    After a number of cheap TV boxes, I finally pulled the trigger on the 2017 Pro in Dec of 2018 & of course they release a new one with ATMOS in 2019 🤦‍♂which I had to pick up a couple of years later. Yesterday I got my hands on some new ATMOS demos & found VLC struggling with it (weird). So thought I'd give Plex a try & this vid was fantastic, simple clear & best of all, it worked! 👌🏻
    PS. The demo files work great, although it did take some time to populate!

    I want to connect an external SSD (2TB) to my new nvidea shield tv pro, to install and use Plex. Quick questions: in the nvidea pro, there are 2 usb ports. In which one should i connect the extra SSD hard drive? also should i first copy my movies to the SSD on my pc before connecting and setting up plex on the nvidea? if yes, are there folder names I should use on the external SSD?

    I have a 2019 Shield that I use as a Plex client from my Windows 10 PC. All content comes from a 12TB external drive plugged into the Shield. I also have another 320GB drive pluged in for additional internal storagge. I've tried several times to set up the Shield as a Plex server, so I don't have to use the computer. I always get an error that "Something went wrong" when it attempts to setup the server after enabling storage permissions. Any help would be appreciated.

      I had that issue once, but was able to get it resolved. Maybe try clearing Plex's app cache and data on the Shield? I seem to recall being able to also move past that screen, and seeing multiple media library folders, like duplicates of each, in the Plex frontend. Was able to delete, and everything was fine in the back end. Hope this helps!

    • @NoExceptionsGuy
      @NoExceptionsGuy 8 месяцев назад +6

      you need to delete the already set up Nvidia Shield servers from Plex Web on your PC. I had duplicates etc and had the same issue. Then setup servers again from your Nvidia Shield as usual.

    How do you transfer files between your plex server and your download device? How's the quality on streaming?

    • @CupOfMoe
      @CupOfMoe Год назад +8

      I transfer files over the network, but if your content is on an external drive, you can disconnect that USB drive, plug it into your PC, and transfer files that way, so long as it's not formatted as an extension of the SHIELD's internal drive.
      Streaming quality is excellent. Most of my content is encoded such that the Shield TV direct plays, even Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray rips. I've been able to run 3 1080p transcodes just fine. Overall, really happy I switched from a mid-tower PC to my Shield.

Tried to follow this vid, but from 1:48 - 2:24. w.t It starts with 5 Movie buttons, what one, ones would you choose and why, there is myriad of further media options that again have the same name. TOTALLY CONFUSED. Had to exit @ 9:40 Have you watched back your vid ????.

    H Tech up your life,
    I have been enjoying your you-tube clips on the NVIDIA TV Shield Pro.
    Further to this, Can you advise whether NVIDIA TV Shield Pro will AI upscale plex content and youtube content played via this device. NVIDIA shield documentation only "officially " associated this with Netflix and Amazon Prime content but I have much content in Plex and You-tube I wish to optimise.
    Many thanks. Michael.

    • @RickPaquin

      I have it working on my new shield pro. I found it easier to configure it on a browser by using the shield's IP with the PLEX usual port. It won't do closed captioning though, so it's useless to me. When I first installed the client, it picked up the PLEX server on my NAS, and I did have closed captioning. I had to shut down that server for the server on the shield pro to configure properly. But after that, no closed captioning. My assumption is that the server on the shield pro has issues with the captioning.

    I'm on the Shield PRO 2019, and I have the Plex app. I'm also signed in. . But I do NOT see "Media Server" in the "SETTINGS". . . . Where do i go? Also, when i install Plex on my Shield, I do not get the screens to "enable media server" or set up libraries, or anything like that.

    • @TechUpYourLife
      @TechUpYourLife  10 месяцев назад +1

      In that case, I'd suggest trying to clear your cache + data, uninstall/reinstall. Then make sure it's the most updated Plex app (should be). My Shield Pro 2019 and 2017 both had the server and enable server options at the onset!

      Great question! Are you asking if the Shield TV can upscale server side or if the Shield TV can upscale as a Plex client?

    • @dad2979
      @dad2979 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@TechUpYourLife Yeah, sorry I may have missed this from the video - but I hadn't ever heard of people using the unit as a server, and it would be a tremendous value if it could share it's AI upscaling to other local clients that don't have the hardware to do that. I have tons of 480p content and this would be amazing.

    • @TechUpYourLife
      @TechUpYourLife  11 месяцев назад +1

      I use a 2017 Shield TV Pro as a Plex server/HTPC with Kodi, and another Shield 2019 Pro with a different TV as a Plex client. AI upscaling works pretty well, and 480p content is watchable even on my LG C2 OLED. Not nearly as good as 1080p or of course 4K, but better than my Toshiba DVD player despite its upscaling. Your best bet may be using the Shield TV as a Plex client/server combo, or if you do have local media with the Shield, use Kodi/VLC and rely on the Shield's upscaling.

      @TechUpYourLife  10 месяцев назад

      @@rileyheeren8336 yep, it should! I mostly use it at home on a few TVs/projectors, but out of home streaming while traveling works great. You won't want to run a ton of simultaneous streams, but 2-3 works perfectly, assuming your content is encoded properly.
