  • Senior video correspondent Graham Flanagan went behind the scenes of "Disney on Ice" to find out what it takes to perform in the show.
He spent a day with the cast and crew ahead of the debut of "Road Trip Adventures," which is currently on tour in North America. Many of the cast grew up in the world of competitive ice skating, a world that the show's director of talent said the company scouts for potential cast members.
The latest show, titled "Road Trip Adventures," goes beyond skating, requiring the cast to learn challenging choreography that incorporates aerial work and gymnastics.
The "Road Trip Adventures" show incorporates characters from recent Disney properties like "Toy Story 4," "Aladdin," and "Mary Poppins Returns."

i recently worked as the costume department for this year disney on ice in my country, and the amount of work these skaters put are insane. they have a lot of show time every day and they have to do it like for a week before moving on to another country. they have to do everything by themselves (make-up until costume despite having a costume department helper). i talked to a lot of the skaters backstage and theyre always try to put on a friendly face when i know theyre always freaking tired and want to go home since theyve been doing the tour for months. i appreciate how much work goes backstage and onstage.

For people asking about their salaries, I found this:
"I would say on average, before tax, a first year ensemble skater will make about $700 per week and a lead role can make anywhere from 900 to as much as $1500 per week, or even more depending on the role. First of all, we are paid weekly and employed full time on a contract basis."

Well lets see for a lead role , let's say they get it 26 times a year so 1500 and the other times they get a side character that pays roughly 1000 a week .
      Pre tax : 1500×26 + 1000 × 26 = 65000.
Than we have tax : lets assume 10 % for 0-55k and 13 % 55001 to 79k. Roughly that is
      0.1×55000 + 0.13 × 15000 = 5502 $
Now i don't know if their insurance is covered by Disney , so i will leave at this.

Poor four-year-old me had a little bit of a meltdown during the show because I was scared of crowds at that age. Thankfully, my mom was a chaperone on that trip so she calmed me down enough to enjoy the actual show. It's a great memory I have of my late mother.

I remember wanting to be in this show more than anything when I was young, I have been doing theater since I was 3, same thing for gymnastics a bit later tho, came from a family who did hockey and figure skating for 3 generations on each side. But then I developed really strong social anxiety around the age of 11, I could still kinda do theater since I was impersonating someone but was never able to do figure skating competitions because I would just break down (same thing for all different kind of dances I tried). I have given up on that dream as I am 16 now but I will never stop loving what they do and the different things and sports incorporated in that, it’s just so amazing ❤️
