I’m honestly glad Sunsoft lost the Terminator license as I would have never cared about, let alone played it! I did not enjoy the Terminator, so I wouldn’t have ever tried it. It would have also never gotten a NSO rerelease, as that is what got me to play the game again. I honestly would’ve forgotten about Silius without NSO, and I really don’t understand the hate it gets! Today, I can honestly as that Journey to Silius is my favorite game ever made!
This was a wonderful expose on how superior the wizards at Sunsoft were back in the day compared to Laughing Joking Numbnuts & Radical Games. Thank you for making my week reviewing this classic overlooked 1990 NES gem by Sunsoft and giving it its due. This is totally an S tier game to me like Blaster Master. Love that music btw.
Excellent job on this video! It's amazing--in only the past couple of years have I really been learning so much about Journey to Silius. Both you and Nefarious Wes are making me such a fan of this to the point that I really need to sit down with it and become a fan of it! It's also very cool to know the history and see all the references and how it changed. And the music, it really is impressive for the NES! Always enjoy gaming history--keep this up!
Thanks man! It was a ton of fun to make. You definitely need to check it out - I picked up the speedrun for it a couple of years ago, and I've been hooked ever since!
Yeah! I mentioned that one at the end - I should have shown some footage but got lazy. 😅 And thanks on the opening! It took a while to figure out what I wanted to do with it, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Thanks so much for the compliments! I absolutely love this game, and the story behind it is so cool. This was probably one of my favorite videos to make - I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Sunsoft didn’t lose the license, they called the project off because the guy who was sent to oversee the project and the design team was being rude and too demanding, and he frustrated them and so they cancelled it and decided to rework it into an original creation.
i believe that loseing license is best what could happened to this game, look at other licensed games and tell me how better it could be....terminator, jaws, spider man, hook, fox's peter pan...
Ohh, so _that's_ why all the images that I have seen of the game's cover have that big headed guy in it - the character looks like that in the North American version! I was really baffled when I saw the first game footage in this video because I distinctively remembered that the playable character did not have such a goofily big head and wore a helmet of sorts when I played this game. Thanks for clarifying that he looks like that in the North American version. Anyway, I think this game is a little sort of overrated. Sure, it is probably one of the more obscure ones among the NES games, but those who know about it seem to just praise it to no end. When I tried it for the first time after hearing nothing but those praises about it, I was a little disappointed in the whole experience, even though I did eventually manage to beat the game. I think the best part about it really is its music; it's great! Still, Journey to Silius is definitely a better game than that official Terminator game that was mentioned in this video.
If Sunsoft would have released Terminator, it would've been a f--king awesome game

Great overview of the history related to Teminator, and adjacent titles. I like your narration as well.

I love the Adventure Island opening!
I have a decent hack someone made that turns Silius back into a "Terminator" game. Interesting stuff.

I like that someone did a hack of JTS to patch in Terminator sprites, tiles and text.
