  • This episode is quite unique as it features *5* contestants playing off against each other in this 1st Game of the finals for the 21st Birthday Challenge series aired back in 2001 (which ended up being the last season for the show). The entire series (5 heats and 2 days for the finals) featured 20 champs representing each of the years of which "Sale" had been on air in Australia (1980 onwards). A classy, intelligent and engaging game show - I wish they could bring it back again.

I thought four was enough to play in a single show, but this is crazy. Three is enough for me, thank you very much.

Wow, I never thought I would ever see this. I still wouldn't mind seeing The Masters tournament of the late 90s which had seven contestants per episode.

Also, I see they replace the "CAR" with "BONUS SPIN" on these special weeks during the "New Century" era.

Yeah. BTW, from what I've read, the Australian/American challenge had the preliminaries consisting of four 3-player heats, followed by a 4-player match to determine the two members for each team (Australia for the first week, America for the second week).

This is really cool. I do like these "best of the best" shows that Sale and Temptation did. Any chance that you would have the grand final??

Yeah, five (or even seven) players on one show is crazy (or downright insane). Three is enough for the normal episodes, while four is okay for specials (whether involving celebrities, former champions, or even two teams of two).

At 21:05, Vince chooses Sarah Jessica Parker, and the host mentions she's from "Friends." I thought that show was popular in Australia, but not so much I guess. She's from "Sex and the City."

I just watched that part. Yeah, he definitely slipped up, but he did say it correctly at the start of the show. I think it's because Schwimmer was also on there.

FIVE PLAYERS??? OMG too many players!
Games work best with three players, but four is tolerable, but please do not eliminate anybody during the main game. Also, I wish a home console version will be available someday so I can play this...

Having the two teams of two was okay, but I'll bet it took a little getting used to for the two American players in the Australia/USA Challenge in 1985.

Five playing "Sale" in a single show? That's insane. SEVEN in one show? That's BEYOND insane!
BTW, can anyone give me info on David, Len, and Steve? I know about Vincent and Andrew (the first-ever Lot winner and the 16-year-old who won the Lot during the Bicentennial year, respectively).

      What I know:
      * Len Keating won in either 1994 or 1995; he'd played against Cary Young in the "Masters" finals in 1997 (Cary winning that time)
      * David Perglia won the lot in mid-1985; I don't think he did any tournament appearances
      * Steve I don't know much about; there might be a bit of information in the 5th heat
