I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time. A very worthy successor to Shinobi .The Genesis / Megadrive version was my nemesis. I loved it and the music was superb for the time. I’m now going to sit back with a coffee and watch my favourite game guy cast his ninja gaze over one of my all time fave classics. Thanks Pat 👍

I love your channel and am so thankful each time you release a new video. Believe it or not, watching your videos helps with alleviating my depression. I thoroughly enjoy taking these little trips of gaming nostalgia with you. So thank you and God Bless you sir.
Always really enjoyed this game. Unlike Shinobi, which was everywhere, the only place I ever saw this one was at one of our local movie theaters, but I usually popped in a quarter or two whenever I stopped in. The dog was a cool mechanic, the only problem was that because he was activated by holding down and pressing attack, I'd occasionally unleash him (har har) when I didn't want to and was just trying to do a crouch attack. Only a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent game, though. On another topic, have you ever considered doing a video for IREM's "In the Hunt"? That was another one I used to play a lot at the same movie theater, and I was already thinking about it after your recent Strider video because that was another game with some really huge and distinctive bosses.
The Drunken Master opening clip got my full attention. Loved the pooch assist-attack in this game. Never played the arcade version, but I replay this addition to the many Shinobi titles on my Genesis collection.
Yes it was. still is. But I'm still wondering where to find an authentic Arcade Port of the game. That and Revenge of Death Adder. Other than the $600 1up machine.
@@jimvac77 But I was more interested in whether or not it was officially out in any capacity it's crazy to think how many properties Sega has that they just sit on and don't sell.

The arcade Shadow Dancer was a quarter-muncher loaded with cheap death traps, but for the Genesis they made a much better game, with better levels and play control. The original Shinobi is one of my top ten favorite video games ever, and it was great to see it get three excellent sequels on the Sega Genesis!
I played it a lot in the arcades and it was my first Amiga game, bought it along with the computer. I'm glad it was also the best home version (for once).
Cool. I haven't completed the Arcade game, but did manage to complete the Genesis Shadow Dancer 1 time. That game was like an arcade game at home back then.
Thanks PatmanQC for all your nice videos. I have many good memories with this game. I could not beat the game when I was a kid. Just two years ago I could beat the game using Game Genei cheat 😁.
After the success of Shinobi, the "save the children" mechanic was ported over to other titles like this one. Later, the same mechanic was used in Michael Jackson's Moonwalk. It was also used in a ninja NES title called, Wrath of the Black Manta.
How cool would it have been had we gotten a port of the arcade game for the SEGA/Mega CD, "Shadow Dancer CD"? No doubt SEGA could've pulled off a great conversion, w/extras like redbook audio, fully-voiced intros, cinematics & an ending.
The gameplay on the genesis version was nuts. I've never seen anyone rip through the stages like that before. I'm always so slow and methodical. I've finished it once but the final boss always whoops my butt
Great game and my fave local arcade had this game. It was one of those awesome Sega games from that time...remember Crackdown and G-loc in the same arcade at that time and later Moonwalker.... Mind you, though....I always hear the term 'quarter muncher'....you must be lucky then, in the Netherlands every arcade game had a one credit for one guilder (pre euro)...which made it around 4 quarters per credit 😉
This is my favorite Shinobi game of all time. Shame it never received a proper Arcade port for home consoles. The graphic sprites are beautiful, the best in any Shinobi game. The stages are nice. The challenge is great, it's really hard. The Genesis/Megadrive version is ok. I get bored with it. It's my least favorite of the Genesis/Megadrive trilogy.
Finally someone that agrees with me: the Genesis version looks so generic and unremarkable. I have no idea why so many people thinks it's "better than the arcade"

The M2 Sega Ages Shinobi is absolutely fantastic. Wish they'd done more inc Shadow Dancer and maybe Power Drift. Which do you think is better - Shadow Dancer or Super Shinobi?
I always thought that the cave level didn't make sense with the "plot" that this game has. Who would care if there's a bunch time bombs are set up in a cave? I can understand the other levels. But that one... I guess that every platforming game had a cave level or a sewer level, or both back then. I think that was a law at that point for platformers.
My System 18 copy of Shadow Dancer is a non-suicide board. All mask Roms, and a couple original EEPROMS. As for the Genesis version, it wasn't really a port, but a branch of the original Shinobi and Revenge of Shinobi (Super Shinobi).
