One misconception about Orlando, Florida is Disney World is in Orlando. It's actually 23 miles southwest of Orlando. It's really in the City of Lake Buena Vista, which is in two counties, Orange and Osceola.
One misconception about Miami is it's the largest city in Florida. While the Miami's Metropolitan area is the largest, the city itself is only 2nd in population to Jacksonville, in the North East corner of Florida. The reason being is the city limits covers most of Duval County making it the biggest city in the contiguos United States in land area at 874.3 square miles, while Miami 56.07 and New York City is 469. This is why Jacksonville's population is 985,843 and Miami is 455,924, while Jacksonville's metropolitan population is 1,713,240 and Miami's is 6,183,199.
Chicago got the nickname Windy City due to the long-windedness of our politicians. The term filibuster was actually coined in Springfield, Illinois and that was also due to the long-winded politicians.
3:38 Cape Town actually is the capital of South Africa, or at least, one of its capitals, as it is the seat of South Africa's Parliament. One could even argue that Johannesburg should also be considered a capital nowadays since the Constitutional Court was established there, and major judicial power was stripped from the courts that sit in Bloemfontein.
Miami, Florida has several misconceptions, many due to movies and television. The Bad Boys films and Transporter 2 showed off a giant "Miami" sign in the style of the Hollywood sign in LA on the edge of Miami International Airport. The sign only exists in those movies. Several different works also feature different bridges in the city as the route to the Keys, such as the recent show "Bad Monkey" using Rickenbacker Causeway that connects Miami to Key Biscayne in several shots. Key Largo, one of the first major keys, is about 60 miles south of the city and an hour and a half away by car, and Key West is almost 4 hours away.
A misconception about Seattle is that the Space Needle is 1. the city's tallest building (not even close) and 2. downtown (it's about a mile or two north). It's actually pretty hard to take a picture of the Needle *and* downtown together, except for from one specific city park where almost all such photos are taken from. Also, fictional portrayals of it often show its supports being made of concrete, but they're actually made of huge beams of steel bolted together.
That reminds me of another Seattle misconception I've heard before, though, I might be wrong. It's not as rainy as people think. Yes, it's very rainy, but it's more days of steady, lighter rain compared to other cities' fewer days of heavier rainfall, which actually totals more precipitation than Seattle.
@@erikallen863 It's often a light misty rain, or a drizzle. You'll survive just fine without an umbrella, albeit damp. The sub-tropics I grew up in...Brisbane Australia, you're bone deep drenched with rain coming at you sideways. Both cities rain about the same, Seattle is kind enough to spread it over 9 months of the year instead of drowning you in 30 days.
The name of Canberra is stressed on the first syllable. The unstressed second syllable contains a schwa. So it's "CAN-bə-rə", leaning towards "CAN-brə".
St Stephen's Tower is actually the one over the public entrance to the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament), not the clock tower. St Stephen's Chapel, on that part of the site, served as the House of Commons until it mostly burnt down in the 1830's.
The Hunchback of Notradam was written to help save the historic church and it definitely helped. The Effil Tower was built for a World's Fair and was ment to be taken down afterwards.
Belmopan Belize is another example of a smaller, recent, inland capital. Belize City is much larger, and was the capital until a hurricane caused the heart of government to be relocated inland
This also led to a con artist managing to "sell" the tower for scrap metal twice since there were persistent debates about tearing it down for scrap. He would have "sold" it a third time but that was when he was finally caught and arrested.
It really is the 90s turn for the comeback, as the 80s comeback is facing away. Colorful, patchy big shirts and denims are accepted now. Overalls, or "bibs," are being seen more and more. In the 90s, it was cool to have one shoulder strap unhooked.
4:38- decades? Try centuries, there were discussions and plans both in the Portuguese royal government and later the Brazilian Imperial government to move the capital to a more centralized location.
I spent a great deal with my childhood in a city 50 miles west of Chicago. Let me assure you, when that wind comes whipping down that plain, you are not happy. The storms were also just unbelievable conflagrations of thunder and lightning and rain. We also had multiple tornado watches and warnings every year. As children, we would know when the sky turned that sickly color green to run home and get in the basement. And that was just the summer. Then came the winter, with the same wind, except blowing freezing cold air and snow around. The weather up there is hideous, and I have lived in the tropics ever since I was in my 20s probably mostly for that reason lol.
Our largest city, Amsterdam, is our capital. It's even written in our constitution for some reason that Amsterdam is the capital. But our government operates out of The Hague.
This isn't a city, but Kilimanjaro does NOT rise (like Olympus) above the Serengeti. Both are in Tanzania. But they are virtually invisible from each other at their distance.
Better look up the Ferris wheel at the 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition. It had huge enclosed cars that carried twenty people each! Ferris wheels don't have to be small or have open cars.
It’s fun to see how “well, ackchyually” commenters are usually completely oblivious to the other innumerable “well, ackchyually“s already commented before them, because _their_ “well, ackchyually” is the only one that exists, and they simply _must_ get their correction in. 🤣
Kind of drives you crazy, doesn't it? The way some British people say Nicaragua like "Knick-arr AGG you-wuh" is one that always hits my ear like nails on a chalkboard. Some also say Barack Obama like "Barricko Bomma." Canberra being mispronounced by non Australians is at least somewhat understandable. Most are just phonetically sounding out the three syllables, can bear uh. But by reading the comments, it seems it's "Canbruh?" I'll be sure to say it that way now. It's similar to Edinburgh, Scotland being pronounced as "Edinbruh"). But hearing "Barricko.." That almost has to be on purpose. 😅
South Africa has three capitals, the administrative capital is Pretoria, the legislative, Cape Town, and judicial, Bloemfontein.
Thank you for putting the correction now.I don't have to
The location of Canberra was selected as a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne, and the spelling was selected to make foreigners mis-pronounce it!

I lived in NYC for over 19 years and never realized that only 4/41 Broadway theatres were on Broadway.
Johannesburg is South Africa's most populated city, followed by Cape Town then Durban
Toronto is NOT the capitol of Canada.
Are you sure? 🤔 I'm not so sure 🧐

As an Aussie -- it is spelled Canberra, but pronounced Can-bruh
it's not ill suited to call it Booba or Boobi
Ngunnawal and Ngambri people have confirmed, it can mean boobs.
Kind of reminds me of Edinburgh. I always wondered if people from there would pronounce Pittsburgh as Pittsb'ruh. 😅
My city of Vancouver is often mistaken for being on Vancouver Island. In reality, it is on the North American mainland.
Double wrong on South Africa there, Cape Town IS one of the capitals of but ISN'T the largest city.
Love the Jackalope behind you. Personally I don’t think that they’re extinct. 😂
Belmopan Belize is another example of a smaller, recent, inland capital. Belize City is much larger, and was the capital until a hurricane caused the heart of government to be relocated inland
The Eiffel Tower wasn't all that popular when it was erected, either! People thought it would ruin the city's skyline.
This also led to a con artist managing to "sell" the tower for scrap metal twice since there were persistent debates about tearing it down for scrap. He would have "sold" it a third time but that was when he was finally caught and arrested.
Oddly, parts of the London Overground are... yeah, underground.
Canberra is pronounced "can-brah"
