    firmware 2.0 has a new quantization options while live playing ....
    You can now record in real time while applying quantization.
    1. Press the GLOBAL button to enter global mode.
    2. Set the quantize threshold (boundary value) in the “RECORD-
    INGS” setting, which was newly added to pad A-12 in global mode.

    • @ambidex

      @@Javeton Quantizing is having sounds/notes fall directly on the beats rather than naturally how they were played. For example if you quantized a 4/4 time signature measure to quarter notes then every note played would start exactly on a quarter note. In other words, even if you played a sound on an 1/8 note originally, it would shift in 1/4 note quantization to play on the nearest quarter note instead. It makes it more accurate and can resolve playing errors but also makes notes play very precisely rather than how a human might sound if they were playing live.
      Make sense?

    The message about the midi cables is very, very important. Even though I knew it and ordered from Amazon with that in mind I got the wrong type, even though the ad said A. So before you return your SQ64 be sure it's not the cables. Luckily I had 1 good cable from before so I knew it wasn't the machine.

    Good tutorial. I'm still getting to grips with my SQ-64 but I do know that you don't have to adjust Mod values for each step, you can use the offset (knob 1) to adjust them all at once.

      Nice to hear that Phil. I think offset in the drum channel has to do with the time/step values. For volume/velocity i think you have to use the value knob by holding the step you like and choose from 1 to 127 value/velocity. Will check your suggestion tho, Cheers.

Oh and I can see your Tascam, I was about to buy one for my outdoor videos but I bought the Roland R-07 and the Zoom H2n Instead. Reason for was the battery life on the Tascam Is quite short, unless you add a external charger which adds more weight to the outdoor setup. Nice tutorial, Stefan!
    I've just found your channel while I was searching on YT for "Volcas + Elektron Model:Samples". Not sure why the search engine found you, but now I am grateful to it ;).
    Anyhow, I am in a big debate with myself about SQ-64 or Model:Samples? I have 4+1 Volcas (Beats, Keys, Bass, Kick + Mix) and looking for a sequencer that could extend the built-in 16 steps of the Volcas. I could get a used Elektron for the same price as a new SQ-64, and it is a sampler as well. So it seems to be a better choice, but I am not sure.
    Looking at YT videos I can see that a Model:Samples can drive 1 or 2 Volcas for sure, but I don't know if it could deal with the 4 I have?
    You are no doubt a true master of the Volca range so what do you suggest? SQ-64 or Model:Sample?

    • @StefanTorto
      @StefanTorto  2 года назад +1

      Hi Tamas! Glad to be connected. SQ64 is the way to go with 4 volcas for polyphonic sequencing (it's important to be able to record chords per step and not mono/single note) but also will be nice tho to add a sampler in this setup, so it's room from model samples also in the future.
      Form the other side you can run the Model sample like main sequencer and add your Volca Keys and Bass to it and use the Volca Kick and Beats with their internal sequencers by sync them with the model sample. Cheers : )

      @tamascsabina2726 2 года назад +2

      Thanks for the reply, Stefan!
      I was not aware that the Model:Sample is monophonic, which indeed simplifies the decision.
      On the other hand I am bit confused with the 2nd part of your reply, mentioning that I could use the M:S as a sequencer for the Keys and Bass. It might be the lack of my knowledge on the topic, but if the M:S is monophonic, and I cannot play/record chords with it, why would I want to control the Keys with it, which is for sure meant to make melodies?

    • @tamascsabina2726
      @tamascsabina2726 2 года назад +1

      Stefan, 2 additional questions:
      The SQ-64 has 4 channels: 3 melodic + 1 drum pattern, right? So I guess I won't be able to control each channel/voice on the Beats individually, right? But I need to pick one voice/midi-channel from the 10 voices (kick, snare, lo-tom, hi-tom, cl-hat, open-hat, etc). Or this is not how it will work. But basically the SQ-64 will just extend the step count from 16 to 64 for the Beats?
      The second question is about another sequencer, the Yamaha QY100. I know it is a vintage gear, but it's 16 channel sounds massive! With that one I could drive each voices on the Beats individually, right?

    I’m sorry to bother you again but still having a hard time comprehending how you do overdubs once a track is recorded with no ability to play live over the recorded track. Only in record mode do I hear all the tracks which allows for no rehearsing ahead of time. I see a number of the SQ-64 forums show people with the same frustration. How do you personally go about creating a sequence from scratch?

    Hello Stefan from Chile. I hace the SQ64 and Midi Flex 4, also with the volcas. In your video only show that use Midi flex4 with midi A cable (with mini plug). The midi A in the other extrem is Female and the Volca has the same. How you connect from SQ64 to Midi Flex4, and from de the Midi Flex 4 to Volca. I test with a two Male cable but do not work (there ara not signal). The question is if that midi cable male botht extrem shoul be A too. Also I mede music with synthes and secuences, if you can visit my chanel will be good...thanks a lot

      Hi 😊 you need a type A MIDI to mini jack (Korg use this, novation for example use type B, they look the same but it has to do with the polarity I think ) and a normal midi cable to connect them (male to female)

      Unfortunately no..... the only way to quantize is to manually remove the micro-timing data from each step which is a long workaround. Or record in step-time
