Overlanders Are Getting Heavier

- Some maintenance on the rigs in the shop. Then we got a call for a Gladiator on Hells Revenge that quit running. After some diagnostics we decided to just pull it out to the Trailhead. If was definitely a hard pull from the weight of the rig, but we got it out. Then back to Hells Gate for a 4runner that had tore the steering rack off the frame. A quick washer fix and we had it driving itself out of the trail. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Trail mater sounds like a colony of seals barking at each other.
Who, who, who let the seals out. 🦭🦭🦭
🤣🦭
Mike is out there leaving it better than he found it! Hell yeah, man.
Love to see it
Leaving a wild area better than you found it is an ethic that has been taught in the western US for decades. I've been in places where most of the people have the ethic; Someone else will clean my abandoned trash and repair any damage I do.
Until you look up car tire pollution. 😮
Wait till he gets the neodymium magnet boots.
@@theuglytruth8162 Ugly! You must not drive, eh?
Rory, Shawn, and Mike have my utmost respect as an outdoorsman. Always picking up litter and refuse others leave behind. Always minding trail limits and boundaries. Always helping others out in need even when they dont charge for it. Love those guys, love the example they set.
The mayor and the deputies…
Daaaang I left those washers out like bread crumbs so I could find my way back. I was lost for 2 days. I was attacked by 3 rock peckers in the night. I slept in one of their nests lol.
Man your lucky to be alive
Good learning experience… Sleep on top of a big rock under your Jeep. Ever see a Diamond Bill Rock Pecker under a Jeep? Yeah, see what I mean.
@@michaellauer3397 Genius.
If you were any more up town! You'd be in Moab city limits! Lol😊
Your motto should be “Adapt, Improvise, Overcome”. I’ve been watching your channel almost since its inception and you never cease to amaze and overcome every adversity. Truly inspiring to watch.
Shawn’s mullet brings freedom to Moab everyday. God bless the freedom.
🦅
In a world of off road recoveries, you are a KING
The most impressive thing about this video was the fact that you did all that hopping without breaking an axle. That was some impressive throttle control!
Loving the humor! Rubbing the Rub-a-Con !😅 For good luck 😂😂
I love how Shawn laughs at just about everything. It makes me all happy.
Wowzer
Camera angle suggestion:
You have the vista view, the rolling up an obstacle side view, the innovative undercarriage view, and the buddy cab convo.
What I wanted was the in cab Rory hand and feet view pulling up the hill. Stalling out mid-climb with a deadly load/anchor behind.... starting, getting in gear, and going. The shifting, the pedal work, etc.
Use it when it is front dig time to show the transfer case lever work.
Trailmater is a helluva machine, but the operator's skill is the real show.
We've had a few videos with the pedal cam and in cab footage. We try to get as much as we can.
Oh yea, there are videos where Rory works the wheel, the levers, the pedals and the camera all at once to the point where you have to wonder where does he hide that third arm? 😅
@@Ganiscol lol
@@trailmater I think he meant in cab footage on this recovery specifically because of your struggles pulling the gladiator. For someone who is interested in the technical side of this, in cab footage would be nice. Probably a small portion of your viewers though.
@Ganiscol or what is he using to hold the camera? Truly talented.
Another good one . Always nice watching trail mater..
I never thought I'd see TrailMater not make a hill. Wow that was one heavy Rubicon. Nice recoveries with a bonus med kit. Keeping it honest is what keeps bringing everbody back. Thanks for sharing.
Time for some relocatable ballast to add to the front? (I know there's already some up there) Could bolt some bar stock to the frame rails for regular use (helps keep cog low) and move it to the front when needed.
Mile and Shawn are crazy they crack me up 😂
The three of them interact like they have been friends since kids. Wat a great relationship to have sum people who have your back .
There is simply no better crew! Feeling bad? Just watch Trail Mater team at work!
Shawn - thank you for your smile & Laugh & Mike you are the best encourager & support for Shawn & Rory --- you too have a wonderful smile & laugh --- & Rory....your smile and focus has resulted in conquering this recovery!
ORD is a class act. Met those guys 22 years ago on Pritchett, we all were having a great time. Yea, everything is stupid huge and heavy now........seems like everyone must have 140" wheelbase and 40-42" tires to do Moab.... 22 years ago I did Pritchett on a 112" wheel base and 38" tires.......Did it this year on an 89" wheel base and 31" tires LOL !!!!
Mike Thanks for picking up the treasures along the way!
Bouncing something off a tyre to see if it's low sounds like a joke, but I remember when I was a kid, watching road train drivers walk along their trailers in the morning, bouncing a crowbar off each tyre before hitting the road. I guess it's faster than a gauge, especially considering that some of them had around 60 tyres or so to check every day.
Here we go. Rory (and team) to the rescue again and again AND again! !! !!!
As Mike was picking up washers.... Oh! Piece of candy!
OH! Piece of candy!
OH! Piece of candy!
Ahhhaha.. was totally thinking the same thing.. nice little Family guy reference.. ohh piece of candy... ohh piece of candy... ohh piece of candy!!
Those MED kits are Priceless 👀👍✌️
Love watching the Trailmater team.. my favorite channel by far!
You guys are so fun to watch. I always get a kick out of the shorts after you sign off too.
it's like a blooper show at the end of a good comedy :p i love it as well
Ohhh look!!! There is an air cleaner in there!!!! Perfect!!!
Spring is in and windows are no longer needed. Trail Mater to the rescue.
It's always interesting to hear what they were told on the drive out before seeing the actual situation.
The trash bag is one of your best ideas yet
Missions accomplished.
Read the other day that those "Rub-i-cons" are basing out at around $95 k....
Maybe they are so heavy because they are made of gold or something.?
You'd think that a castellated nut, by its very nature and design, would be holding something important together, but I honestly believe that they never fail if the split pin - the very pin that the entire point of the castellations is for - is actually used. If you are going to skimp out on using the split pin, at least use a 'new' nylock, or locknut. I doubt they ever come loose and fall off either.
The interplay between the three of you is NEXT LEVEL. From Mike's trash pickup to the way Rory NEVER mashes bushes, to Shawn's heel kicks, it works. What a team.
I love it when Rory hits that certain tone of "never"; Things start to get interesting.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of overland rigs that are loaded past their max payload rating. The guys up at Epic Adventure Outfitters in BC call them Overloaders for a reason.
THE WHO LET THE DOGS OUT PART! HAD ME ROLLIN!
- what equipment do you want on your gladiator?
- yes
🤦♂
Where are you going?
Heavily traveled trails a half ton truck without lockers could handle...
Although to give the owner credit the Jeep does have a lot of redneck pinstripes, so he has been to various wooded or bushy areas.
this. makes me think of trying to get my 3yr old granddaughter to pick a snack.
FYI - Those washers were left there as nesting material for the rock peckers.
I cheer as poor old Trail Mater cries and roars! Go TM Go!!! 😅
That old 10-footer is working out real nice
Nice trail repair on the Toyota, that truck had some pretty good articulation.
You guys rock, Trail Mater too....🥰 Thanks for sharing.
Love the humor from you guy's. That had to be a puckering moment on the hill and you handled it very well 👏
Thanks for sharing and helping keep things clean.
good grief , ol Trail Mater had to work for that .. i bet the Gladiator owner doesn't have a clue what it weighs
Most don't..
Lovin’ the Trailmater trash bag! Great to see you guys taking care of your beautiful backyard! Thank you gentlemen!
Did you just call me fat?
Fat shaming that jeep for no reason
Does the shoe fit?😂
Yes
@@volvo09good reason
@@Alaskabuilt_ it's a joke...
Great job on the recoveries!! Love all that you guys do. Watching you guys is always a treat!!
Definitely getting heavier for reals. It's all those tasty burgers I end up grilling when out on the trails!
I think it just needed for Mike & Shawn to rub it on the rubicon stickers at the same time from both sides. I mean it started after Mike rubbed it, so a double rub would be magic. 🤣
I love hearing that big block work trail mater is beast mode for sure TRUCK GANG🤘🏿
Had to be the snorkel that put it over the edge weight wise.
Wow something was going on with the first recovery. First time Mater had a very hard time towing one out! Lots of fun with Shawn and Mike and Rory getting it done!
Rub a con... nice! 🤣🤣 too bad the rubbing didn't work any magic 😁😁 Thanks as always for sharing
We went to Moab right after EJS and met Shawn, Mike & Justin. They were the nicest people ever. Unfortunately, we missed Rory but it was great to meet the guys. Thank you & hope you liked the Idaho candy. 😊
How's this not a show on TV? Love it!
The suits would probably ruin it.
The master of adapt and overcome.
Good video, thanks!
So yeah,.. great video guys
Looks like Mater will be getting some extra HP & TQ lol. I have no need for a tow truck but you guys got me wanting one lol.
Trailmater prevails, even with a bloated off-road vehicle.
That certainly looked heavy. You could see it in the tire squash, suspension travel, and tough unassisted brake performance heading down slopes.
Great ! No drama , just getting it done ! Best recovery team in my books.
All the nuts, bolts, and washers you find are definitely future customers!
Wow!! That was a heavy pull!!
You shouldn't feel bad Rory, a lot of men have trouble getting up sometimes. The important thing is you stuck with it and got the job done!! LOL
Gonna have to build a 6x6 Super Trail Mater! With add-on driven axles so it can be like a desert centipede with a 100 ton pulling capacity!
Hi Rory, Shawn and Mike 💥 Love when trail mater gets love, regardless why😊💚❣️ I know everybody jokes how much she cost. Not many could afford the labor that's been put in😊
Mike “Look I’m picking up stuff, instead of my nose” 😎b
We need an "Assembly is the reverse of Disassembly" Shirt with a nice design.
Great video, as always.
The Heel kick!
The trailmater definitely out preforms its own weight, she absolutely requires special mechanical skills, 😊.
Always good to see you guys making it a point to pick up trash! Helps make it a cool thing to pick up trash cuz all the cool guys are doing it. Helps keep our trails open. And just nice don't to see garbage on the trails we all love.
Awesome thanks
Entertainment at its best!
Maybe time to add some water ballast tanks? Then you could shuttle the weight up front if needed or dump overboard if it’s not needed. It would also make for a good reservoir if someone needs it for their radiator on the trail in a pinch too.
Man i dont like seeing trail mater struggle especially on small stuff, its such a hard working beast that makes everything look easy so wen it doesnt do that it hurts abit
Wow, So surprised that ol trusty trail mater had such difficulty with that gladiator going up those hills.. I was thinking wow trailmater had trouble on the first short hill an was just walking up the longer hill then you hit the spot that said no more forward momentum try again.. That gladiator must of had alot of stuff packed inside it & inside the bed making it extra heavy.. The hot rocks & tires prolly didnt help much either..
Awesome quick job with the trail fix on the 2nd recovery..
The whole trailmater/moab motorsports crew Rory, Shawn & Mike yall keep up the great work & always having a positive outlook while overcoming all the different obstacles that randomly pop up while doing these recoveries/trail repairs..
lol the napkins 😂
Next year we want to see Rory in the Freedom 500!
Man what a pull
Awesome video as usual! Really enjoy watching your recoveries!
Us Overlanders are career couch potatoes that are finally getting out of the house now that March Madness is over. Can't wait until football seasons starts to bulk up again before hitting the trails. Thanks for sharing.
Shhhhh but Matt makes it look easy, don’t tell Rory 😎 it might just be the layers of yellow paint
Well,Trail Mater, the point is no matter how hard a time you had doing it. You done it,yes ou did m hmmm
😊🎉
The energy ya'll put into these videos is just awesome.
I freakin LOVE the outro every single time. The sarcasm is the best though!!!
21:14 king of the hill Mike with your little crown. Boy you sure have amazing views.
Kaw kaw!! Kaw kaw! I’m loooking down on you!😂🎉❤
Black Jeep of the family is always a problem...
If not for the title, I wouldn't have expected trailmater to eat so hard, you sure the parking brake wasn't on? lol. Hearing mater's engine on the verge of lug and it'll just keep on eating is impressive, you need cubic inches to do that.
MIke should get employee of the month or something, for finding a quite rare diamond-billed-rock-pecker beak, and then a few worth trail nuggets, a full medkit, and picked up trash. great job, MIke!
Rory almost busted an ankle doing that heal kick!!!😮😮
Wasn't that Shawn doing a heal kick?
@@Mark_Bridges it was
Great video
Thanks Mater team, I can barely keep my weed eater running! LOL
Great video!!.....Your bloopers, etc at the end are the best!!
Great Mike, now thanks to your cleaning, someone is not going to be able to find their way home!!!😂😂😂
You guys rock. Love you guys 🤙😎🇦🇺
With that specific load, Mater’s suspension is hitting its frequency of resonance, result of which is the hopping and unloading the traction ……..
Suspension needs dampening which means shock size and/or geometry or possibly stiffer springs to counter resonance frequency
Real easy to say, tougher to figure out how to overcome
Of course Rory probably already solving
Good luck, really enjoy the innovation and driving skills
I agree. He's got a traction bar in the back so it's not wrap. Might need to check the shocks or make some adjustments if they are adjustable. Might be a combination of the weight of that Gladiator and wear in the shocks.
Cool
Mike for the win!
Might I suggest putting beat juice. In the front tires of trailmater.
Love the med kit.
YOU GUYS ARE MY FAVORITE TOWING CHANNEL
