That was an amazing rendition of “Chop Suey.” Not overplaying at all, in my opinion. He definitely knows what he’s doing at all times, and the fills fit the song, as well as his advanced beats. He also has great feel, sound, and a superior pocket. Makes everything look effortless, which is the sign of a true master.
Definitely not over played. Nothing he plays is over played. His flow and own style makes the songs he covers sound amazing while still within the original. He’s gotta be top 3 drummers in the world.
He’s not overplaying, he makes all of his covers in his own style and they sound pretty awesome. If you just wanna listen to a cover that sounds like the original then he’s not for you, go listen to the original band then lol or someone who will cover it exactly the same which I know Estepario could probably do in his sleep lol.
haters and drummers who have no technique are going to say he plays too much because he is so over their heads on every level: talent, technique, creativity, ideas, and a whole list of things that do make him one of the best drummers and musicians in history.
Estepario was a couple of weeks ago suggested to me by RUclips. I got immediately addicted, he's one in a million, every clip I watched was an absolute pleasure and his interpretations make the songs much better. Okay, I'm also a huge admirer of musicians who have mastered their craft beyond the limits of perfection and this guy is one of those kinds.
This guy puts his extra chops in with such a tasty effort. This is the shit you could only think of but never put it in play. Imho he's the best on the planet that I've ever heard
wake up people, right at the very beginning of his playing he says "this is not how to play this song". He is just showing his amazing talent, technique and ability to totally create a drum track featuring the drums. That is what he does, and that is why he is so respected by other drummers, and musicians.
He adds so much texture and flavour to already super tasty drumwork. His latest videos on the single pedal double kick and triple kick are ridiculous. To still get tone out of such quick notes. The guy is in another sport let alone league. Love everything he does
In the everlong cover video he said that it's not how the song "should" be played. He's just having some fun with the songs. He's not trying to give a tutorial on how to play the song. Just demonstrating what he can do.
Been drumming for 30yrs. This guy is absolutely the best drummer I’ve ever seen. He’s revolutionizing the instrument and taking it to a different level.
He’s not overwhelming the song or overpowering the other instruments. It’s his palette & knowledge on how to use such spices in a musical dish that’s so flavorful. Alongside his dexterity, speed & overall precise technique it becomes fine percussive cuisine. Masterful & unafraid to be unique in his own skins. Human & drum skins. Rok on brahman
My personal opinion is that all of the people commenting that his drumming is too much are not drummers themselves. Any half decent drummer can recognize his technicality and what goes into playing like this. He is one of the cleanest drummers I have ever heard. I would put him up there with Matt Gartska(Animals As Leaders) and Nathan Camarena(Chon). The amount of time that this guy has put into nearly perfecting his craft is just insane. Maybe if the people that think he is too much would put half the time into practicing as they do commenting, they would be half way to this guys level.
My favorite Estipario video is the "This Intro Made History!", it's a short, and he plays it one handed...Kind of a funny story, the very first video I saw of El Estipario's was "Playing Heretic by Slipknot With One Hand", which, before watching the video, and knowing how fast Joey Jordison is being a Slipknot fan, I literally thought, "No way", thinking it would be impossible to play "Heretic" with only one hand...But it intrigued me, so I clicked on the short, and my jaw hit the freaking floor...He not only played "Heretic" with one hand, but he played the song better than Joey did...My mind was officially blown, and I have been in utter amazement watching all his videos since, but his video "This Intro Made History!", it's just so freaking insane, the counts, playing things with one hand, that would literally make my arm fall off playing that fast...Just one more thing, I am a big fan of Tool, and always thought that Danny Carey was the drumming king, after Neil Peart of Rush...Then El Estipario Siberiano took the reign in the matter of 60 seconds...
I think his disclaimer at the beginning negates any criticism of overplaying. That's basically what his channel is built on. In his million sub video he even said, being a musician was not his motivation to play drums. It was a challenge to see what he can do and to do the impossible. Don't go to a Lorna Shore concert expecting Phil Collins. And I think the fact that El Estepario has just the most immaculately clean pocket in the world while playing like this gives him a little bit of wiggle room on what is considered over playing as well. In this particular case, I don't think he over played. He stayed true to the structure of the song.
Brother, as a drummer I feel that he doesn't over play he just has his own way of jammin and as a fellow drummer I can't do anything but respect the level this man has gotten to its amazing
to people saying he is over playing, do not understand being a drummer. there is being live with your band and being in the pocket and then there is being on your own playing and adding more. he is in the studio playing with songs and he is incredible at it!
talent + dedication + practice = what you are seeing. this man probably has tens and tens of thousands of hours of practice. no doubt he is talented, but without endless practice you wouldn't see this level of playing. otherwise anyone that plays drums could replace Lars Ulrich
Not overplaying, just his thing. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Seriously, this guy has reached a pinnacle the rest of us mere mortals only dream of....he can play anything that pops into his head, effortlessly. My favorite video of his, tough call, but probably the recent 'Thriller' video
Its not a question of overplay. Its his way, his work and the way he plays. He is gifted, but not in drums. He is gifted in discipline, hard work, patience and preserverance. Him self made a video describing that his playing is a fruit of all of his hard work and practice routine, implying that anyone that has that determination can get to his level. Honestly, i believe this but i also think that he his very, very special in the way he hits those drum sets and the way he orchestrates his playing.
He drums in a way he will be noticed. It’s so good! And even non drummers respect his efforts massively. Practice makes perfect! I watched his bio and he is a top top person!
Whether he's overplaying is a matter of taste. Fact is that this guy is unique in his talent and style. And that's what i appreciate most in El Estepario. If you want to hear and see something you've never experienced before in drumming... Switch on his RUclips channel. That alone deserves the deepest respect imo.
He's so incredibly fast with his feet that when he's drumming in the spring he'll definitely have the garden full of loving rabbits...😂😂😂😂 This Man ist insane!👍😊
Too Much greatness. One of a kind. Way beyond your average or even great drummer. Unbelievable talent. I challenge any of his critics to duplicate what he does...
I love El Estepario's covers! He's so CLEAN and such a freaking BEAST on the drums! He totally SMASHES the songs and yet he keeps the spirit of the original song so that it's just BETTER. What he does just gives it so much OOMPH! My favorite video is honestly the Bongo Song.
All he's doing is putting his own spin on everything he plays.Personally I fucking Love it.I've never seen anyone play with such ease & efficiency behind a kit.His Chops are unique & unmatched.Jaw dropping every time.🤘🏻😲🔥🔥🔥
I feel everyone should enjoy what they do as much as he does. I thoroughly enjoy watching his videos and don’t have a single favorite, there’s too many to choose from.
Dude’s a beast!! He has the disclaimer “this is NOT how to play Chop Suey”. I watched videos of his now former band, Saratoga and he can play fast, stay in the pocket, and anything else necessary.
I'm not a musician, but this guy is the Stevie Ray Vaughn of drums. He can play a cover so well AND still own it. He can put his own spin on it and like it as much, if not more, than the original. But he doesn't do this with a few songs. He does it with everything he touches.
Every once in a while, I think maybe that was a bit too much, but I feel like in those moments he is really just pushing to the edge for fun. Most of the time I am just amazed at the complexity and finesse that he can bring to any song, any genre.
It's his own style, and he owns it. It's not for everyone. I can take it in small doses, but after a while it all sounds the same to me. Incredibly skilled!
You know, they said the same thing to Mozart... "oh there's too many notes"... They are still talk about him today. That being said he is a super talented player that refuses to color between the lines. Just remember those that can't fall into three categories 1) they complain 2) they teach 3) or they recognize greatness. Great reviews.
To those who say his drumming is too much: He's not trying to fit into a pop band and lay down a beat people will dance to. He's displaying the amazing ability that he has to play just about anything. And for that, why does he need to be anything but exactly who he is? There's no reason for him to make videos of himself playing the songs exactly as they are recorded or to simply lay back and do the Porcaro thing. That's clearly not his passion or the reason he plays. He pushes the boundaries of what is traditional and what has been accepted in the past. IMHO, this guy is the best out there. He's just astounding.
He is really unique, an entrepreneur for all, really all other drummers. He simply sets completely new standards. A positive mutation in the music world
Definitely not overplayed. Totally agree this is one of the best drummers in the world right now not overplayed it all very tasteful doing things most advanced drummers wouldn't even think of. I'd like to see what Matt gartska would say about
I have never seen or heard blast beats sound that good in a while. The level of precision of this guy is unreal. Usually I think blast beats sound awful because most people I have seen attempt it changes time signatures with every beat because they can´t keep a steady flow or pressure of every single beat. This guys double kicks and blast beat is on another level.
I love how you just went straight to the video and didn't interrupt the video as you give your opinion. Love it look forward to more of your content. 😊
Honestly, a lot of El Estapario Siberiano's drum covers are my favourite version of that particular song. Does he overplay? Of course. It's by design, and he admits this openly in several of his videos. And I love every single beat of it. Not just the actual parts he plays. Not just his power and technical skill, but his creativity, and especially the energy he brings to his performances. I think only Junna can rival him for sheer amount of fun visibly had while playing the drums. I'm not sure if you've checked her out yet [new to the channel; this is my second or third video I think] but her cover of Through the Fire and Flames is one of the most entertaining things I've ever seen in my life. Anyway, back to the topic at hand: I have like at least a dozen or more favourite El Estapario drum covers, but if I had pick just one [at least to start], the first that springs to mind is Always by Blink-182. This one is a perfect example of what I said about the visible enjoyment he gets from playing drums, as well as some of the creative changes he made to Travis' fantastic original track. It's right at the top of my "he made my favourite version" list. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/3w7lUVc3xpA/видео.html
Replying to my own comment because I thought of another top favourite that shares the qualities I mentioned above. Feeling This [also blink] is another great example from the aforementioned list of favourite versions of songs he made. ruclips.net/video/C_Epa6LyRGw/видео.html I love the way he adds [quite a lot on this one, honestly] of his own style and flavour, but maintains respect for/faithfulness to the iconic original groove Travis created. It is absolutely my favourite version of the song.
@@teammusketeers yeah, in addition to the mind-blowing skills and musicality on display in each track, he also brings a unique and highly contagious energy to his drum parts that I quite enjoy.
A lot of people said that hes drumming is too much but they need to understand that's is his style and they need to respect that and is very simple if they don't like the way he plays well just don't listen, so simple than that.
Why would we want him to just cover the song normal? We can find a million average drummers playing the song as written. We come here for the chops and impeccable timing.
He’s so good, OF COURSE he could play a note perfect cover! But what’s the point when that just makes you a “Good” or perhaps even “Great” drummer? If you’re actually a “Freak of Nature” drummer, then you can do whatever the hell you like because it sounds so fricken amazing!! 🤟🏻🤟🏻 Love his take on things. Personally, I think his “Gangnam Style” is God Level.
I know this video is 3 months old Colby, but you said something that triggered a thought in me. I have never seen an example of "live performance drumming" have the precision to make it recording quality. I think that is part of the source of the "he drums too much" but also, that, there is some artistic feeling to empty space, of which El Estepario fills (with nauseating ease). I appreciate the dichotomy in "arguments" but I find him absolutely fascinating to watch and listen to.
I am a big fan, but I also think that outside of his own studio, playing with a band, they would not appreciate it half as much as the people commenting here. A vand is a team, and i think he makes it clear that he is not a team player, doesn't even want to be. He wants to be the cebter of attention rhe entire song....every song, so he does what he does, and it's hard not too like.
Some people need to find a flaw in everything just to make themselves feel better about their own abilities. He is showing you what is possible and what can be done, he is putting his own style and flavour on other people’s songs. Stop nitpicking and love and appreciate what this guy is doing for drums and music in general.
He has amazing hands & legs coordination. He is just so good at drumming. True example of practice makes perfect! It would be a dream to play as good as he does 😅
Remember he has a smaller kit so he can GO CRAZY! Those that hate just can't imitate. He's a freak I always thought Dave Lombardo was the man. EL just plays 6000mph and doesn't even break a sweat. Much Love ❤
I want an album with him covering the drums. It makes the track speak so much more. He has me liking songs that I was completely turned off to. Dude's superb.
He overplays the originals but in a good way. Why fuck around? I've learned alot watching him. He's a beast and shares what he does. Selfless and inspriring. He's worth celebrating. No secrets just straight up tells it like it is. He admits that there is no real secrets, just grind. He's a gift to drumming.
You're right. He does add a lot more sauce to it and it sounds good. It does good work. People are hating because they didn't do it themselves but if they were doing it they would be in the opposite side too
Believe it or not, my favorite video of his involves no drumming. His video of just him talking a bit about himself and giving us a tour of his home and studio's that he co-owns with his two best friends from childhood, and the video of him explaining his reasons for drumming and a quick run-down of his life are my favorite video's of his. As for his drumming..., I couldn't reasonably pick one..., dozen as favorites. He never fails to blow my mind with what he does, especially when he heads it with something like; "It took me 120 takes to get this right".
It fits 💯 and isn't overplayed. I think since he is not playing in a band, he should work next to this channel as a professional drum teacher and "groove consultant" for professional drummers. I guess most of the big drummers can still learn from him and get plenty of inspirations.
"Let the dogs bark, that's a sign that we're moving forward" from Don Quijote. That means that El Estepario is doing really well, and people is already noticing him globally. Haters will always be haters, Fuck them. For me is really easy, if I don't like something, I just change the channel and move on. Nice video and keep up with the good work.
He said it himself "if people spent half as much time practicing as they do hating, the world would be a much better place "
nooo cause that means they would have to get off their asses

That was an amazing rendition of “Chop Suey.”
Not overplaying at all, in my opinion. He definitely knows what he’s doing at all times, and the fills fit the song, as well as his advanced beats.
He also has great feel, sound, and a superior pocket. Makes everything look effortless, which is the sign of a true master.
He straight up killed it and perfectly played
That was beyond perfectly bro. He added fills most mid to advanced level drummers couldn't hope to play. Dude is a complete beast.
Definitely not over played. Nothing he plays is over played. His flow and own style makes the songs he covers sound amazing while still within the original. He’s gotta be top 3 drummers in the world.
Haha…not overplaying? He is the definition of overplaying.
@@Plingplong32166 not when it actually sounds good and doesn’t take away from the song.
@Michael Stamps I think Johan was a little bit ironic 🤟💪👌
This one isn't an overplay but most of his covers he definitely overplays. This one fit because the song is naturally chaotic.
@@TheUnusedCrayonThey’re RUclips covers he’s adding he’s own sauce and displaying his talent. I’d rather see this than a generic cover of the song
Anything he ADDS to a song just shows his authenticity!

After reading your comment I realized that nothing more needs to be said. 👍
Yep his own style is overplaying.
Real drummers admire and appreciate this guy, skill less clowns are the ones who criticize him.
Everything he does is over playing.

I love the way he adds [quite a lot on this one, honestly] of his own style and flavour, but maintains respect for/faithfulness to the iconic original groove Travis created. It is absolutely my favourite version of the song.
Thought I was the only who felt this wY 😅his covers just give that extra "ummmphhh"
Mans is a necromancer with all them ghost notes
He’s so good, OF COURSE he could play a note perfect cover! But what’s the point when that just makes you a “Good” or perhaps even “Great” drummer?
If you’re actually a “Freak of Nature” drummer, then you can do whatever the hell you like because it sounds so fricken amazing!! 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Love his take on things.
Personally, I think his “Gangnam Style” is God Level.
He’s my favorite drummer hands down. He’s beyond a drumming god!
👍🏻🤘🏻
Okay. Coming from a female percussionist who's favorite band was SOAD, his talent is INSANE. It's not too much. It's perfection.
He double, triple, quadruple times all of it! Just a masterclass. Greatness😊
It would be a dream to play as good as he does 😅
The guy is a machine. Probably one of the best in world
I’m not a drummer player. I love the drums and this guy is a whole lotta new level he’s awesome this one is one of my favourites.
Nothing like extra frosting on an ice cream cake... I love this guys salsa!
His little solo rolo break in "take on me" is some wicked smacking cake.
Remember he has a smaller kit so he can GO CRAZY! Those that hate just can't imitate. He's a freak I always thought Dave Lombardo was the man. EL just plays 6000mph and doesn't even break a sweat. Much Love ❤
Dude just took the song to 11! 🔥 can’t go wrong with MORE DRUM!!!
I personally think this guy is some sort of AI robot, completely mad. And that Varus kit sounds insane 😊
He is showing what is humanity possible on the drums, he states that it’s not how it is so posed to be played but can be played.
He's having fun. He has the skills to do whatever he wants, and that's ok, this is art.
I love listening to his covers in my vehicle cranked up
And thriller is my go to mainly for the length of play
It’s never too much…always try to improve yourself, new styles…be creative..new sounds😉🥂cheers to this guy..
His style is NOT too much. His style is REVOLUTIONARY!
This guy is probably one of the best in the entire world right now
I think maybe even the best 😅
He plays the hardest Songs with one Hand 😅
He practices like 8 hours a day without fail it's like us working our jobs. He'd unbelievable
He is insane. Everything he plays sounds crazy good
I'm been to a lot of concerts and that guy is the greatest drummer I've ever seen
It fits 💯 and isn't overplayed. I think since he is not playing in a band, he should work next to this channel as a professional drum teacher and "groove consultant" for professional drummers. I guess most of the big drummers can still learn from him and get plenty of inspirations.
"Let the dogs bark, that's a sign that we're moving forward" from
Don Quijote.
That means that El Estepario is doing really well, and people is already noticing him globally.
Haters will always be haters, Fuck them.
For me is really easy, if I don't like something, I just change the channel and move on.
Nice video and keep up with the good work.
Gran baterista, le he descubierto hace poco y es brutal, tanto como músico como persona.
Jesus christ this dude is a beast on the drums, he defo added his touch for some might be too much but I freaking loved it! ❤
He doesn’t make any one look bad. He put in the work.
He gives you something to strive for an inspiration if open minded enough.
