Why the birth of Christ is so important at Christmas - AUTHENTIC with Shawn Boonstra

  • Back in the earliest years of Christian history, a lot of deep thinkers struggled to wrap their minds around the concept of Jesus being not just a man, and not just God, but instead BOTH things at the very same time. 🤯 How could the eternal Almighty Himself come to this earth as a real flesh-and-blood human? Shawn Boonstra takes a little time to examine that claim in this special Christmas episode.

    About Authentic:
Host Shawn Boonstra makes it easy to understand how philosophy and biblical principles can help you live an authentic life in the 21st century.
We talk about real existential questions-stuff that everybody wonders about: the meaning of life, purposeful living, the nature of human existence, the thoughts of great philosophers and how those have impacted our culture and how we live-the nature of love, relationships, emotions, self-awareness . . . But most of all, we explore what it means to live an authentic human existence.
New episodes on Saturdays. Watch on RUclips and a growing list of North American TV networks and stations.

Christmas was a midwinter party that celebrated the birthday of at least twelve gods. Eleven of whom were born of a virgin and seven of whom were dying and rising gods. Makes it a little less special for your particular belief, but a good time anyway.

Love your message of goodwill even though we currently find biblical truths being suppressed all over the world by forces of darkness.
    Romans 1:18-20
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

A wonderful message of hope in the One who endured the same basic trials we all experience in life.
Jesus was conceived in December and born at the end of September nine months later. Backtracking His birth and His cousin John's birth, and Simeon then Anna a prophetess who both were present in the temple when Mary & Joseph brought Jesus in for His dedication to declare who Jesus was.
We also read that shepherds were out in the fields watching their flocks. That would *NOT* have happened if it was December. They return their flocks before the heavy rains arrive to keep them and themselves safe. History proves this to be true. We also have who was ruling at that time that causes the census i.e. tax collection which was done at the end of harvest which enabled the people to pay the tax. So, this causes the time of His birth to be in the early Autumn, right after harvest time, just before the heavy rains and winter season arrives.
We need to know what scripture and history says so as to be faithful to God's Word and not follow cunningly constructed fables and traditions of men. We need to once again be unique in our faith as in the early development of our church. IF we look & sound the same as other churches who teach falsehoods, why would anyone want to join our fellowship... just to keep a different day from what most Christians do?

I'm sure everything you've said is right and true, but are you trying to win friends or arguments? Yes Dec. 25 is not the actual day of His birth, but so what. That's when people are the most receptive. Therefore those of us who want to be as wise a serpents and harmless as doves will go with the flow on what is a side issue. Being "unique in our faith" should not mean being annoying.

The Bible says nothing that Jesus was born on December 25th? So makes the birth of Christ important on December? Can you guide me to the text in the bible that says Jesus was born on December 25th?

If Jesus had been a normal man living a life of sin, His sin would have been enough to keep Him out of heaven even if He did grow to become perfect while on earth. He had to live a perfect life for the whole time He was here. If He had been a perfect man (but only a man) and died, He would have only been able to save one other person. He would not have been able to get out of the grave Himself,
because someone had to pay for sin. It is because He was God (and therefore infinite) that He could make an infinite sacrifice and save as many as will come to Him. But it was humanity who sinned, and humanity must die for sin. As God alone, He could not save human beings. Therefore, for the infinite God to make this infinite sacrifice, the infinite God had to become a finite man.

@@lesmillman not true. He lied about John the Baptist being the prophet Elijah, 2 He disrespected his parents many times. 3 he harvested wheat on sabbath. 4 He tole people they would have to hate their parents to follow him aka break the 5tth. 5 He talked to the dead, necromancy aka meeting with Moses and Elijah. 6 he destroyed the livestock property of a farmer by killing his pigs, aka theft. 7 he false prophesised that the people there at that time would be alive when he set up his kingdom. 8 he claimed to be able to forgive sin aka blasphemy.
as to the jewish scripture he fulfilled 0 of them not 300. the jewish scripture never said a virgin born man/god would be a human sacrifice. Look up Tovia Singer. Also your Greek NT bible is so full of errors that it is easy to prove christinity is lying when they say it is inerrant

I deny Jesus. Jesus was not god. The Jewish bible completely refutes christianity. Jesus was not the messiah and God does not use human sacrifice to atone for sin. The Greek NT bible is not inerrant and thus is not from God. Before you claim that I do not know what christianity is know that I am an ex christian who DENIES JESUS
