Fantastic to know! I see amazing leather couches that are faded and now know what to do with them. My husband really wants a leather recliner and facebook market place here I come.
I had no idea I could take my leather lighter. So thankful I seen this
I’m glad I found your channel. I just purchased a dark brown ottoman, wanting black, didn’t know I could change it. Thanks for sharing!
Can you do a 3 months update? That would really help!
Yeah I feel like this will eventually crack and flake because it's just a paint on surface treatment...? Leather is pliable and wondering if this stuff will flex with the ripples or deteriorate
Thanks for the feedback on an update! I’ll tag that onto my next video! For the meantime, I can say I am still very happy with the ottoman!
@@theinteriorlyfe2043 let’s go !!!
@@theinteriorlyfe2043 how is this holding up today? I’m thinking of buying a bottle for my long museum bench
@@CHRONIC2oo3 it’s holding up great! I recently purchased a coffee table though since we have a new sectional sofa. Not to worry though, it will have a new home and featured on an upcoming video!
Putting aside the obvious importance of black leather, I've always thought that tan leather is one of the best ways to enjoy this type of upholstery and get the most out of it. It's the kind of material that makes designs that can become family heirlooms last for generations. I have a Togo sofa in tanned leather from Manhattan Home Design and I really love how it looks in my living room. Nice tutorial.
Thank you!
Lovely results. You gave me the info and I'm ready to change my leather couches!?
Great video. how much of the 8 oz bottle did you use? I have a love seat with wooden arms, so I only need to stain to back and seat parts. I'm wondering if 8oz will be enough.
Wow, The ottoman looks great and so does you living room. You have a beautiful palette. I have dyed leather ballet shoes every manner of colors and that is how I knew this is possible. You did a great job on the painting and on the color choice. Looks like your channel has really grown too! Thank you for the tutorial! :))
I’m impressed! My couch is really showing the usage of the past 15 years. I’m definitely going to try this. Thank you for the info!
Let me know how it turns out Emalea! Mine is still holding up great!
I wanted to dye my black leather roller skates and I thought I would have to bleach it or something crazy. This is amazing! Thank you! 😊
You’re welcome! Good luck with tour roller skates! You will need a lot of coats of the Rub n Restore.
This is amazing! I had no idea this could be done. A game changer for Facebook Marketplace!
Yes!!!! Mine is from marketplace!
Wow that looks so nice. More than the ottoman, I love your family/living room design! I never would have thought to put rust with grey/black/white but it looks awesome.
Thank you! It looks totally different now!LOL!
Wow❤ what a fantastic job. Thank you for also responding to requested updates on how the furniture gas geld up.
wooow. I love that. sure I'll give it a try. thanks for sharing.

Great job! 😀 I'm changing a black leather armchair to cream or beige.
Thanks and good luck on your project! I just posted a two year update!
How did it turn out what did you use thank you
Very helpful, thank you
So helpful, can’t wait too try!
Good luck!
I loved the simplicity of how you explained this DIY recoloring. Perfect can't wait to do my black to blue color change. About How many coats for a sofa.
Thanks! It just really depends on the color you want to achieve. Since I was going from dark to light, it took 8 coats, but they dried really quickly. I painted the top and then the sides. By the time I finished the sides, the top was dry. It took about 2 hours total. You can’t see on the video, but I just watched a movie!
Nice. I have a chocolate brown couch, similar to what you started with, and I'd like to add some black in parts, on the edges and on the buttons(has chesterfield type of arms) to get that distressed look, for lack of a better description. If it doesn't turn out right, I'll just dye the couch black as that would work too. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Nice video, thanks for the tips and information provided here I am confident to dye my leather stuff. Thanks again and good luck with your next videos!
Good luck!
So beautiful! You make it seem so easy. I want to do both my leather couch and loveseat. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and it was easy! The product is super forgiving. Rub N Restore gets all the credit!
@@theinteriorlyfe2043 update please. Really don’t want to ruin our leather sofa.
What about boots made with the rough side of leather out and many coats of shoe grease and polish
Nice job I may want to change my sofa colour too🌸✨
Do it! It’s such an easy and expensive way to make it look new again.
How does this compare to Friebing Dye?
That was interesting and helpful. Thankyou. I only have a purse to colour, though, so am hoping to find a product for less than fifty dollars.😊
This looks amazing! You did a FANTASTIC job! How many bottles did it take for the 8 coats that you did?
How come you painted ottoman in lighter color, but the result at the end of the video, including two dark brown pillows, still in dark chocolate? Would you mind to show the sufficient result? Thank you
Beautiful!
Such a lovely setup of living room!
Thank you! It's totally different now after two years!
Your video of changing leather color is amazing & will be a handy doable DIY for countless people. I didn't know this product of changing leather color existed. I've a few leather upholstered antique chairs made in Mexico & the medium brown leather remains in nice condition except for having areas of fading. I'm going to attempt to restore the color of the chairs in the same color medium brown. I've always wondered how to economically do this. 2 upholstery shops estimated recovering the chairs with new leather & their prices were just too high. Thank you so very much for offering us this very nice technique. I also wonder if the product you use would work on changing the color of vinyl covered furniture?
Let me know how it turns out! If I recall, it will work on vinyl. If you have questions about your piece, I highly recommend emailing Rub N Restore. They are very knowledgeable and respond quickly.
Is there white dye for leather??
Tarrago have white dye (tarrago self shine white)
Thank you soo much for sharing your video ! next week I will do the same for my couch too ! wish me luck !
Thank you! Let me know how it turns out!
Where is your web site. I would like to see the available colors and purchase a bottle of the product
I’d like to do this to my dining chairs. Does the color come off on clothes or skin?
Will this hold up on leather shoes?
would this work on italian leather as well?
That is unbelievable, great job. It looks fantastic.,
Thank you!
Your living room design is perfect. What brand of paint did you use and can it be ordered online? Greetings from Montenegro
Great job 🎉❤
Can I make brown leather cream?
Would it wash off with water?
this is so cool and helpful! thank you!
You're so welcome!
Hey 👋 new subscriber Great video thanks for sharing GOD bless
Thank you!
is it real leather? Or how can you tell? I have what I think is a real leather office chair but I have no idea if it actually is or not because it was second hand.
wow looks great! how is it holding up?
I just posted a two year update last week on my channel!
So happy to have found this video! Looking forward to recoloring my own ottoman.
This single 8ounce bottle covered your two pillows and the ottoman, is that right?
Yes! That’s correct. I’m finally getting around to doing an update on how it’s held up for 2 years!
A very beautiful finished product. This room is designed to perfection. I have two very pricey leather pillows that I purchased years ago. I probably purchased them from someplace like Pottery Barn so I would really like to restore them rather than let me go. . So, I really did watch this video because of the refinishing of the leather pillows. I am wondering how the pillows have held up since the refinishing project. What is your longer term review of the product?
rather than let them go . . . .
Yes, my pillows were from Pottery Barn too! They are nearly 20 years old!
I really appreciat it looks great. Please let me know how can I get in touch with the people who sell this product. Thanks
There is a link in the description. They are very responsive.
Thank you so much for sharing, one question, do you know if this works for vinyl?
It does!
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing and making this video.
Great video thanks ans good luck
How many bottles did you use? Im very keen to do my 5 seater lounge!! 😀
I used 1 8oz bottle on the ottoman and two throw pillows. They make a 16oz bottle as also. You can email the company with a pic of your project and they can tell you how much you need. They are very quick to respond!

Hi, my daughter has a headboard “black” plus the other parts. What do you recommend? Thank you 😊
I’m not sure I understand your question.
How is the ottoman holding up? Thanks for a great tutorial, was not aware of this product. ☺
It’s still going strong! I’ll have an updated video this week!
Great thank you!
Trying this I ordered a salon chair & they sent the wrong color , I waited too long for it to come so I don’t want to send it back I’m just going to change the color.
Beautiful. Thank you
Ty
Hi Beth - I just now fell upon your video; thank you. I was wondering if you think it's a good idea to do this process if the original leather on the ottoman has some peeling damage on it? I'm torn between refurbishing the lid with fabric; doing this change of color process or just buying new ottoman stools - LOL - I know the Rub n' Restore is just for color change, but wonder if it would "hide" some of the peeling damage. What do you think? Thanks in advance for your advice
It’s my understanding that if it’s peeling, it could be bonded leather. I do know Rub n Restore also sells leather repair kits. I would email them directly with a picture of your ottoman. The owner is very responsive. She will email you back with 24 hours and let you know if the product is a good fit for you. Thank you for watching!
I love the finished color in your room, but not in the 'creating' part of the video which is probably the lighting. Which one is the actual color? I am thinking of using this. Your room is lovely! Thanks for the excellent video. You did great w/o wasting time and I appreciate it and subscribed.
Thank you! What is shown in the room is the finished color. Just like any paint product, it looks different from wet to dry. Rub N Restore sells swatches so you can see what the exact color is before you commit to your project. 😀
Why you didn’t use leather finish to seal the paint?
It wasn’t required. If I did a chair or a sofa I probably would have.
Si puo passare da un blu marino a un giallo senape?
Great video, was just wondering how durable the coating is. Will it last in high traffic areas like where people sit on couch cushions?
Thank you! We use the ottoman all the time to prop our feet up, and the dogs, cats, and kids are constantly on it. It still looks as great as the day I painted it. I also did two leather throw pillows which get the same abuse and they still look great too! It’s my understanding that the product bonds with the leather, and there are tons of positive reviews on the website. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it on a chair or couch.
Will it work on vinyl
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Awesome. I have the same ottoman
Are you going to re-color it?
Did 8 ounces do the whole ottoman?
Where do we get these products?
Perfect 10!
Can you post about the product you used? Great video thanks
Thank you! It’s called Rub n Restore. There is a link in the description to purchase.
Love it
Could you use it on a leather purse?
I don’t see why not. I also did the leather pillows on my couch and they’ve been fine.
I have a beige couch that the cat has torn up so I now have those dark scratches in the leather.
I am not looking to change to color should I use paint, stain or dye?
Which is the better choice?
Thanks
I would email Rub n Restore with a pic of your couch and ask them. They are very responsive and knowledgeable and will recommend the best products for your situation.
How many bottles do you use?
I just purchased a sectional that is beautiful but I want to change the color. She says it’s 100% polyester. Would it be safe to use the rub n store
perchance
was one bottle enough for 8 coats .. how many bottles did it take
Yes! Just one bottle for the ottoman and the 2 pillows.
how is it doing now? i want to do this on a white couch i've got and wondering if prolonged use gives you a cool patina
I just posted a two year update!
Hi Its been a couple of years now how did the paint do
It’s been several years and I’ve had no issues. I posted a follow up video last year.
Pardon me for asking. Would the colour run in time to come? Would clothing be stained by any chance? Look forward to your reply as I intend to do the same to my car leather upholstery, from black to tan.
Thank you
I have not had any issues with the color running or staining our clothes. Rub N Restore also sells a sealer on their website. It might be a good addition for your car due to the sun. I would email them, they respond within hours usually. Good luck!
This product seems almost too good to be true! I’ll definitely have to take a look into these colors, and also practice my patience 😆
Go for it!
I can’t find the link. Can you please advise me? Thank you.
Lynn
The link is in the description! :)
Do you have a link to your couches?
perchance
Liquid name?
Thank you
You’re welcome! Be sure to check out the 2 year follow up on my channel!
wonderful!
Many thanks!
Can you let us know how that has held up. Did it rub off, or scrape off?
I just posted a two year update!
Does this work on faux leather or leather vinyl mix ?
Rub N Restore will tell you no. However, I believe my ottoman was bonded leather, which is basically leather shavings ground up and mixed with glue. I can’t be certain because it was used. The website has some articles on how to identify what your piece is made of. My ottoman has not had any issues and plan on using the product again on what I know for sure is a faux leather bed soon.
Great job!!!! 💜
How many bottles /ml did you end up using of the dye?
I used the smallest bottle they sell and did the ottoman and two throw pillows.
Hi did you remove the alcohol and lemon and then put painting ? Would it work for a leather pants ?
I did not remove it. I used the lemon since it was a second piece and I didn’t know if it was quality leather. I think it would work just fine on leather pants, but email Rub N Restore, they respond within hours!
So you didn't need to put a topcoat or anything over it?
I did not use a top coat, although they do have one.
Hi. Could this technique be used for leather jackets as well? I have heard some people wash their leather jacket at cold temperature in the washing machine. Would the paint be waterproof?
I would think so. I would email the company and ask, they are very responsive!
How did you keep the shine on it.
I didn't do anything. That's the way it dries! There are top coats available though if you prefer a different sheen. I just posted a two year update!
Hi wanted to ask you can I change black to camel color with this RuB N Restore ?
Absolutely. While my ottoman wasn’t black, it was dark espresso. You may just need a couple of additional coats.
@@theinteriorlyfe2043 That's great 😊
Hi, did you used the whole bottle?
I did use the whole bottle. I did the ottoman and two pillows. If you are taking a lighter shade darker or matching a similar color, it will not take as much product as taking a darker shade lighter like I did.
@@theinteriorlyfe2043 is that 16oz bottle? And how was it holding up?? Thank you.
No this was the smaller bottle. 8oz I believe. It’s holding up great! No fading, cracking, chipping or color transfer. We put our feet up on it every night, and my husband even puts his boots in it sometimes. The dogs will also jump up there. It still looks new!
@@theinteriorlyfe2043 ok great thank you so much.
May I know if this coloring can be used in leather shoe .?
I don’t see why not. I also did the two leather pillows on my couch and they’ve held up just fine!
NICE!!!
What's the ratio of lemon and alcohol?
I'm sorry, I don't remember, but it was in the instructions. I just posted a two year update!
Does this work on faux leather?
It is my understanding that it does not because faux leather will eventually crack and peel. However, my ottoman was purchased 2nd hand, and although I was told it was “real” leather, I believe it was bonded leather. It’s like ground up bits of leather scraps mixed with some sort of bond and pressed into sheets of “leather.” I posted a two year follow up video a couple of weeks ago, and you can see that it has held up beautifully, but there isn’t any promises by the company that it will. When I sent the company the follow up video, they were surprised that it did hold up so well not being “real leather.” My advice is to email them directly with pictures and information about the piece you intend to paint. They are very responsive and full of advice. They want you to be successful!
@@theinteriorlyfe2043 Thanks will definitely check first
Hello any flaking off or anything that you would not use this product agian?
Nope! I did this is September 2020 and it’s now May 2021 and it looks new, despite 3 kids, 2 dogs, a cat, and a husband. 😆 I have a leather upholstered bed next on my list!
@@theinteriorlyfe2043 That is awesome! Ty so much for the response.
