  • In this video I show you how to set up your ZOOM H6 Handy Recorder so you skip sync audio and video in post.
    This workaround will save you hours so you don't have to sync your audio and video is post. It's a simple setup and can be done with any wireless mic pack. This tutorial also works with any other External Mic Recorder such as Tascam, Roland, Zoom, Beachtek, Saramonic

    What I normally do is I have my recorder near the camera. And say a line "recording video number 1" and then "clap" and the audio of the clap is recorded on the camera and the zoom. That way I just line up all the claps to the same time line and mute the camera track :) so I'm just using the cameras audio for a reference point :)

    This is a great tip. For me, I just record the dirty audio on my cameras, then record all my high quality audio to my Zoom and then use DaVinci Resolve's sync via waveform to sync my audio in post and so far Resolve is batting 1000. The only thing I still need to factor in is redundancy. I think this step would help for that more than syncing as that's not really an issue for me.

    • @itsgussy
      @itsgussy  6 месяцев назад

      Glad you found a way to incorporate into your workflow. DaVinci is great at syncing, for me I continue to do this since I’ve done it for the longest and a lot of my jobs require a fast turn around so having clean audio from the beginning saves time

    Just out of curiosity if you are close to the front of the stage, have you ever had the H6 connected to your mirrorless via the Hot shoe ?

    • @itsgussy
      @itsgussy  Год назад +1

      It doesn't transfer audio via the hot shoe, unless you're using the dedicated Sony Mic. Also if you meant if I mount it to the hot shoe, I never do. It's too bulky and that would defeat the purpose of my using this technique to skip syncing audio in post.

    If I will be recording a live jazz concert using the H6 and I wanted to sync audio in my footage, which set up will you suggest? My camcorder has bad audio, that’s why I am considering a H6 recorder. And like you, I hate doing the sync post video. I found your video that gave me a god idea. Do I need to invest in a good mic?

    • @itsgussy
      @itsgussy  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks. You mentioned your camera has bad audio. The zoom H6 is also a microphone, I’m not sure what camera you have but you can connect the H6 as a mic via the Line Out to your camera. Or if you’re going to connect to the audio mixer make sure you get a master out to record to the H6, then use a lave mic system to sync the audio to your camera

    • @fedejesusm
      @fedejesusm 4 месяца назад +1

      So the solution would be a combi of an H6 and a lav mic connected to my camcorder? With SD card in both or just the camcorder?

    Makes sense for syncing, but not much beyond that... because you're downgrading the audio a number of times. If you're just vlogging, and your audience is watching in bed or on the toilet, then this is a great solution. If you ever have a plan to have your content played in 4k with decent headphones or an audio system and want to utilize what your H6 is capable of, you definitely don't want to change your analog (natural sounds) signal to digital (zoom recieved), back to analog (analog out), to digital again (changed to bluetooth signal), back to analog (to the analog in on your camera) and finally digital to your camera file. It saves time, yes... but if you want quality audio from your H6, the less changes you do the better... in my opinion.

    • @itsgussy
      @itsgussy  11 месяцев назад

      Good opinion. It’s definitely all in your workflow, and deliverable’s. You can use a combination of this method or a one or the other.

    Question for you, when you upload the video from the camera do you have multiple channels for the different mix inputs on the zoom to edit separately or is it all in one single audio track in the video file?

    • @itsgussy
      @itsgussy  2 года назад

      Since I use the splitter I get 2 channels synced with the camera. If I use all 4 channels on the mic and use the ride to send to my camera it’s still 1 track coming from the zoom. The advantage here is if I want to sync more channels from the zoom the automated syncing in post is much easier
