It sure would be nice if someone made a video on the SQ-64 for noobs. Every video I've seen so far either blitzes through the material as if the viewer is already familiar with the system, or is like this video here with no what/where/why to it.
The tension this whole video as to whether the torso in the shot would finally just pull his sleeves over his entire hands during the clip. Lucky for y’all there’s third party content creators that know how to make a demo.
Knowing Korgs support and continuity of their products after the initial cash crab for the latest half baked plastic toybox, you should just start coding that editor yourself 🤣
No, it's just a sequencer so what it does is generate control signals (in patterns/rhythms) which are then sent to other devices such as synthesizers and drum machines, which then in turn generate the actual audible signal. However, if you're new to this I won't recommend this device at all. It's made for people who are well-versed in the world of synths and sequencers, no matter what lies Korg tells about its user friendliness.
Is it posible to play the sequence and hear the midi while you play the keyboard? It only works when I press record or when the sequence is not playing. Hopefully I will master this thing. Weirdly enough I have a great understanding of midi but somehow I can't get it to work the way I want it
After I record a drum track on channel d of korg sq-64 when i switch to channel a to jam along, the synth sound is not heard. I only get both channels when in active record mode which doesn’t allow me to create a part ahead of time.
So is it easier to try to learn this with daw first because I am having a helluva time learning to use it with the volca sample and NTS1 together. I can’t even fully figure out the sample without the NTS1 because I think I’m doing something wrong with the midi routing . But when I tried to follow your instructions with ableton live The place to tell it what channels to transmit on was greyed out but I was definitely seeing the sq64 . I’ve only had it for a day and it’s my first sequencer but still…any pointers?
Hello I have an issue with my SQ-64. In GATE mode I can barely tell which steps are active and which not. It is hard to distinguish them since the non active ones are lit and the active ones are also lit with a more strong light. Unfortunately the amount of light is not so much in my opinion...Could I just switch off the inactive ones?
How do you like the workflow? I'm a total noob, so I'm wondering how much of sounds comes with it, and is setting it up for sequencing different synths a hassle or does it go smoothly? Have a nice day you.
@@acashicrecords4947 Hi, first: this is a controller and no sounds come with this. The workflow is enough smooth. you have 2 important way to act on the synth and daw you control: GATE mode (active and inactive steps) and PITCH mode in which you actually play the notes or set them per step. Then there is also MOD mode etc. The first plus is the super portability. The worst cons is the problem I described. You can barely discern active from inactive steps. If portability its' not a problem I would suggest you to have a look at Arturia BeatStep Pro. cheers.
Korg is Still the only company that actually gives the answer: Yes, our New product works as a standalone Sequencer and not just a midi Switch! Yes, it works for live pattern creation/programming!
Yeah too bad they don’t give you the proper connectors with any of their gear! I can’t believe I have to buy ANOTHER cable to hook up my NTS1 to MIDI when I already bought a bunch of type A Connectors like it said . This SQ64 is confusing the bloody hell out of me too but I can tell it’s going to be great once I become a rocket scientist and figure this out 😂 (sorry it’s my first sequencer) ughh I can’t even figure out how to get a decent sound out of my volca sample or daw unless I’m just using sync and I didn’t spend all this money just for clock sync
Korg has to fix the SQ64 USB ext Midi rec, not working. Sonoma unsupported. Ext clock display fixed at own internal. No Mod options for CCs and only one per track/sub-tracks. The SQ64 Modulations needs to cover Midiloop ext rec fixed. Bastl Midiloop, Midiphy Loopa V4, Squarp Pyramid, Hermod+, Novation Beatstep. All of them has ext midi rec, with multiple modulations options such as ENV syncing, LFO mixing, and limitless for CCs and Korg can not make a single update to address this issue, nor ANYONE single VIDEO showing it is possible. Whilst ALL of the above, has videos showing how easy it is. From a DAW one needs to choose SQ64-SEQ over SQ64 Midi in, Usb ext clock, Midi notes are passed through, but nothing get recorder... Where are you Korg devs??? Please!!! Before we start mass replacing it with smth that works... fix it!!! Btw, tnx for Sync divisions, it works BEAUTIFULLY! (It's not all bad)
Yes, run it into the MIDI in and it just kinda works. Go into Pitch mode and hold the button for the step you want to edit and press the key/s [chord] you want on that step. I'm using an Arturia Beatstep32 for the MIDI input, btw
I followed this video, without a DAW. It is connected to a synth. I can play the synth thru midi with the SQ-64, but the PARAM4 knob does not change octaves, and pressing play doesn't play anything after I follow the instructions to make a phraase.
Subtitles would have been great to add a bit more depth of communication. What software are you using and why? What are the alternatives just in case people are using other set ups Whats the objective here?
Sorry, but should I able to hear you explaining what your doing? There is a subtext and I can hear music playing, but not your voice explaining what your doing. Am I missing something?
Recently acquired one and was looking for an instructional video manual... but I am sorry Korg this is a woeful effort. NO explanation as to what is going on, and the guys sleeves are constantly in the line of site, obscuring the button presses, undermining any attempt to sensibly comprehend the workflow!
Try this, if you haven’t found it already. This guy and £00p0p left me baffled, but after watching this video I had the basics down pretty good. The only vital thing he doesn’t cover is the ‘global’ menus- any difficulties, give me a shout! ruclips.net/video/H8K2x-wwbfQ/видео.html

At 1:39 how nice of you to edit out the tedious task of programming modulation for every single step from a tiny screen using one knob and button... really shows how Korg themselves are embarrassed for this uninuitive, overpriced toy. Also nice to have 50 buttons without velocity or colored led in them! And the cherry on top: micro usb 🤣 a hard pass on this one!
do you really want to see that? programming for every step allows you to create lots of variation, you don't HAVE To program every step, just the ones where you want a parameter change. I found your channel very enlightening BTW
@@knifedreamer None im sure. Maybe not even under 500$. But as long as the modulation (velo/cc you name it) is applied by using ONE freaking knob and a menu on a 2x2cm screen its value to me is 0$. At 2:20, please add a command to auto-quantize all recorded notes to the grid, i.e. to automatically set all steps Offset to zero!
A tip: you can watch movies at Kaldrostream. Been using it for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Henry Adrien Yea, I have been watching on Kaldrostream for since december myself :)
Do you at Korg aim to make your instructional videos and manuals completely useless or is it an unhappy accident?
