- I'm am no longer going to even try to build massive GPU Mining Rigs over 12 GPUs. Best to stay with 6 or 8 GPU Mining Rigs as it will be a lot easier to manage. It's a lot of fun though to try but I don't recommend it for everyone, unless you're crazy like me.

i love how you keep me updated with whats going on in the mining world! thanks for the uploads
Thanks for the video! I am very new to mining and have been using the standard PC motherboards. My personal preference is 6 GPUs per frame. That makes it easier to move around and to get to all the individual parts. Plus, you don't need extra long cables/wires to reach the GPUs. Keep up the great work!
Bought an old HP desktop of some random guy on the marketplace for $42, used the ram , proc and mobo. Put everything else up for sale and created an 8 GPU mining rig. Why would you spend so much for a mining mobo... Thanks for the video mate, always great to watch.
Because a lot of people don't have budget building skills or they are afraid to buy something second hand.
As you said each their own! thanks for your input and expierence RPM! I like the MSI Motherboards that are 8 GPU Expandable seem to always be solid
Thank you for the great video! Always cool to see all the experiments and builds you have done over time. I couldn't get into mining, just to mine, as I wasn't sure how long I would do this for. So all of my parts are regular PC parts. Yes, it is more efficient to have server power supplies and open air mining boards and frames. However, it is a much easier sell to friends and families if you have your rigs built out of regular ATX cases with much less noise. It has been a lot of fun to build these rigs (none of mine have more than 4 cards, due to case space) and it is awesome that people don't know what is going on in my Full Tower in the living room lol.
That's good thinkin to get other involved ;) cheers
My experience with building a mining rig that had over 8 video cards was similar in that the amount of labor and time to maintain was higher than building a rig with 6 or less cards. The trouble shooting was taking too much time. The number of times that you find out a simple loose cable or card software reset is the problem causes you anguish.
I love your videos, you have teach me so mutch this year :-). I built one mining rig with Asrock h110 pro btc+ now it have 13 gpu`s and has been running perfectly for 9 month`s now
Ive been building my rigs with 4-6 cards so I can plug them in all over the house and not trip the breakers. Super easy to set-up. Eventually I hope to put them all in two rigs with AMD/Nvidia
Haha I had to do the same thing. Then I finally just put a 220V 30amp breaker in the electrical panel. Now all my rigs run on one 220v circuit. I was nervous doing that since I never wired a new breaker before. But it was super easy after watching some youtube videos.
Red Panda!! Love the video. Im trying to push past 9 GPUs on one of my rigs to get to 12!! If ever your getting rid of those mining mobos, Ill gladly buy one off you! :) should do the trick for 12 GPUs (not planning to go over that) and would make great content for my channel! Cheers from the East Coast of Canada!
You can push to 14 gpu
make it 16
We appreciate the effort RPM! For real I have an 11 GPU rig and that that was PLENTY of hassle ha.
1:53 Wow, I'm also looking forward getting the most of my 16X pci-e port, and I was looking exactly at those riser.
They are quite expensive, I'd be happy to get your impression on those, once you get them.
Thanks for the video!
I don't know what to get for my next rig. I bought a ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ 13GPU MB and it won't boot if a card is in these two specific PCI-E slots. I then went with a riserless motherboard, but the PSU is screaming loud.
bios updated? (h110)
Even with a riserless motherboard, i recommend you to use risers, as the GPU's are way too close and can't get the air out. (I'm using btc 37 with risers for half GPUS
I had the same issue, but it was resolved with resetting the bios. After the bios reset i just connected 12 gpus and it boot up right away
Not sure what GPUs you have, keep in mind this board only supports up to 8 AMD+5 Nvidia cards, or else wont even boot to bios
I had to update bios, use some RUclipsr's bios settings, and make sure that ONLY ONE DDR4 RAM slot was used, not two.
I was thinking 6 to 8 of the more power hungry cards or 12 of the 120 watt or less types in one rig, planning future builds.
Glad you made this video, I feel validated.
very informative and helpful, thank you Red Panda, I have learned lots of things from you. You're awesome.
Granted, I've always been low scale here so I am stuck with these rig sizes anyway, but I always liked 5-6 cards per rig. I've been slumming the last 3 years with old AMD APU boards that let me do this. lol. With 12+ cards, you have 12+ points of failure that can take it offline which likely leads to less productivity in the long run as its more difficult to troubleshoot. That and power requirements they need and heat they generate. Thanks for the video Red Panda!
I am not looking your videos so often as in the beginning, but i notice that you are moving slow in the right spot, i mean, you are doing what i learn a couple months before, almost a year ago, i thought you were not doing it just for the show, but eventually i can see that is not the case, good for you! regards!
I think it's the same principle as when you use a 1 to 4 usb adapter. On my 570 board the adapter will only register on a full PCIE slot not a 1x. If you can find a board with 3x 16x PCIEs plus 1x slots you may be able to get over that 13 restriction
another advantage of smaller 6-8 GPU builds is you may be able to support them on a standard highend PSU if you balance the power available. Plus smaller miners could use 15A circuits before going hardcore and getting 30A ones. Not to mention it reduces the spaghetti factor for cabling and troubleshooting.
Thank you to try for me that absolutely sure I think build the rig with 6 GPU and then move to build next rig. That will help manage the risk of some mistake. When 1 rig shutdown , we still have another rig still running.
i'm still building my first 6 gpu mining rig. need 3 more gpu's to fill it up. was considering trying to stack more on top but now i think i'll just build more 6 gpu rigs cause im a total noob with these things lol
Thank you for this video!! I was going to purchase one of those huge mobo! Since I'm a newbie on building a mining rig, but not computers, I feel you are correct on a few GPUs vs Multiple GPUs. I'll stick with my first idea and stay with the smaller mobo and do 6-8 GPU or so. Your videos are always very knowledgeable and has a lot of information. Thanks and keep up with the work.
Do you think when we finally have a mix of NVidia, AMD, and Intel GPUs we will be able to use these multiple PCIe boards working to capacity?
After wasting countless hours on troubleshooting large rigs, I switched everything to 6-8 gpu's per rig at the beginning of 2020, and will never go back. The rigs are much more stable, and can be built in 20 mins as opposed to several hours.
My AMD 520 from gigabyte comes with 3 pcie slots, will I be able to use at least 6 with a pcie splitter 1 to 4 ?
I agree especially with Gigabyte mobos stable as a rock :D
Did you try chinese no name 12 gpu boards? They are made for mining and dont require not even getting into bios. Its all set.
My Asrock h110 pro btc+ is my most stable rig (got 6 of them). Only running 11 GPUs on it, but still, never crashes. The 5 rest are gaming motherboards that also works fine, but not as stable as the h110.
I totally agree with you, I have a 19 pci asus...never worked properly
question: is it safe to use all the usb slots from the one-in-four connector? does it not get hot?
would love to try one of those boards, i am useing the msi x470 board it can be a bit of a pain, the pci slots seem to go dingy with no apparent reason, always great content regards
Yep, after my last couple of 12 gpu mobos died on me, I minimized down last year. The worst is when you start mixing gpus on one of these. It can be a nightmare with all the OC settings. The worst is if one is having issue which can result in downtime for 12 gpus instead of just 6 for a smaller rig. I would only recommend huge rigs like this if you have 1-2 exact same models for simplicity sake.
Hi panda! I’m using the msi z390 gaming plus, work like a champ!
Hello brother , Nice video as always , are you saying it is always better and more economical to stay on 6 gpu than trying to make it 12 gpu ?
My motherboard MSI B560M pro-vdh , is it okay to put 2-3 gpu's.? Thanks for an answer.. Im planning to mine my PC..😃😃
If I want to build a rig for mining but also want to use from time to time my unit for gaming and other things, is there a cpu and motherboard option that is better than what you have listed?
For my last rig, i bought a riserless mobo. A btc-t37 8gpu i like t eo far...only 4 gpus on it now (pcie spacing) but may use risers for more to keep them apart..
My first motherboard (MSI B450 GP) is capped at 4 graphics cards no matter what (BIOS gen 4g blahblah, splitters) and I've narrowed it down to PCIE limitations - the one you showed the B460 chipset also says there are 16 pcie lanes per chipset - if it can only split in the bios as a 4x4 then how does this work with 6 graphics cards? Or is this just an issue/thing with the new cards.
Like I really wish there was a LIST of motherboards that have been tried and tested to support more than 4 or what have you.
Does anyone know what can be done about insanely loud psu fans? My new one in my server case screams under no load it must be on max speed for some reason
Hey RPM, i have a TB360-BTC pro with a I9-9900 cpu (i ordered a I5 but amazon upgraded me for free) and i have a mix of 1070x6, 2060, 3070x2 nonLHR and 3060x3 V2 making 420mhs at 1200w and its killing it. no problems yet.
Keep up the great vids!!!
I agree about building simpler rigs with 6 GPU's? I found them a lot easier to manage and troubleshoot. Can you suggest any 'normal' motherboards that work great for 6 GPU rigs? Great content as always!
I tend to agree with you on adding a large number of GPU's to one machine, it can be a real pain when problems develop. I suppose though if you have a large farm
it can pay off, for folks such as myself who have small farms it seems better to break the farm in to smaller pieces, such as 2 6 card GPU rigs vs 1 12 card rig.
This way if you have a PSU, mobo or other problem you will still have at least half of your farm mining.
I’m saving so much money on mining equipment, the only draw back is it requires more space. My cards runs cooler because they are more spread out. Also, if a hardware/software failure happens, it’s only affecting 1 or 2 cards at a time.
I'm using the ASUS b250 mining expert board and i have 18 3080s on it and it is working flawlessly but Amd cards do not work what so ever
I have an msi z97 krait Mobo. It has 5 slots. I bought a pcie x4 splitter. It won't boot with the 7th gpu pluged in. Is there a bios setting to fix that? Works with 6 perfectly fine
What do you think about BTS S37 kind of motherboard. I have one and I'm struggle to have it work with 3x6700 1x3070 non lhr and a 3090fe. Without the 3090 works fine, but with it keeps crashing.
there is a setting on some bios for splitting the 16x pcie to 4x 4x 4x 4x pcie. might have to change that setting
Did you add all the pci adpaters to the motherboard manually , the link shows less I just want to clarify because I would need a tutorial how to add that on top of the motherboards. Let me know
Thanks so much bro l was really in need of such information
any reccomendation for the motherboard now ? my budget is around 100-300 usd , gonna run 2 rtx3090 for starters
Hi,
I need you opinion .
I have MSI Z390 - A PRO and the motherboard can't register more then 4 gpu 3080 is.
I unable 4g decoding but not lucky.
If I go with 580 is the board register 5 but not 6.
What do you think?
Hello! Isn't there a limitation with 13x Nvidia cards? I may be wrong but I knew some mining motherboard wanted a mix of AMD & Nvidia cards to get all to work?
Ditto! Great video Red Panda.
Would you be able to run the 24 GPUs on a earlier edition of windows ?
I'm having trouble getting windows to recognize more than 8 GPUs on my biostar tb360-btc pro 2.0. I haven't been able to figure it out yet :(
I really like the Prime z390P and z490P they have become my go to boards, running 10x 3070 with a pcie riser adaptor and an m.2 adaptor on HiveOS
Had all kinds of trouble with the FinTech boards. Had ordered 3, 1 DOA, 1 crashed and dies during a BIOS update plus had to do some fenagling in the bios to get more then 6 cards to work.
I recently bought one of the gig. boards. still prett new to mining, so i didint know all the stuff you said about the dedicated mining cards only working on the big boards. Im glad i didnt go that direction. But anyways, the gig. board works great with 12 reg. cards. The set up was PNP, (bought it used) and have had no issues the month its been hashing.
Will the setup in the description work good with 3080 . Or what card do you suggest. And will this mine Bitcoin and other coins
Hey. I got an Asus B250 Mining Expert, in 2019, new in the shop for 50 euro. It was a sale they were getting rid of it I think. I'm not regret. Just with 3 gpu so far. Thank you for this video. It enlight me with some questions I had about how and if it was possible to get 19 gpu running here.
Have multiple h110s running with 13 gpus. The boards are very twitchy with power management and I’ve even gad some with short circuiting components on them.
Don’t use the additional molex and sata power , you do not need them with powered risers .
Obey the slot ordering . Start with the x16. Failure to do so can blow the board or kill slots .
Install one card at a time . They will take longer and longer to install as you add more cards.
Do not cross connect the risers and gpu from different psus . Same psu for card and riser .
Do not split psus across different phases on the same rig.
The new Q270 seems to be much more robust .
Hey red Panda, love your content dude. What mobo would you recommend for 12 x Radeon 6800xt's?
@Red Panda Mining you should try to get some 6600xt to work on the b250 mining expert. I cannot seem to get 6000 series amd to work on it. Wondering if you had any ideas or possibly a future video.
Flash bios
@@thomasdriskill5254 i did...is there a version u r recommending to try?
I'm not sure sorry. Maybe try raveos works better for me then hiveos or windows. I only have h510 pro BTC board works great only 6 pcie slots
@@thomasdriskill5254@Red Panda Mining i did peek online and this seems to be a software compatibility issue with the board and im not the only person with the problem. Some people claim they fixed by enabling csm but that did not work for me. Im assuming it needs a bios update but the only recent bios release is in beta and im always afraid of beta bios for stability if not damaging the board.
Hello m8 are u able to check for us motherboard which I can use 32 gpus in one rig on one motherboard? I read somewhere that x99 deluxe can do 40 gpus using 5 pcie x16 , and 5 1 to 8 splitters?
Target is run 32 or more gpus on a single motherboard.
I build 8gpu rigs with btc-s37 Amazon boards less than 300 to get running just add gpu's. I'm at 48 gpu's and still adding when I find deals. I normally run 4 cards on the board and 4 on risers for better airflow.
Hi red just a small question i've been seaching for graphic cards a while now and wanted to ask if you know where its possible to find a good ones cheap. I mean I only need one. I want to start small and put the one in my pc and mine meanwhile my pc is active. Now my problem is I turned 20 had to quit school and my part time job because I got injured in april and its still not other for me. The cards are pretty expensive even cards msrp around 300 cost over 1000 (ebay and other sites) and its hard to afford on. just would like to have a small income so that I can start doing something fun again and maybe start mining like 1 euro per day or so. I only have an old 1060 in my pc but because I would like to play I cant use it really
regards Benny
I would really like to build a 12 GPU 3060ti build as my next build, but am planning on putting it in a server case. The. Only big cases I can find that will take 12 and you don’t have to buy the cases in bulk are minebox 12’s. Any other suggestions? They seem like good cases but I’m jw.
Thanks for putting it out there so other new comers to crypto mining won’t go hunting down mining motherboard to make 12 gpu or more rig when it’s easier to setup a 6gpu rig
early. love the content RPM keep it up!
Hi, I have a Dell, t5610 with a 2 cpu, and a Quatro t4000 gpu, what mining software would you use, noob here..?
3:10.. can it work with 16 normal GPUs?? you said you need the mining specifically cards to use 19
I'm still learning how to get 6 RX 6000 series cards working on a Z390-P rig. Stability while mining is the issue, though it can boot into Windows fine.
My Asus B250 mining expert is working great with 14 x RX480's & 1 x P series. Just having problems getting more than 15 with Hiveos. More will boot & display fine in the GUI but when you start the miner you get memory segmentation faults and such.
One of my rigs is H110 Pro BTC+, it works perfectly with 13 x 1660s on 2000w mining PSU, and shockingly it worked fine from first day, without any troubles at all.
There is like 12/13 GPU(graphical video adapter) limit in the cpu/chipset architecture.
The reason you got like 19 working is because some of those mining specific cards are treated as something else, idk like computational module, and so you're able to get those going along 13 normal GPUs.
That would mean you should be able to replicate this 19 GPU setup on this threadripper mobo with all those splitters as long as you use same number/type of GPUs (max 12 generic gpus and 7 mining specific?).
Because at the end, those mining mobos are generic CPUs/chipsets with built in splitters (or more profesionally - onboard pcie packet switch IC).
Hello what would you reccommed for a motherboard for a 12-13 gpu rig im looking on ebay this is my second rig and i went with a Asrock Q270 PRO BTC+ but I see all these 12 port usb boards for pcie but much less is it a bad options to go with on of these
@@RECKLESSxZOMBIE These days all mobos for sale are ok.
I've got some Chinese B250C from ali with 12 USB ports and it works fine, it was like $90, it's not even branded.
I only do 6-8 card rigs. My first ever rig I tried for days to get more than 8 and it would crash on startup everytime. I haven’t even tried since then, too frustrating.
Saving people from unnecessary headaches and wasting time/money... Great content! Ty.
I have never used those boards before. I use a couple H110 pro BTC boards and I have been liking them a lot. I never tried to build larger than a 9gpu rig though. Watching this I will probably never buy one of those boards.
Running a H110 Pro BTC+ with 12 cards on Hive, only issue I have is the cpu will hang when running updates with reboot commands at the same time and occasional auto fan issues. Otherwise solid
I am a newbie. Just got a six card rig to work with a msi z390 a pro motherboard. Two rx6800xt and 4 rx6600xt cards but probably was adding them over time not all at once. No problem with 3 card but when I added more there was a lot more trouble shooting. To it’s not worth the time going more than six maybe eight cards per rig.
Hi, expert. Can you help me, please?I have a Radeon VII card on ASUS B250H with a lot of invalid shares about 5 shares per hour even at None OC settings running 86MH/s at B mode of Teamredminer on 0.6-205@20210715 version of HiveOS. Can you help me to fix this?
I bought the msi board and 8 580s a year agp and when I saw in the instructions that I needed the minining specific cards I felt a bit scammed but I keeped the board because for that price at that moment I couldn't get any other board for 12 gpus.
I can't get the gigabyte 12 gpu board to boot with more than 11 cards no matter what I do
Nice 😎 thanks alot for your explanation.. Good job..
I got my B250 Fintech two years ago for under $30. Micro center had about 15. Should’ve stocked up on them
Hi RPM, I am currently rocking a gigabyte h110m-a for one fo my rigs with 2 pcie usb splitters and I have 7 cards on it. ( it won't take 8). I am interesting in testing out one of those mining motherboard some day but for now, I am sticking with cheap motherboards (I got some for free) and usb splitters when necessary lol! rocking a Core 2 quad q8300 with 2 3070tis on it lol!
never bought a mining specific mother board. Just made do with what I have. Running 8 gpus on a 13 year only gigabyte ep45-ud3p with one 4x pcie splitter. It still runs just fine to this day. Got 8 gpu's crammed onto an asus prime b550m-a (wifi) with the use of 2 m.2 adapters and a 4 x pcie splitter. They hash just fine. No need to spend loads of money on mining specific gpus.
Then again, I'm just a n00b who only started mining in February 2021.
Haven't used any yet RP, but your experience was invaluable advice and letting me know what I should be looking for and I will be watching many more as I get closer to mining. on previous vids ASICS vs GPU's, another good one recently about Merge......ASICS beginning 2020 were cheap as, I'm sure they will be cheap again I'm thinking, soonish/months. I settin up a GPU for sure, there will many coins being utilised, so checking out longevity and utility and network activity before I choose the coin I I want to mine. This is my plan May 22 onwards. Cheers mate, love ya work as always, you and Vosk are my go to, your the hardware GURU hahahah many more vids to go back and watch specifically, so till next time🍻
How do you get all your cards. I'm a new miner and only running a 1660s and a 3080 ti getting 120mh. I'm trying to build a 6 card setup, but it's so hard finding cards.
eBay or stockx
@@thomasdriskill5254 I'll try stockx. I snagged my 3080 ti at an in store best buy drop. Trying to find a bulk buy for matching cards.
Thank you RPM! yaaa the mining specific stuff is soo $$$ and as you said not worth it right now when you can buy a cheaper motherboard and do 6-8 cards and it works just fine for over 1/2 or more less in price.
Totally agree on all mobos you showed... I've started with the BTC-S37 china-made mobos that has 8 embedded full x16 slots, so the GPUs were connected directly without risers and cables on a 2U rig frame that on good ventilated/ar conditioned rooms, works pretty fine.
Then when moved to big rigs, I opted for the BTC-B250C which has 12 embedded x1 USB connectos, so no need to get the multiplier connector, just plug the usb directly to it and hold the GPUs on the wire shelf as usually.
These working with 3060ti, 3070ti, 3080ti and 3090 are working truly fine, 24x7, with 3200w and 2600w power supplies.
I bought a "B250C BTC 12P PCI Express DDR4 Computer Mining Motherboard for LGA1151 Gen6/7" and is been doing great!
Why whats the problem? Running askrock h110 and asus b250 board for years and years now with 13 cards no issues.
Only asrock has become a litle bit more unreliable with the new cards but nothing that a good biosupdate doesnt fix
I would gladly take any one of those boards ..I mean if your gonna toss it ,,lol.. much love brother!!!
My favorite mobo is MSI x470, it can work with any AM4 Ryzen and up to 7 GPUs. Easy, cheap and fast to build plus easy maintenance. Also it will be lot easier to re-selll later on
Aren 't you still running several Asrock H110 Pro BTC+ mobos? You showed them in your last farm tour video.
I really want to know where to buy pci-e cables 6 to 8 in EUROPE, i only

I’ve been trying to have multiple gpu on an old Core2duo mITX Zotac motherboard with a 4 pcie splitter, but it was not successful. I think I’m gonna mine with only one gpu on it…
I'll probably not have a chance til the shortage ends but I believe I remember someone having an issue with 10+ gpu rigs even prebuilt ready for gpu rigs seem to have issues with 11 or more GPU's. Hopefully one day I'll have this problem. Lol

@@FreeStyleBoyy you have 16 Pci lanes. So you should be able to power 14-16 cards. You will have to run off PEG and turn of IGD to access all 16
@@redsplayhouse2105 thank you very much you gave me hope i will check how to run off PEG!
I've been able to get two sets of Z170 boards with i5-7600k CPU's for less than 100$ each. I feel like it's being slept on, even though you can get 7 GPU's running easily, and probably more with one of those 1x to 4x USB 3.0 adapters.
Great content as usual, BTW
Agreed. The MSI Z170a M7 version even has onboard start/reset buttons. Can get 12 Gpu with two m.2 adapters and one 1 to 4 adapter - OR- one 1x6 usb adapter using a i3-6100 cpu. Works great with a Dell DP2400 server PSU.
Still love my B250 I run 8 to 10 cards without any problems. It's my combo rig. It will run 13 without having the older mining Specific cards. I run everything from old 1080ti to 3090 cards on it .
Running a 2000 and 1000 for power.
I agree, I had two TB360 BTC Pro's running 12 3080's each and I was always fighting heat. I had these in 12 gpu mining frames and the gpu's would run hot. They were just to close to each other...about 2.5" from fan to back plate. I bought a cheep intel mobo and cpu with a 4 to 1 pci adapter and made 3 rigs with 8 3080's. I now have no more heat issue's as they are about 5" apart and are hashing at 99+ mhs each. Setting up was the easy part, the daily fight of crashing was a real pain in the arse.
Hi , which motherboard did you use for the project?
@@tobor1162 Biostar TB360-BTC PRO 2.0 i7/i5/i3 LGA1151 Intel B360 DDR4 12 GPU Mining I think, only $350AU or $280US approx, cool
i have a plan for a 60,000$ 3 motherboard 18 gpu rig. currently working it out
the usb riser card works in x1 fine. so you could habe 12 gpu´s on the small board
