  • We learned why elephant insurance is NOT included with our tuktuk rental. This is why you keep a distance from wild elephants. Lesson learned.

    I would like to clarify what is happening in the elephant scene, as many commenters clearly didn't understand what happened.
    Two of our friends were still INSIDE the red tuktuk after it had been knocked to the ground when the elephant charged at us. That is why my friend was yelling and clapping at the elephant; it was an attempt to lure the elephant away from the red tuktuk so that our friends inside could escape unharmed. He wasn't "harassing" the elephant for fun or for views, as some people have suggested in the comments. Our mistake, as mentioned repeatedly in the video, was stopping so close to the elephant for photos.

      You were unlucky that there were no large vehicles nearby at that time. Maybe a bus or a truck would have chased him away.. with their hone of course. But, sometimes elephants attack busses also if they get too close. Your friend did the best he could. Glad all are safe.

Especially in a country that is going through a crisis it is not so cheap to get vehicles repaired at a reasonable cost. Its weird that you did not know earlier not to play around with wild elephants or any wild animals for that matter. I am sure there are wild animals in Canada. Doubt you or any other Canadians go around provoking bears to learn that you should not get too close to them. No respect for the country or nature. You did not show any remorse or even apologise in the video. All you said was you learnt your lesson. At least write an apology to the locals in the comments and pin it on the video. I think there is a lot of anger around what has happened here and I agree with almost all of it. Can I add that it would be best to change the title of your video to "we caused the elephant to attack us" considering your group caused chaos, trauma, and hardship to everyone using the road at the time and in the future. Elephants have an excellent memory and will now attack any tourist, motorbike, and red and green tuks. And yes, if you were genuine, you would have taken the effort to find the owners of the bike and paid their dues. The elephants are wild and I don't know what made anyone of you think it would be ok to stop and go near an elephant just to take a photo. Specially when you notice no one else is doing so. I watched the whole video and know you have understood your mistake, but I think the frustrations are coming from the lack of actions taken after to remedy the damages you have caused as a result of your actions.

    @Ben Brasnett You didn't HAVE to share the content. The only reason you are sharing it is because any comment posted, even negative ones, make a splash on the RUclips algorithm. I'm glad you realise what you did was utterly stupid. Because it WAS utterly incomprehensibly stupid. If a grizzly bear was wallking by the side of the road, would you stop so close trying to get pictures of it? I doubt it. The very same rule applies to wild elephants.
    You also don't seem to realise the repercussions of what you've done... the fact that you agitated and made this elephant angry means they take that attitude with them to any village or other person they come across in that moment. Once it left you lot alone, it'll take that annoyance to the nearest village, which puts the people in the village in danger.
    10 seconds worth of a Google search would've informed you about the wild elephant population in Sri Lanka, and that would be you doing due diligence. You're not a child... you're a grown man. So this isn't just a mistake, it's purposeful avoidance of rules in another country for clickbait views.
    For a person who travels and has been a self-proclaimed nomad for 10years, it seems you've learned the square root of f**k-all in your travels. You and your ilk don't seem to read government association warnings on wildlife, won't take a guide who could give you a better idea of the country and the culture, think that budget travel means you can do whatever the hell you want to create "experiences" (your words), completely disregarding what those experiences means for the people of the vicinity in the country. You just behave like a bunch of c*nts, the poorest representatives of your country of origin, dripping with entitled white privilege. Your kind might as well stay at home.

    • @benbrazyoutube
      @benbrazyoutube  Год назад

      At 11:15 you can see us both check our phones and both say "no service". And we had no service along that entire stretch of highway. And what would calling the police have done anyway? "Hey, uhhh... we don't know where our friends are... and there's an elephant on the highway..." You see, in extraordinary situations like this, adrenaline kicks in, rational thought goes out the window, and instinct takes over. You don't know any of us, but I assure you that nobody is themselves after the beginning of this encounter.

    • @lankanstoic5726
      @lankanstoic5726 Год назад +6

      Shows how little you know about elephants in Sri Lanka , most captive elephants are rejected from the jungle and that's how they find there way to a sanctuary they won't survive one day in the jungle some are actually rehabilitated and put back to the jungle if they are young enough and some captive elephants were domesticated like 2000 years back (records are there even 6000 BC Indians domesticated ) and there calf's also don't survive or adapt back in the jungle , so a country like India Sri Lanka will always have captive elephants due to above reasons how much ever animal rights people shout because they are so far away from the truth , keeping elephants chained up or abuse is always wrong but having a negative Idea on domesticated or captive elephants just shows you lack of knowledge about the situation

    • @lankanstoic5726
      @lankanstoic5726 Год назад +4

      Only 150 of this domesticated elephants are in captivity and out of there only two females are in the conditions or healthy enough to give birth so people who are shouting can be happy when that bloodline of domesticated elephants end in few generations , all other captive elepahnts who end up in santuaries were rejected from the jungle or their heards left to die before human intervention,they live free to roam life inside santuaries, small ones they try to rehabilitate with other small rejected ones and releases back to the jungle , some join other heards some get rejected and some released elepahnts form Thier own heards and survive , you only tiny bit about elephants and how much people love elephants and treat them well even though they end up been captive elepahnts for unavoidable reason
