I have this Geiger counter and it is without a doubt the best one. The sound it makes is iconic unlike most handheld now which sound like digital watches.
If the individual counters are calibrated to different sources with different energies spectrums, it is normal to show different values in Siverts for the same source.
What firmware revision did you have when running the tests? What hardware revision is your unit? Apparently an auto voltage feature has been enabled to improve high rate detection.
They all read wildly different. The terra-p+ clearly reads the highest of all but that doesn't actually mean it's correct does it? Which one of these counters, if any, are actually spot on, calibrated, and correct? How do you calibrate them correctly so you know they are accurate?
The Terra-P reads higher does not means correct. The GMC-500+ reading can be calibrated to any high reading if you think that is correct. Under the menu Init Setup, Calibration item, you can change the conversion rate of uSv/h.
So why are you not worried about the amount of CPM from the objects that you are testing from? Wouldn't you want to be as far away from those test objects as possible, without some kind of protection? Are you not being exposed to the amount that the Geiger counter is detecting?
He's getting exposed but only locally and it maxed out at 3721 clicks per minute which only registered 24.18 microsieverts/hr. which is 580.32 microsieverts/day (locally exposed). So even if he wore it around his neck it for 24 hours strait it would still only be 0.58032 millisieverts. For comparison an abdominal CT is as high as 10 millisieverts. So basically even if he wore that compass 24 hours strait it would still be less than most medical imaging. I'm sure he doesn't wear it that very often and probably only to test his Geiger counter occasionally. Just don't get your micro and milli mixed up micro=10^-6 milli = 10^-3
Eco Test's website says the Terra-P + is based on a military unit called a "MKS-05 TERRA". It would be great to get hold of one of those. There appears to be two version, though. One looks identical to a Terra-P +, but it's black. The other has blu-tooth and the screen is about three times as large, with extra information on it. The blu-tooth version seems to be about twice the price of a Terra-P +, but the non blu-tooth version seems to be about the same price as a Terra-P +, except I can only find them for sale from Ukraine, with writing in Ukrainian.
As a newbie to detectors, I do wonder about this fascination across most YT channels, in regards high readings. Why I would want a detector, is to keep away from areas with high readings, as opposed to wondering how high it read, or which instrument is more accurate. High is high... that's all I to know.
Do you know of the Mazur Instruments PRM-9000? I really want one, but it's so expensive. I was just wondering if you have considered getting any of their Geiger Counters?
Partly disappointed to see that once the tube gets saturated it doesn't display "overload". I have a GMC 600 with the SBT-11 tube and based on what I've seen here I'm expecting that too will go quiet once it reaches about 3 mSv/h. If the radiation is too high I'd rather be alerted instead of dropping down to zero.
There aren't replica GP-4 masks as far as I'm aware, it will just be a surplus one. Only GOST filters will fit it properly so get modern Polish, Russian or Chinese filters, then it will protect you from Corona.

Terra P seems to hold it own, just a shame with that dated interface. any reason that many of the more potent ones seem to go for very segmented and restricted display, as info is info, and the more the better at once..
Great little thing. I like the display the click of it and this feature to simply hang it on the wall. Some people hanging a thermometer on the wall and some just having a radiation detector just so we know how much background radiation is there :-)) But to be honest personally I would go for the Radiascan-701A. A little more expensive but has all the features and range what we need.
Great Video! I've never heard a Geiger scream as much as that! If you don't mind me asking where did you get the check sources from? I have a CDV-700 and a GMC 320 Plus.
Generally old Geiger counters/Ion chambers, often the check sources are removed for postage reasons but now and again you pick up old Units that still have very hot check sources inside. Craziest one I was sent was a Chinese Type 75 Geiger with it's SR-90 check source in that makes most of my Geigers totally stop reading, it was originally a 5 Roentgen per hour (Equivalent) dose in the 1970s when the Geigers were made.
Brother buying the 500+, will wait for heavy discount. Terra P is 2x or 3x dearer now the £168 500+ gets on my nerves these prick hikes for massive profits.
I was freaking out when testing an old camera lens that put off 17 uSv/h and here you are handling 300+.
Takumar 50mm/55mm? I have a few of those.
Why was the lens putting out that much radiation?
