Oh woh! When you live in rural Australia and have to get through up to five gates on your own property, to get between the road and your house, the seat belt alarm makes you want to take to it with a sledge hammer but now I know how to disable that. That for me is very exciting. This is THE best thing I have learned from watching these videos. Thank you!

You made my Subaru experience SO much better with the seatbelt alarm tip!! I wear my seatbelt, but my driveway is 1/3 mile long and I stop to get the mail at the end, and would have to buckle to avoid the alarm. No more!! Best tip EVER!! Thank you!!!!

The ability to put the key fob into sleep mode seems like a hidden feature. That, combined with the unlock code seem like it would be a handy feature if you wanted to go on a hike or canoe trip or something and wanted to lock the key fob inside the car and avoid risking losing your keys out on the trail.

You can defeat the start/stop by simply turning the wheel 1/8 to 1/4 turn as you stop. With time you’ll learn to “feel” when the steering pump is engaged. That’s far enough to keep the engine running while you’re in a line at the drive through or simply at a stop. Once you start to roll, lightly hold the steering wheels and the front wheels will start to head straight again.

Is the seatbelt alarm tip seat specific? I don't see any reason to disable the driver seat, however in my 2017 Crosstrek any weight above about about 30 lbs will trigger the passenger seat alarm. would be nice to be able to fix that issue, but I'd be concerned about how that ties into the airbag systems as well.

Another nice thing about doing this technique once you get it done did I say you have to do it three times I think I did another nice byproduct of this is now cruise control will activate without you having to put the seat belt on, so this sequence does more than just stop the chime noise it also bypasses the ability to turn on the cruise control without having to put the seat belt on. And it kind of makes sense that both of those things are tied together

@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville: You’re most welcome. Great job.
A question if I may: Which SUV do you recommend as the best all around vehicle for long road trips, with both on and off road capabilities. I’m in the market for a brand new SUV to use on our upcoming (post pandemic) road trip from San Diego to Vancouver (Canada) and back. On the way we’ll be making frequent off road excursions as well; hence the necessity for both highway and off road capabilities. Comfort, security, and reliability are extremely important to us; a good gas mileage is also important, but not a deal breaker. There will just be myself and my better half, no kids or pets, so no need for a third row seating. So far my short list includes: 2021 Land Rover Defender 110, 2021 Subaru Outback Touring XT, 2021 Subaru Forester Touring, 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Badlands, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, and Range Rover Sport SRV. Your thoughts, opinions, and recommendations on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    1. Easier way to turn off start stop:
Press the little car on bottom left of main screen, go to Other tab, then toggle off. I would love to see a permanent off (yes I understand I'm burning more gas and more emmisiton.)
-From the main little car screen you can also turn on AVH very helpful when at drive though or long light.
    2. I put my key fob in sleep mode and lock it in the car all the time when I go to the beach. Then use the hidden pin to get back in the car.

I saw another video that talked about the auto start stop function; it stated it would save about 0.02 gallons per tank (it I’m remembering the “per tank” correctly). That doesn’t seem worth it. But it was more of a “fuel efficiency” qualification, to meet a regulation, and was only feature, not an actual fuel saver - sad.

My dealership did a software update that adds a button to the console that turns auto start/stop off. It still comes back every time I stop and restart, but pushing one button is easier than the tap dance I had to do before. ... By the way, my dealership also told me that within the next few years it will be illegal for new cars to include the ability to turn auto start/stop off.

Good info and the secret button press would have probably helped when this happened.... I tried to start the car from inside my home to get the a/c running as it was 95 out. But the app just seemed to go into ‘wait’ mode with a spinning ‘I’m thinking’ sign. So I closed the app and headed out for work. Got into the car and push started with the button. Found I needed something and as I got out the lights and beep went off 4 times. I didn’t think anything of it so I got out and closed the door. When I returned the car was locked and the fob would not operate. None of the buttons. My car was running and my phone was in the car and I was locked out. Not even the proximity handle would operate. Went in and go the spare fob but it would not operate either?? Looked on internet and realized I could use the valet key so went back out and remembering the secret button I pressed it for a long time and the car just began beeping at me with one long beep. Realizing I never set the button up I tried the valet key which at this point wouldn’t work so I went back to the internet and after finding nothing decided to retry the valet key. The long steady beep stopped while I was inside the house so I tried the valet key and it worked this time. I was able to get to work and left the car unlocked because I didn’t know what I had messed up. Going back to the car later everything operated as normal again. Fob and all. So I set a secret code just in case and locked the car with the fob. Now I get 5 beeps when I lock it instead of just one!? But it works as normal otherwise.
    Now what??

    • @EndOfLineTech
      @EndOfLineTech 3 года назад

Use your head. And probably will be able to figure it out.
Let’s think of it as a microwave that looses its time if it looses power.
If your neighborhood looses power (like removing the battery) does it reset?
If you unplug your toaster does that reset the microwave???
Does flipping the breaker in your breaker box that powers your kitchen where the microwave is plugged in at reset the microwave??????
      All the same logic... here..
What if you remove the fuse for the HVAC system? Will that reset it?
If you are looking for the fuse to pull; what fuse, leading to what component do you think will reset the system? I don’t even know but I have a pretty educated guess that I won’t tell you. But will give you a hint on this guess just in case you can’t figure it out.... I’ll wait
      ....
Let’s think logically (I know hard to ask in RUclips comments) what is the thing responsible for alerting you, both audibly, and visually that the seatbelt is unlatched 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 hmm this is tough. Using my brain is hard maybe I should leave a RUclips comment...

I've used PIN code unlock on (almost) every Subaru Legacy/Outback Wagon I've ever owned: 1995 Legacy 250T (JDM), 1997 Grandwagon (NZ new ... sold just 18 months ago), 2017 Outback Touring (USA). Oh the earlier models the PIN entry was via lifting the driver's door handle, not the black button on the tailgate on the 2017 model. It's super handy if you want to go swimming in the ocean and leave all your stuff in the car and the car locked. Exception: I haven't yet found this feature on the 2008 Outback 2.5XT EYESIGHT (JDM) I bought a few months ago. I don't know whether it doesn't have it, or it's just implemented in another way. Does anyone know?

Well I'd like to see is stronger gas jets on the arm pushers for the non-motorized hatch on the Subaru models, and a little solenoid pusher so that when you wave your hand over the badge it pushes the door open just enough so that the pneumatic arms push the door open on their own power looking like it's powered but then you of course have to manually do have to close it, that'd be nice half feature that can be standard on a car but who knows maybe the maybe all the cars of 2022 will have the motorized hatchback but I do know that the motorized hatchback with the current gas jet push arms the motor does have to work overtime to push it's not that great I would highly recommend that you replace those as soon as you own your car. I wouldn't replace them on a lease that's just money down the drain. But if you own it do it. A casual pushing my arm I expect the door to close I don't expect to have to shove my fist into the door a second time to get it to close all the way
That I would like to see in Forester doors

Does the "locking with pin" technique work on Foresters and Ascents? And does the seatbelt trick work on every Subaru model?

  • @DanLoFat
    @DanLoFat 2 года назад

By the way there is a gas cap lock override it's a single fuse just for that and all you have to do is pull the fuse but you will get a light on your dashboard that you can't turn off. It's some kind of a gas cap warning light and again if you look cool inspection State like California that's not going to pass inspection if that light is on and you have that fuse pulled so make sure you put your fuse back in for that particular thing when you're having your car inspected

The PIN code is great when you don't want to be carrying your key FOB around with you eg going to the beach or a run or cycling or going for a swim. Just lock the key FOB in the car before you leave then use the code to access the car.

      Two problems:
      1. You don't want accidentally leave your key in the car and lock the car. So normally a car shouldn't allow you to lock it when a key is inside
      2. 5 digit pin is not something very secure. If you leave your car on the same parking everyday, pin could be bruteforced in a week or so

    • @bradad2026

      1. You disable the keyfob proximity function so you are able to leave the keys in the car.
      2. The code is set by you and would mean something only to you.

I know it's a lot of comments for me to Wade through I'm going to have to go in and edit these pretty soon.
What I had for the for the putting in the pin sequence so that you can unlock a car and by the way that button you're talking about is on all the models whether there's a motorized hatch or not just so you know.
Should we do this with the engine off? Cuz I try with the engine on and I'm getting a long tone from the out the outside speaker the one that you get like if you have your parking brake on and you open your car door and leave the parking brake on you got that long tone that's outside of the car, that happens but I had my car running when I tried to put in the pin I think I have to have the car turned off when I do the pin and should I roll the window down and have all the doors closed or is it okay to have the front door open when I do this for the you know putting in the five digit PIN
By the way I found out that the Android firmware hack allows you to create up to an eight digit PIN or down to a three-digit pin which is kind of nice little quicker access.
You can also use the same button pin combo sequence that you create on the inside of the car in order to start the car without the key fob.
This technique is done by pressing in the rear window child lock button to lock then using the left rear window button now deactivated, type in the five digit PIN you created for your trunk and your car will start you'll have 30 seconds to hold the brake down and press the start button without the key fob because you've entered the pin correctly. If you enter the pin incorrectly your car may go into emergency cutoff mode which will then require you to have the key fob or they'll have to enter that pin again in order to reset it but you'll have to enter the pin correctly otherwise it's going to stay in auto theft mode.
Don't get it wrong of course another way to reset it is you guessed it all the negative terminal off the battery wait 20 minutes and then put it back on all of the little tricks will be reset, unless of course you have the Android hack firmware setup you can enter the pin on the infotainment screen and you can also have your car memorized all of its settings from when you unplug the battery

In a lot of states if you're a delivery driver like say for Amazon Flex or doordash there is actually an exception to seat belt law as long as you're going 15 miles an hour or less between stops you are allowed to not have your seat belt on, from my money it's more like five to seven miles an hour I can set my car in the crawl mode I need a consistently cruise at 5:00 or 7 miles an hour actually I can those are my step shoes you can actually change those settings to be you know three or three and 10 or 3 and 8 whatever you want but you can have two different settings. That loads up every time the car starts and then you can adjust the car service reset it so that the next time you start your car the Android will not load in fact resettings will be load that of course will include the seat belt warning likes everything will go back to normal I don't know when you reload your Android or no ignition start you can do that too after you get your emissions tested or after you get your car back from the mechanic

  • @DanLoFat

Also regarding the seatbelt light man being solidly lit I don't know of a way other than a firmware hack that you can have a seat belt but not have the chime sound at least not without taking the speaker out of the out of the instrument cluster which is a little bit of work but it's easy enough to do in a lot of the Subaru's
That way you won't hear the time but you'll always see the man and when you're pulled over by a cop you're not going to hear the chime anyway but the man will be lit solid, a smart cop is going to see that there's no man lit and if there's no red man lit that means you did something or you got to burn out man light and in California you won't pass inspection and if a cop thinks you won't pass expansion it could write you a warning to have your car go get inspected and the second time might not be a warning it could be a ticket, and a vehicle that doesn't pass inspection probably can't be legally driving on the road, so be real careful in those states that have inspection requirements where the seatbelt light man solid red must be functioning properly in order to pass inspection. 😎

I'll say that there might be a firmware hack out there for Android which is essentially what Subaru's run on that could allow you to disable the gas cap lock without having to pull the fuse and the dashboard light won't be lit and you only need two connector will not report that the gas cap lock doesn't work however the smart inspector lock your car walk around to the side and if they can push the door open they know it's faulty. I'm pretty sure that gas cap locking is not part of an inspection process unless they see the light lit on the instrument cluster probably will pass inspection I don't believe that's a safety issue per se.
