Windows 10 on an ROG Ally - How does it perform?

- If you are someone that can't stand Windows 11, and wants to try Windows 10, this video is for you! For some reason, there is NO information regarding putting Windows 10 on the ROG Ally, that is where I come in, I had to make my own amateur video and show you guys that Windows 10 DOES work, despite some tinkering, everything seems to work.

Nice to have Win10 works on Ally, next is wait for Atlas OS 0.3 goes live to extract all performance of the Ally.

I always use my handy "winget uninstall" list right after I install Windows 10 to get rid of all the unwanted junk.
linux on the ally is finally getting good. Nobara steam deck gives you a steam deck experence on your ally and with a bit of tweaking you get everything from AC and CC buttons to TDP control and epic audio

I also used a USB hub to do this one of the Anker ones. The great thing about the ROG Ally is the touch screen so it's way easier to set up.
Are you talking about installing Windows 10 from usb?
Make sure prior you have a hub with ethernet

Sorry it took me a bit to respond and you probably already figured this out. But if you use a USB hub it should boot to the installation just fine if you copied the right files
I installed Windows 10 but it doesn't give me audio and if you have installed the sound drivers any solution?
I'm having the same problem I haven't found any solution yet

I just found out what you have to do is what someone else said and disable the intro logo sound in the bios and it works I just did it and bam works

Isn't it a problem if you have 10 installed but the updates come for 11 ?
Bios 330 you can use EZ Flash Utility in the bios to update. Windows 10 is still updated, but as far as the ASUS components, what actually needs updating that isn't already in Armory Crate, which is fully supported in Windows 10?

Great video. Got my ally the other day and was disgusted when I saw it ran Windows 11. Thinking about installing Windows AME which is a hacked version of windows 10 that comes without all the Microsoft bloat crap.
At least the bloat on stock 10 is easy to remove. But AME with nothing pre-installed sounds better
@@HollywoodShono Its an awesome OS. Its my daily driver. Only issue is, it doesnt have the auto driver download function. So you have to manually install all your drivers.
What I do is, I install official windows 10, update it to the latest version, update all th drivers and then use a CMD command to extract the drivers into a folder. I then back up that folder, install Windows AME and then install the drivers from the folder.

If you can, hook up the ROG Ally via Ethernet connection, not wireless, there are some cheap dongles that allow this, then run Windows Update
anyway of going about revert back to windows 11? i really enjoyed 10 but its starting to become cumbersome to use with alot of glitched and such, with end of support coming soon i might as well change! I have an error when trying to upgrade saying that tpm 2.0 is disabled and in videos it shows people going into bios and changing it that way, but i dont see any options to change anything. Any help? thx! :)
you could try the standard cloud recovery option

Hi! Can we get more recent update? I seem to have lost the sound on my Ally with Win.10.
Did you previously have sound? Did you download the Realtek audio driver on the Asus download page for the ally?

@@Methsman yes just get into the bios and disable the logo sound and its fixed, oh man with windows 10 i can play Resident Evil 4 remake on 15 w option and battery lasts lot longer its really worth it works 40% boost in fps and battery life with win 10, windows 11 sucks
You need to download the Realtek audio drivers from the asus site

There is no warranty void for putting whatever on your hard drive. And even still I have the 512gb with windows 11 on it. But my 2tb has windows 10
Just bought the ally tonight and omg the implementation of win 11 is an abomination. I'm talking it's class action lawsuit bad. This device is virtually useless with 10. Navigation is horrendous. Bloatware is insane. So much!!!
@jsizzle2k6 try starting up in either Armory Crate or Steam Big Picture. Massive difference if you don't want to navigate around windows just be warned you'll have to download all the drivers on the rog ally page
@HollywoodShono I'm gonna return this. It's an un-usable experience. It's been 3 hours and still haven't even been able to play a game yet. Should work out of the box. Shouldn't need accounts and updates and broken software. Improper buttons/functions just break the entire experience. Should of built this off a stripped down win10

@@majed4220 You're welcome, yeah you need to get the Realtek Audio driver from the Asus ROG Ally Drivers
Try disabling the Animation Post Logo Audio in the BIOS. For some reason I had the same issues but that's what worked for me even after installing all drivers.

Sadly no. I'm honestly thinking Windows updates are messing up the SD card driver

Steam Deck is an amazing piece of tech for sure. And it's nice to have both because I can test from both sides
OS? Absolutely. Hardware and performance? Absolutely not.
Not even the os . Since seriously ? Linus ??? 20 percent of games aren't even playable . I haven't seen one game which wouldn't work on the ally

@@user-ne7gq1pn8myou forget the trackpad it's very useful ironically ROG ally which is running windows that need it the most doesn't have it, for software I think the sleep mode is the best feature of steam deck
