I would like to watch a demo of how to make a solid color dark background for stilllife of some sort.
Also…I need help with negative painting…still!
Thank you for sharing your video. It was very helpful.😊
Love how the columbine pops after glazing the background. Beautiful!
Thanks a lot Annette! The darker value really makes a difference.
Much more dramatic in the after-painting, it’s a very nice effect. I didn’t know that could be done. Thanks for sharing that!
It is a lot more dramatic and glazing is a great way to adjust a painting. You are very welcome.
This painting is gorgeous! I love how your painted version looks more lively, detailed and has really good lighting/shadows. It is such an improvement to the photo reference, really inviting the eye to stay for an extra moment to appreciate its beauty. The subject definitely pops after the darker background glazing :)
Thank you Kimberly. I appreciate it!
Excellent video, and came at the perfect time. I was contemplating how to do the same to a painting I'm working on. Thank you so much! 🌷
Thanks for the feedback Still Waters! Good luck with your painting!
Wow! I’ve just gotta try this one! You sure do make it look easy)
Hi Dorthy, Sorry it has taken a while to respond. I had a very busy August. I have used glazing a lot on a variety of paintings. It's a really helpful technique.
Great explanations and beautiful paintings.
Thank you, I appreciate it.
That looks way bett!
Thanks so much!
Fantastic! I've botched a couple of paintings when adjusting backgrounds because I went too dark too quickly. I love the way you did this. That columbine is so luminous. Thank you for another wonderful video.
Hi Beth, I am glad it was helpful, you are welcome!
Absolutely AmAzInG! As a “drawer” I know this work is not easy to do even though you make it seem easy! I find I do very small back and forth strokes with paint and I get so frustrated. Any tips for drawers crossing over into watercolor? Thanks for your lessons 👍
The biggest brush you can use in an area the better. If you lay down more paint that is wetter, you can usually get around a shape without a lot of brush strokes. I hope this helps.
I love the variation the darker hues made. The glaze went perfect, but I wondered, do you ever have trouble with colors lifting as you glaze?
Yes, every now and then a color will lift. If it is a minor amount, I don't worry about it. But, there are some colors and some brands that may lift more than others. If you haven't glazed or layered over a color before, you might want to try a test strip. Also, I use a very gentle stroke to disturb as little as possible of the lower layer.
@@lorrainewatry_watercolors thanks! I love watercolor!
What brand of brushes are you using?
I use Silver Black Velvet brushes.
