbug Smell: Smells of heavy depreciation Looks: BSA Goldstar Feel: Like a big Classic 350 Sound: Like it needs the baffles out (easy). Great to see Mr Cone looking after your various accoutrements TAYM
I like it too and enough power for sensible riding , a modern classic with a few modern tweeks which not everyone will like I’m sure but I think overall it’s a good looking machine . Thanks TAYM
If BSA of old was still around they would definitely be water cooled just like the Bonnivelle would they have a Gold Star, yes and it would look like yours 😊
I think we need to remember when being critical of machines like the bsa is the price point after all some of these faults and possibly more can be found on bikes costing double the price . Ultimately we buy and ride what we like .
Morning TAYM, I think someone's smitten with the Goldstar ? 🤔..😅😅 ..it's a good looking bike I haven't had a go on one yet but had a sit on one and that seat instantly felt more comfortable than my Interceptor that I had , I reckon if Mrs TAYM likes the pillion ,could we be seeing one in your stable? 😉 Enjoy your weekend on it , cheers 🍻
I was very lucky and rode the new BSA when the dealership first had one,( in my case bridge motorcycles Exeter) found it a really lovely bike, get up an go so good performance, wasn't won over first of with the looks but now a year on its own me over now really like the look, all in all great bike, going to the NEC bike show on the 21st so see what's new, keep up the brilliant videos young man I do enjoy them.
Hi. Maybe if it was built like a 350 reborn. Metal and beautiful details it wouldnt be to bad. But for me the rear lamp is hideous, no stand or provision for one. The engine is plastic looking . I know it may ride well but to me its just a bike with a BSA badge on it. Sorry the things people say make the RE the real thing are missing from this bike and now all of a sudden it dosent matter. Love your videos all the best.👍
Another informative video from you TAYM, like you I really like this BSA, think I will test one and then decide Intercepter or the BSA, keep up the good work 👍
They haven,t made their way down to australia yet , however ,if it only had a centrestand it would be a fine alternative to a royal enfield . Love your content Mr Taym !!!
I haven’t seen the BSA in person to have an opinion. From your reviews I think it looks great. On the top of my bike list sits the W800. I’m a Kawasaki guy. But after the W800 I’d consider quite a few other bikes and the BSA would be in that group. Not as a Winter bike though, with the chrome. It’d totally be a way-back machine for me. A Summer time loneliest road in the US, camping in the Redwoods kinda bike.
😁 yes the W800 is a lovely machine 😁 I think you make a good point actually 🤔 we are getting sort of spoilt in the mid size retro market which makes it a tough one 😁 thanks PW 😁
W800’is a great choice..would love the BSA but idk if we will get them in the states. I have a couple great Royal Enfield dealers around including Baxter Cycles so Royal gets my business
Have to agree with you, BSA Gold Star 650 is quite a nice machine especially at its price point. I know I would have one in my garage had they been available in the USA this year but sadly I have yet to see any mention of a dealer network for America let alone an ETA when bikes could arrive. I'm not confident we'll have these available even in 2024. I think with any new model, the manufacturer needs to strike while the iron's hot so to speak. I'm afraid by the time the BSA is available here, Royal Enfield will have a Classic 650 out and steal the BSA's thunder.
It is a shame they had problems with the launch and I think it's hurt them significantly which is a shame for what is a good little bike. I don't understand the complaints about it not being authentic because if you want authentic then buy the original. It's a bike for people who want the retro look and vibe without the inconvenience of running an old bike. I haven't got to ride one yet but I will try and get a go next year. If I was going to buy one I'd have to have the legacy edition with the chrome metal mudguards and silver paint.
The bike looks pretty retro except for the massive radiator which does put me off. I went to the event in Coventry about a month ago where they were promoting these bikes along with the RE 350 Meteor's. There was a Goldstar in a dark greenish blue with a sidecar which took my eye, ideal for my collie Isla to ride in.😊👍🏍
Since this bike is not available in the US I won’t comment on the bike per we as I’ve never seen it. The genre however, a retro styled modern bike, is nothing new. I like to think of bikes like this as the logical progression of originals designs. Such as the Bonneville, it could not have survived in it’s original configuration no matter how beautiful it was (is). I do understand how some are not happy with the Gold Star moniker. That was a fairly single purpose machine not designed for easy running. I had the chance around 1980 to help with getting a Gold Star recommissioned and so got up close and personal with it and riding it was a real treat. The new version does not follow the design intent of the first, though think of it, how many people riding today outside of vintage motorcycle enthusiasts have spent any time on an original Gold Star? Yet they defend the name fiercely. We’re an interesting lot we motorcyclists! Don’t get me started on Kaw’s retro Z…..
The BSA Goldstar is a welcome addition to the list of available modern classics. It is so nice to have a choice! I think that the Moto Beeline would suit it for navigation. Thanks for some good thoughts on the bike 👍👍.
I originally rated the GS at 90 with the interceptor being 100. That said its a bike you buy with your heart not your head. I came around to it and bought one, for me its the single that makes it. I also think the warning lights being so far forward makes them way easier to see than on other bikes ... I also fell for the reverse sweep comment and yes people did correct me 😂. Thanks TAYM loved this one...
I believe in just going for a ride, turn on the most inviting roads, turn away from traffic and keep the sat map in your pocket only using in when absolutely necessary to find your way back to known roads!
Good easy watching spanner video of Mars Bar working this lovely machine. There are so many bikes now you are reviewing that I like, I am getting spoilt for choice. 😊👍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍 ?
It's a pity the old Goldie has such a mystique about it because any revival of it will attract criticism. That mystique makes us tend to forget the problems of kick starting on a cold winter's day; the oil leaks; the breakdowns; the dodgy brakes etc. The RE Classic/Bullet missed out on those comparisons because it had a gradual evolution. Love to try this Goldie but will have to wait a while as the relase date here in Aus isn't even on the calender yet. Liked the ride, long time since I've been on tha road.
I must admit (with a few minor quibbles) I pretty much concur with your views. As you know I've ridden the bike twice now, and judging by the healthy viewing figures for my recent road test, interest in the bike hasn't declined at all. There are also one or two now starting to arrive on the S/H market at tempting prices. The main thing that stopped me buying one is my local dealer, but I've probably mentioned how difficult to deal with he is before. Also, you know what we bikers are like, something new comes up and we get distracted. Like the new Triumph 400, with most of the power a lot less weight and a bit less Retro. Hmmm.
I really like this bike, looks wonderful and sounds great ( Not ragged by every Tom Dick and Harry, unfortunately we dont have them here) - a smoother Bertie ( Arthur ) would be nice...lovely roads there doesnt seam like Winter has kicked in yet
the sound is good when your moving , would never know it was windy , the bike is not my style - but seems well suited to those roads , thanks for not harping on about it being british - when it's not ,, exhaust sounds fine ;;
I have seen them. What I would say is that I had a new T120 the sprung a sump leak within a week of owning it, grew rust in random places within 2 months. I had a new £15,000 Tiger that lost all electrics within 24 hours of collecting it. Royal Enfield have had racks snap on Himalayans, yokes snap and rust issues as well as paint fall off, the Classics have had assorts of problems from clocks to dodgy paint, Interceptors have had total engine failures, break issues, electrical problems and rust issues. I could go on. These things seem to happen across the board. It’s just life in the modern mass market I think. What’s important is how manufacturers and dealers respond to it. All my personal experiences were resolved quickly with apologies and with little inconvenience to myself. It would be interesting to know how other manufacturers and dealers deal with these quality control failures. Very good comment, thank you NB 😁
Still hoping that the Triumph Scrambler 400 X turns out to be as good as the hype… if so I may swap the T100 Goldline for the Scrambler as most of my riding is on Exmoor and Dartmoor… I know, sacrilege😂
The 'look' is OK but I would prefer deeper mudguarding all round and the front guard needs extending to keep muck off the radiator. The silencer is hideous and something shaped like the Interceptor's would be better although a straight forward copy of the original Goldie silencer would be best of all. I think the price is a bit high for the ancient engine. Centre stand??
Thanks B 😁 I think all those things can be said about most bikes these days. It’s just disappointing that manufacturers don’t seem to care and we keep buying them 😁
Still prefer the look of the Interceptor but the BSA is growing on me. From the reviews I’ve watched performs similarly to the Interceptor, so I reckon I could live with one. Lack of centre stand is a negative but wouldn’t be a deal breaker.
Center stand coming I think 🤔 from TEC or Hitchcock's along with other parts. Also the engine is under stressed so with the right mods pipe, air filter etc a remap or tune will unleash it.Be interesting to see what the aftermarket comes up with.
Thanks M 😁 the centre stand point really is a pain and the fact you can’t even fit one makes at quite an issue for simple home maintenance. I think I could get over it but many won’t😁
I have warmed to this one TAYM it does look nice maybe not a lot of umph but for those backroads perfect but I would prefer a T100 to be honest ,I think they need to add to the range though. At the show I think last year they had a scrambler version which did look pretty interesting but where is it ? I don't understand what they are doing really . A manufacturer surely can't survive on one model there has to be more I would think .🤔The seat looks good I reckon Mrs TAYM would be fine but it's no Rocket 😂well TAYM will one be trading buddy in for a Goldie is the question ? 😉
Like you, its the T100 for me but that doesn’t say anything bad about the BSA😁 The T100 is more money and better for it. 😁 I have no doubt that if BSA spent another 3K on it it would be a very different beast. 😁 As you might recall, there isn’t anything to compare this to really, a big single, well nothing I can think of 😁 Thanks Crumb 😁
Was just thinking, TAYM? Should I start a channel? Have a name already! TFDM. The Fine Day Motorcyclist! What do you think? Trouble is I wouldn't have anything to record until next April/May or later! 😂
sorry, My old 1980s royal enfield 350 bullet is still starting first kick and still plodding on at 300 km to the tank ,, all the bugbears have been sorted years ago and its me daily driver ,,, SOOOOO when or if it expires, I MIGHT buy an earlier bullet OR a 650 bonnie of 70s vintage ....
Excellent 😁 The one (bullet 350) Phil has at Old School Motorcycles is just marvellous 😁 In that splendid green, love it😁 That is the difference between new and old, the old ones just don’t expire, if they stop you fix them. I am not sure that can be said about any of the modern bikes🤔 Thanks BW😁
Haven't seen any in NZ 🇳🇿 yet. Marketing & Covid & lack of Dealerships.Maybe BSA is keeping numbers low to keep it prestigious & that's it's strategy to make BSA bikes in lower numbers so it's special & leave the mass production to RE & others.🤔🤔🤔.
It is a nice looking bike but, unfortunately, it’s not for me. There isn’t a dealer within 300 miles of me, the distributors seem to think that the UK stops at Glasgow and there’s nowt further north!
Thanks TP 😁 yes, network is an issue and I don’t know how they get round that🤔 they are putting a lot of effort into getting in other countries and maybe when they get where they are going with that they will go back and start to spread the dealer network 😁
I guess you get what you pay for and the only competition for the Gold Star I can see is the CCM range, which offers a better finish and a few more ponies for an extra £2,000 plus. That said even although more aesthetically pleasing, I was disappointed to learn that the CCM's don't have impeccable handling. You'd expect a bike of that size with a bespoke frame and design to shine in more than just looks. Both lack some serious pony power for me but then that's just me, perhaps I'll mellow with age as I'm not getting any younger 😂
Yes the problem with the CCM is that they are nearer 4K more at their starting price at despite a few more horses don’t manage anymore torque. They are also lacking on the practical side, especially if you want to go two up. They are marvellous bikes and sound incredible but don’t really think they are competition 😁 how did the gsx go 😁
@@TAYM Regarding the CCM's I must have seen old pricing suggesting £9,240, they've got the look but sadly not the practicality 🤔 Sadly the dealership let itself down quite badly regarding the GSX. Heading out of town in traffic I enjoyed the note of the single Beowulf can and was getting a feel for the bike. It appeared to have a bit of get up and go with not too much throttle application. My route took me along a coastal road before heading inland on a B road in some lovely scenery. I got caught in traffic and approaching a corner the bike stuttered. Realising I was in perhaps too high a gear for my speed, I changed down but still noticing pinking at lower revs. I was held back in traffic and considered an overtake but held off untill I was sure the bike had it in it. Rounding a roundabout to head back the same road, I hoped for a clearer run and a bit of fun. The spluttering became worse, even changing down gears didn't resolve it, also the steering felt heavy and the front soft. I thought perhaps the bike had layed too long and had dirty fuel or injectors. Upon return to the dealers the salesman looked up its history, basically it only went out for an MOT every year up untill 2018. Possibly the fuel had been in the bike since then? He said the mechanic would investigate and they'd get back to me. It turns out it had a bad plug and was running on three cylinders, although it was fine when they gave it a short run when it was traded in. Four new plugs and they say it's running great now. They're offering another test ride and some Michelin Road 6's should I decide to buy it, having themselves noticed heavy steering due to tyre wear ( I suspect low pressure too ( might explain the soft front end). I'll be putting a video up after editing, I'll have to try it again just to convince myself the bike isn't as bad as I thought. I was always going to buy the one I sent you photos of anyway as it has the twin exhausts and white wheels. I'm shocked that a dealer could be so lax 😟
@@greywolf9292 you would have thought they would have checked it over🙄 Orwell won’t even let you out on a bike if the tyres are out of date (who knew tyres had expiration dates) regardless of the amount of tread 😁 better look next time 😁 can’t wait to see the video 😁
@@TAYM Yes TAYM considering the bike belonged to a collector who did 200 miles p.a. for its MOT, the last of which was in 2018, the dealer's ineptitude is astounding. I myself pointed out how worn the tyres were noting they were Michelin Pilot Road 2's. I said I'd want Road 6's fitted and the black wheels powder coated white prior to purchase. They offered tyres at cost price to them, fitted free. Once I returned disgruntled, they realised the error of their ways and having fitted new plugs offered to fit Road 6's free if I bought the bike. Only for me though, any other buyer would get a cheaper alternative. It's the sort of attitude you expect from the Superbike factory, not from a main dealer who advertises every bike as " dealer serviced with parts and labour guarantee". I could've fell over when they said the fuel might have been in the bike since 2018, that in itself could cause real issues. I've bought a laptop and installed DaVinci Resolve but may resort back to my phone just to get the video out quick.
😂😂😂 thanks TBW 😁 I am always in disgrace following my reviews 😂😂 it has already started 😁😂😂😂 good job we have think skins developed from our professions 😂😂
Nice wondered how long it would take for you to take the bsa out again! Amazing people still moaning about it!! Plenty of choice out there, hope bsa release another model read they may do a electric bike. Hope mot rather a bantam 125 that would be different and if done well sell well. (think of all variants) money then reinvested to a a65 or a10 lookalike?
I'm going to open a can of worms here but its only my take on matters, the thing I don't like about it is they have tried to make it look like an original Gold Star. This is the same route that Triumph took but to a higher degree, fake monobloc carb bodies that are way too big on the Triumph that just look ridiculous & engine casings that mimic the same shape as the Meriden built models. I prefer bikes with their own identity, bikes that don't desperatly cling onto previous designs in an attempt to break into the nostalgia market. This is why I prefer the Royal Enfield models & the 650 Interceptor in particular, they were designed with their own identity they've not copied old designs in an attempt to gain favour. This is just my opinion & has nothing to do with where I earn my daily crust & bowl of gruel !
Modern retro bikes inevitablely hark back to the looks of earlier models. You can see the heritage of the Interceptor by looking at the Redditch Interceptor and Constellation. In my opinion that's a good thing.
The Triumph Bonneville range look fantastic, superb finish and detail. Of course they carry the looks of the earlier Triumphs. Modern traditional bikes that ride much better than my 1978 Bonneville did.😊
Sounds indeed like a warped disc. Probably overheated by over-enthusiastic test riders who've then sat at the lights with the front brake held on. That'll do it 🙄. We wouldn't do that though.
When I viewed it at the nec I thought it looked very cheap, unlikely to endure British weather. The bsa stand was empty. The radiator is plain ugly. I have not seen a single on the road where I live.
Built down to a price ? Is it ? I'm sure it's a worthy bike and will suit some people down to the ground , but I don't think that Gold Star is a good name for it . Road Rocket would be more appropriate . The Gold Star was a highly strung thoroughbred , this is a steady old plodder , [ not that there's anything wrong with a steady old plodder ]. I'm sure that 2wheledWillie would buy one , love it and keep it forever and never sell it . 🤣 But it doesn't do it for me , the overall chunkiness , seam on the tank and the brushed stainless exhaust [ with a condom style rim ! ] spoil the appearance . For just a little more money a person could have a Moto Guzzi V7 850 , with more power and better looks [ and it's not pretending to be anything other than what it is ] . It's a moot point anyway , as the Beeza isn't available in Canada . But I look forward to seeing if BSA come up with any more models . Like a Model J v-twin . 😍
Hi buy a nice A10 it will take you anywhere and you get that real BSA sound plus it will only ever go up in value you cant go wrong anyway have a nice christmas and a happy new year.@@TAYM
BSA yeah. Interceptor beater no, yeah. The left side is one of the ugliest bikes out there. I've seen the demo bike in Fowlers with a few miles on it and has turned into a right shed, yeah. Not for me, haw thats the truth, yeah!
The only thing that is BSA about this bike is the "name", the rest is a cheap pile of cachu produced somewhere on the Indian Sub-Continent and being sold very cheaply across the world, often ending up being bought by cheapskate sad wanabees trying to hop onto the nostalgia of a once great British marque. On top of all the jiggly hype they have even got the cheek to link it to a model that in it's day was one of the very best 350 & 500cc road bikes of the early sixties. The bike sounds more like a clapped out Singer sewing machine, nothing like the original "thumper" and unlike it's predecessor will loose it's value faster than it's top speed. As for its looks, beyond a joke, even the tank badge looks likes it was made in China and sold on AliExpress for a few rupee's........
My Black one was delivered on the first of March its now had its first service and has given me nothing but joy.
Yes, the centre stand is an issue 🤔 thanks TP 😁
Cheers TAYM you’ve made me get my Legacy out of the garage 😂
Oh yes both engine cases are chromed on the legacy version 😊
The sound gets better when under revs
I wouldn’t bother and not bothering to remove the baffle no need😊
It can tho alter the engine management 😮 so I believe
People have to try them for themselves at the end of the day 😊😊
So many people
Love it when they see it 😊😊😊
Il be out on mine shortly suns out 😊😊😊
Thanks Phil 😁 have a great ride 😁
l took one for a test ride a few months ago and loved the slow pace of life it gives you, but l also took it on a duel carriageway and was surprised at how it picked up speed when you get the revs up.
Yes, absolutely no problems on the A14 and really good fun on the twisties😁👹 thanks MP 😁
I think it’s a nice looking retro, just the position of number plate and rear light I’d criticise. The aftermarket conversion looks far better. Would make a cracking second or third bike for the garage 😊
That’s what I am thinking too 😁 thanks Ant 😁
Picked my Highland Green GS up 2 weeks ago and I really love it so far. Roads and weather has been pretty awful so I am sure I will love it even more when the weather improves. The only thing I intend to change is the rear light and number plate bracket for the TEC option.
Thanks DP 😁 I do like the sound of the tec full exhaust system 😁
Bike looks great. I know it's a small thing, but since I saw it on show at the National Bike Museum a year ago, I still think the indicators could be be a little more substantial. I'd swap them for the RE Classic 350 indicators, I've recently bought one for my classic. They are cheap enough. Thanks for the ride Mr TAYM. 👍
Thanks PW 😁 I like the size of the indicators but agree that in chrome they would be marvellous 😁
easy swap
Hi TAYM , like you I was well impressed with the ride . Obvious issues with some areas of the finish but no worse
in my opinion to the RE Interceptor and as an overall package I prefer the BSA.
I'm 60 next year so...Naughty Mr TAYM 😊 😊😊
Taste: Mint humbug
Smell: Smells of heavy depreciation
Looks: BSA Goldstar
Feel: Like a big Classic 350
Sound: Like it needs the baffles out (easy).
Great to see Mr Cone looking after your various accoutrements TAYM
😂😂😂😂 brilliant 😁 I am hanging fire at the moment until I’ve tried the new triumphs 😁 and what’s occurring at the NEC 😁 thanks PGB😁
I like it too and enough power for sensible riding , a modern classic with a few modern tweeks which not everyone will like I’m sure but I think overall it’s a good looking machine . Thanks TAYM
Thanks GCK 😁
If BSA of old was still around they would definitely be water cooled just like the Bonnivelle would they have a Gold Star, yes and it would look like yours 😊
Thanks AR 😁 I agree 😁
I think we need to remember when being critical of machines like the bsa is the price point after all some of these faults and possibly more can be found on bikes costing double the price . Ultimately we buy and ride what we like .
Absolutely 😁 It’s the very point people forgive RE for. Strange they don’t do the same for BSA 🤔 Thanks DS 😁
Enjoy your weekend on it , cheers 🍻
I am indeed, I hoped it wouldn’t show 😂😂😂 Now all I need to do is find the dosh 😁 😂😂 Thanks Mel 😁
Yes looking forward to seeing the new colours at the NEC 😁
Thanks MW 😁 I like the shape of the rear lamp, similar to the super meteor, but the centre stand issue is a real pain 😁
This bike is one of the most beautiful mechanically, I have ever seen.
Thanks H 😁
Love the looks of it, especially the black one.
But there’s still no news about them coming in to Sweden… if ever…
Hopefully they will be able to arrange a distributor 😁 thanks RB 😁
Another informative video from you TAYM, like you I really like this BSA, think I will test one and then decide Intercepter or the BSA, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks T 😁 It’s a tough decision 😁
They haven,t made their way down to australia yet , however ,if it only had a centrestand it would be a fine alternative to a royal enfield . Love your content Mr Taym !!!
Thanks JMc😁 really appreciate it 😁
I haven’t seen the BSA in person to have an opinion.
@@TAYM We are very spoilt! People are so nit picky these days.
@@pinkiewerewolf absolutely 😁
W800’is a great choice..would love the BSA but idk if we will get them in the states. I have a couple great Royal Enfield dealers around including Baxter Cycles so Royal gets my business
Great looking machine, clocks had me confused tho...easily confused me. Thanks TAYM.
😂😂😂😂 me too DT 😁😂😂
Great video. Great bike. The only people that don't like it are those that don't know what a large single cylinder bike is all about.
You might be right there 😁 thanks Joe 😁
Have to agree with you, BSA Gold Star 650 is quite a nice machine especially at its price point. I know I would have one in my garage had they been available in the USA this year but sadly I have yet to see any mention of a dealer network for America let alone an ETA when bikes could arrive. I'm not confident we'll have these available even in 2024. I think with any new model, the manufacturer needs to strike while the iron's hot so to speak. I'm afraid by the time the BSA is available here, Royal Enfield will have a Classic 650 out and steal the BSA's thunder.
I hope you are wrong but suspect you might be right 😁 which will be a shame 😁 thanks SW 😁
Thanks Mike 😁 I have a feeling that the chrome mudguards are in fact plastic 🤔 you know, like chrome indicators 😁 which is disappointing if true 😁
The bike looks pretty retro except for the massive radiator which does put me off. I went to the event in Coventry about a month ago where they were promoting these bikes along with the RE 350 Meteor's. There was a Goldstar in a dark greenish blue with a sidecar which took my eye, ideal for my collie Isla to ride in.😊👍🏍
😂😂😁 thanks JI 😁
Absolutely brilliant comment 😁 funnily, I had this very conversation with my brother this afternoon 😁 thanks JW 😁
Great review, m8. I reckon I would buy one if they ever came to NZ.
Wonder if they come to NZ 🇳🇿?
Thanks IT 😁
I like the BSA! Would love to see one in real life! I think you should add one to your stable Taym of the wallet allows it! 🎉
That would be good 😁 thanks Lilian 😁
The BSA Goldstar is a welcome addition to the list of available modern classics. It is so nice to have a choice! I think that the Moto Beeline would suit it for navigation. Thanks for some good thoughts on the bike 👍👍.
Thanks GBD 😁
I originally rated the GS at 90 with the interceptor being 100. That said its a bike you buy with your heart not your head. I came around to it and bought one, for me its the single that makes it. I also think the warning lights being so far forward makes them way easier to see than on other bikes ... I also fell for the reverse sweep comment and yes people did correct me 😂. Thanks TAYM loved this one...
Thanks MM 😁 they are just a lovely bike to ride, least I think so. I just don’t get the hate🤔
I believe in just going for a ride, turn on the most inviting roads, turn away from traffic and keep the sat map in your pocket only using in when absolutely necessary to find your way back to known roads!
Thanks RT 😁 Waze can be quite good for warning you about speed traps and also lets you know about the accuracy of your Speedo 😁
it is tempting and so is the scrambler .
Thanks MrEd😁 yes, that’s something I am looking forward too 😁
Beautiful these modern Classics! never been a better time to enjoy 2 wheels, praying for an A10 come on BSA you can make one.
Thank would be nice 😁
Morning Taym your going to be impressed when you see the 400s.
Cant wait 😁 its the only thing stopping me putting my money where my mouth is on the BSA 😁

Spot on, thanks CH 😁
I must admit (with a few minor quibbles) I pretty much concur with your views. As you know I've ridden the bike twice now, and judging by the healthy viewing figures for my recent road test, interest in the bike hasn't declined at all. There are also one or two now starting to arrive on the S/H market at tempting prices. The main thing that stopped me buying one is my local dealer, but I've probably mentioned how difficult to deal with he is before. Also, you know what we bikers are like, something new comes up and we get distracted. Like the new Triumph 400, with most of the power a lot less weight and a bit less Retro. Hmmm.
Thanks CMD 😁 We are spoilt for mid size bikes at the moment 😁
I really like this bike, looks wonderful and sounds great ( Not ragged by every Tom Dick and Harry, unfortunately we dont have them here) - a smoother Bertie ( Arthur ) would be nice...lovely roads there doesnt seam like Winter has kicked in yet
Thanks Tom 😁 at the time of filming winter was yet here 😁😂😂
Sounds good to me and like you I like the clocks because they are a bit different and I like bit different, great bike👍
Thanks MsD 😁 where are you with your own biking story😁 this would have been a good bike for you 😁
The clocks mimic the original Goldie clocks, starting at the one'oclock position.
Good looking bike TAYM, sounds nice too. So which bike will you lose if you buy the BSA or will Mrs TAYM stand for another bike in the stable?😎
😂😂😂😂 can’t lose any 😁 I will have to find another way 😁 thanks SD😁
the sound is good when your moving , would never know it was windy , the bike is not my style - but seems well suited to those roads , thanks for not harping on about it being british - when it's not ,, exhaust sounds fine ;;
Thanks SG 😁
Have you seen TEC bike part review? They've had paint falling off the tank issues and poor support. Could be a one off.
Yes, the 400 triumphs 😁 can’t wait 😁
That would be marvellous, never knew that 😁
I have warmed to this one TAYM it does look nice maybe not a lot of umph but for those backroads perfect but I would prefer a T100 to be honest ,I think they need to add to the range though.
@@TAYM Absolutely 👍

Could be 🤔 though they continue to spread around the globe 😁 thanks RR 😁
My only concern is the mess of hoses and wiring on the left side of the Bikes!
Nice bike, great to have the choice to own a 650 single. I think most of the criticism comes from RE owners😂🤣

Thanks KH 😁 yes, I think that’s the problem, there are no bad bikes just different bikes 😁 I would love any of them 😁
It is a nice looking bike but, unfortunately, it’s not for me.
Rotax built engine i believe, so reliability should be good.
Yes, and with good service intervals 😁 thanks Mike 😁
The Clocks are reminiscent of the Chronometrics.
🤔 they are 😁 thanks SG 😁
@@greywolf9292 I keep doing things like that 😁 the phone is so easy 😂😂😂😂 ridiculous isn’t it 😁

Modern traditional bikes that ride much better than my 1978 Bonneville did.😊
Absolutely 😁
Okay I see your point, don’t buy one then.
Sounds indeed like a warped disc. Probably overheated by over-enthusiastic test riders who've then sat at the lights with the front brake held on. That'll do it 🙄. We wouldn't do that though.
It cleared after a while so don’t know 🤔 thanks PGB 😁
When I viewed it at the nec I thought it looked very cheap, unlikely to endure British weather. The bsa stand was empty. The radiator is plain ugly. I have not seen a single on the road where I live.
They are definitely thin on the ground 😁 thanks Volt 😁
Built down to a price ? Is it ? I'm sure it's a worthy bike and will suit some people down to the ground , but I don't think that Gold Star is a good name for it . Road Rocket would be more appropriate . The Gold Star was a highly strung thoroughbred , this is a steady old plodder , [ not that there's anything wrong with a steady old plodder ].
I'm sure that 2wheledWillie would buy one , love it and keep it forever and never sell it . 🤣
But it doesn't do it for me , the overall chunkiness , seam on the tank and the brushed stainless exhaust [ with a condom style rim !
The Road Rocket was a 650 twin. Nothing wrong with 'Gold Star' for a single ⭐️

Interesting 🤔 have you ridden one😁 thanks AF😁
