@tylor305 Triggers are electronics that replace the sound of the drum (or layer on top of it). It's basically turning an acoustic drum into an electronic one. For fast double bass on a single kick drum, it's essential since without it, the fast hits turn into a muddy mess. Imagine doing a super fast roll on your floor tom.
So you can hear it clearly and fine. Triggers REQUIRE skill to play, contrary to popular belief. Using samples like this, it's MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to hear how sloppy someone is mainly due to the fact the sound comes straight from electronics that are built to withstand the beats given to the processor. The sloppier you are, the worse it sounds, MUCH worse than if you just had a mic.
@HARDYZ777 good pedals, preferable long boards, keep them set a little close to the head, and good technique, like keep your feet towards the bottom of the pedals. now im a guitarist, but i learn all this from my bands drummer
@ian48065 Triggers do make playing at high speeds easier. However, without triggers you wouldn't hear the individual notes and it would be a barrage of low frequencies that wouldn't have any definition. Also, he is playing on the 'sweet spot' of the pedals, being the part of the pedal that one can maintain decent pedal attack without sacrificing much needed energy to play such high demand music. And I agree - in metal Triggers are like guitar amps. Necessary for clarity and definition.
I have my pedals set at almost a 90 degree angle, my spring tension at about between 60-70%, working on my speed, I generally play with heel down, any tips on how to increase speed
Ankle Motion only Heel Down is great to build Shin Muscles and increase endurance but shitty for fast speeds So work on Ankle Motion or if you want to get even faster Swivel (it can come to you naturally when you learn Ankle Technique)
Some producers quantize the recorded notes, put them in place so it sounds like a computer, but it depends on the skill level of the drummer I believe. Some drummers get it all right, some don't. I record with triggers but I need a bit of editing afterwards as I'm not perfectly fluent with kickrolls.
@ian48065 I don't use triggers to play faster cause it's impossible i use them to be loud enough so the crowd can hear what i'm playing, i've been playin drums for 19 years dude i know exactly what i'm talkin about triggers are made to give your bass drums that little extra volume over loud ass guitars, i don't think your a musician cause i real metal musician doesn't care what other people think about their set-up i will always use trigger. its harder to play with triggers than without them.
@sniizzei Triggers. Look them up. People think that they are Cheats but they arent. Its like hooking up an amp to amplify the sound of a "Singer or Guitar" And it is Awsome. For those of you who think Triggers Are a cheat Maybe you should do some research and not Make assumptions.
Just wanted to know, when people record using triggers, do they match the beat up in a computer to get every beat perfectly in time, or is it just pure raw drum playing? Coz I'm not sure if it's just that you can hear the drums over the music but you can hear slight imperfection that I can't hear on the record
@Blastphemer in other words your double bass isn't perfect with respect to the song, (same with your remastered version of Permitting the Noble dead) amazing either way!
triggers help for recording => listening phase REGARDLESS of what you think because it helps you hear clearly as a music CONSUMER. so shut up about cheating with triggers, you're wrong, but i do believe in natty sounds
@ian48065 You obviously aren't a metal drummer. all GREAT metal drummers use triggers. Chris adler, Inferno, hellhammer, george kollias, derek roddy you name 1 metal drummer that doesn't use triggers just try?
perfect blast footwork!!!!!
you never fail to amaze jan your skills are unmatched and i always love when you cover my favorite bands keep those horns flying!!!!!
Newest video to my favorites list
@Blastphemer
I'm so glad you decided to cover that song! :)

Amazing ankle motion technic !!!!!!
damn it! perfect bassdrum!!! great jod man!
@Blastphemer
starting @ 3:00 there is no double bass but gallops of bass hits. ;)

very nice jan

Don't play heel down :'D
Ankle Motion only

PS, 237 is probably the most random BPM I've ever seen in a song.
@tokenamigo I asked Jan about his foot technique, he uses ankle motion with a mix of swivel
very nice footspeed!
that is really impressive! thanks for posting....i wanted very badly to see what it looks like.
HOLY ASS
Do you think you could put up a lesson video on your technique???
Hey jan very cool, axis or trick?

@gh2master101 Yes, I would really like to see anyone doing that too because it's a leg- and handbreaking song!
@NicholasJamesWells the songs was recorded on 238 bpm ;)
Would love to see you cover The Essential Salts by Nile.

@Galactis YESS!!! Skyrim reference FTW!!
Looks like your tapping. Can you bring the beaters way back and do it really loud? Even kollias taps himself, lol.
Nice speed man!
you should do bringer of plauges
great!
He’s using single strokes and can play well over 300 bpm, right?
no
Is he using heel down or the floating technique.
dang, i can play that fast heel down but like half that speed on heel up, man your good
@sniizzei

Can you play Hey Jude by The Beatles?
LA MEJOR EJECUCION DE UN GRAN BATERISTA SIN DUDA ES EL MEJOR...
You use such minimal ankle movement during your fast double bass that your pedal input is almost vibratory.
next level!
this is just savage
@picball39 i was gonna do a meshuggah-bleed tutorial video for the pedal stuff. its a bad song! but bad as in good! :D
right around 2: 40 his ankles/legs are like KILL ME PLEASE!!!!!!
@Blastphemer doesn't jon rice from jfac use heel down?
Wicked pedal work mate, but sounds like the top works not so good or tight
2.52-3.15 nuff said
tips on speed?
@PMontanaro5 that's a trick pro v1
@robertperil no its not????
in your daimonis cover(excuse spelling) u used heels down now ur using heels up
ok please explain triggers???
hey jan does long boards or regular pedals make a difference? i wear size 12 shoes and regular pedals can be troublesome
awesome....

does he use the AXIS PERCUSSION A-772 dubblebass pedal?
Do a drum cam :) with music
thats sick as hell wish i could move my feet that fast for that long lol

Why do you put your foot back at some parts?
That bass drum sounds fucking evil!! Deffo the trigger and module from helllllllllll!!
Do a cover of Here Comes The Kraken - Don't Fail Me Darko too dude ;)
What tempo does this hit on the 16th note stretches on feet? (I think this whole song is probably one tempo to begin with though?)
237 bpm
Tim Yeung is a fucking beast to come up with this shit
You could totally be tim yeung's replacement lol
@caveman15100 no! I NEVER used heel down....it looks like heel down but never try to use heel down its shit
Beat me to it.
@FutileExistence I know but I prefer to shred

Ow cramp.
what kind of pedals do you use
What are the setting like on your pedals?
The pedals are backwards so that he can move his heels fast this is the same with Tim Yeung its known as kick drumming.
Keep of Kalessin - Vengeance rising is up next!
axis?
do you use Axis A or X ?
this dude is kind of a robot
machine
Theyre axis pedals
@st3vo132 Triggers. No matter how hard you hit they always produce a sound of same volume.
@TheLimitOfHumanPain balance
f*#kin' awesome, man!! |m|
@Blastphemer
in other words your double bass isn't perfect with respect to the song, (same with your remastered version of Permitting the Noble dead) amazing either way!
the pedals sounds like bullets like 50cal bullets shooting lmao
Your right foot is just raping the bass while your left is having to do the beast heel swerving to keep up, still unbelievable though keep it up. :)
I'm so fed up of people arguing about triggers...
I use to double kick that fast, then I took an arrow in the knee...
Fucking good ass job couldnt you have put it so we see the beaters hitting the head instead, i think it woulda been way better imo.
Bringer Of Plagues maybe? ; >
