People who label him as a culture vulture are uncultured. Bruno has been performing since he was a toddler. He was raised listening to soul music because his entire family was in show business. He is a true musician who plays multiple instruments and is involved in the writing and production of all of his songs. His music transcends culture. He always shows respect and honour for those who he grew up listening to and performing their songs in Hawaii for local tourists. I think soul and music is just deeply a part of who he is... can't fake that. I'm a black woman and I go hard for my people, but anyone who thinks that about Bruno is reaching.
Bruno Mars is far beyond the cultures or any kind of concepts. He's a gift for the world of art, and art's for the people. Especially if we consider the present music market, he's an ocean in an endless desert. Terms such as culture or ethnicity are irrelevant next to his talent and musical knowledge. He's not just an amazing vocalist, but also a fantastic composer, dancer, showman and instrumentalist. A true and whole artist.
With you on that desert reference! How many "musicians" are there really on today's charts? What we've mostly got today is autotuned algorithms using samples, masquerading as music. I remember 8 or 9 years ago the closing act on the Grammy's was Barbra Streisand with a 30 piece orchestra. You had acts in the audience like Kanye, Bieber, and the likes listening in awe. I imagined by the looks on their faces that they were thinking thoughts like " Is that a violin, is that a trumpet??? I've heard about those!" I can imagine in that in 30 years someone like Bieber, or whoever lying on the couch picking lint out of there belly button saying "let's get the band back together" , then running to the next room to grab the laptop!!
Well said. The closest I would say really as far as talent & musicianship might be Jus Timberlake, as far as variety of skill, instrumental, vocal, dance, & in his case, acting. Bruno May be a more profound composer/lyricist, but this combo with Paak is like gold compared to what’s accurate today. This is exceptional , no doubt! They’re both great collaborators as well, willing to compliment & support, & shine when it’s time.
So my question is: Since Bruno is Puerto Rican and Filipino, should he only do Puerto Rican and Filipino music? Should he be pigeon holed into that specific ethnic genre of music? If he did, that would be a disservice to the music world 🌍 no more “Uptown Funk” no more “24K Magic” no more “Leave the Door Open”? Next question: Would these people who are so deeply offended by his music be so up in arms if he were less successful than he is? Or are they just hating on the man for pure jealousy? 🤔

Anderson is African American and South Korean Bruno is Puerto Rican with filipina and Spanish ancestry They are both really talented artist I've listened to for years
All of you might be right. As far as i know Bruno's dad is Puerto Rican and multiple ancestry but his mom is a filipino who was born and raise in the Philippines before she came to Hawaii and their family. His mom is partly Spanish (well technically base on philippine history) some of the filipinos has a Spanish ancestry, Chinese and American. If y'all wanted to know if this is real or not there's a documentary of his family uncle and his mother before she died when they visit the Philippines during Bruno's World tour
Ladies, I enjoyed your reaction and commentary, but you mentioned some topics that I feel need to be addressed: 1. Bruno is a cultural appreciator, not a cultural appropriator. Like some other people in the comments already mentioned, he's been singing since he was two years old, and nearly all his life, he's listened to---and performed music from---people such as James Brown, Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, Frankie Lymon, Prince, Next, R. Kelly, Silk, Little Richard, etc. The list goes on and on. Bruno doesn't sing R&B to make a quick buck; he does it because he loves it, and he's successful because he's one of the best out there right now and he isn't fake. Bruno's always had the utmost respect for the music and the culture; he always gives his influences their props and has even shown activism when it comes to black issues. If anything, Bruno should be categorized with Teena Marie and Jon B. 2. With the exception of Anderson .Paak, the other men in the video (also known as The Hooligans) were never "props." Those men have worked with Bruno for years, and they're not just co-workers. They're all really close friends, and Bruno considers them his brothers. Not only that, Bruno always lets the guys have a chance to shine on their own, whether it's during one of Bruno's shows, or to pursue their own separate project(s). One of Bruno's best friends, Phillip Lawrence, was also part of the group, but he ended up leaving for family reasons. Anderson (or "Andy," as Bruno affectionately calls him) is also a good friend of Bruno's. They became close in 2017, during the 24K Magic tour. 3. Bruno writes and produces all his music. If it's an original song, he had a hand in the songwriting process.
This is bridging the gap between yesterday's and today's music's. Literally music anyone can listen to, regardless of generation! Song has been on repeat in my car for a week now.
Anderson .Paak is an extraordinary musician, song writer, and singer. Anyone that can play drums like that while singing has my utmost respect-I can’t even walk and chew gum at the same time. He is not as well known as he should be-even before the collaboration with Bruno Mars and that’s a shame. If you have money to spend, spend it on one of his brilliant albums. I just did and it is well worth it.
Songwriters: Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, D'Mile, and Brody Brown Producers: Bruno Mars and D'Mile Music Video Directors: Bruno Mars and Florent Dechard
I don't consider him a culture culture because a culture vulture is someone who appropriate another culture without any credit or homage to that culture. Bruno not only pays homage, he said plenty of times how ALL music is black music. Black people created all these genres so he understands that and respects that and is inspired by that.
I'm 52yo. I heard the groups from whom Bruno Mars is inspired by. I heard them on the radio with those classic songs that are on just a few radio stations or at a local karaoke bar every now and then. His name is Peter Gene Hernandez. In my book, he's a Black man. He has full rights to bring back the classic sounds that my ears have been yearning to hear for at least a few decades now. Bruno Mars isn't a Culture Vulture. He has been making retro music for years. Besides that, he has credited Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis, LA & Babyface as well as Teddy Riley for his inspirations. It's obvious that he has many other inspirations, which have shown in his studio work and live versions. The old school respects him and what he's doing. For example, Smokey Robinson has given him a stamp of approval. Single-handedly he's revived the music of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s! He constantly uses Doo-wop in his vocals. Look at his tribute to Amy Winehouse when he sang Valerie. That was a track inspired by the music of the 50s! There's a break where he and 4 bandmates gather around a mic to sing harmonies. That's classic Doo-wop form and vocal style! He captures the old musical art forms, freshens them up and does them justice in his own way! That's no easy feat! I'm sorry that Michael, Prince and James Brown aren't here to see this. Personally, I think that he's channeling Michael in this song with his movements. The Spin and the slide is a trademark move that Michael would use when he was with The Jackson 5 and with the Jacksons. The collectivements of the group reminded me of The Jacksons of the 70s and some others like The O'Jays, The Chi-Lites, The Spinners, The Temptations, The Dells, The Originals as well as Little Anthony and the Imperials.
See, this reaction right here is exactly why Bruno should never stop doing music. Yall were smiling heavy and snapping like it was live. He just has that effect. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Culture vulture? Get out of here with all that. He grew up on soul. We could also argue that you women are British so have absolutely nothing to do with soul as well since that was created by African Americans. We need to stop drawing lines to divide. Music is music. Also he has written ALL his songs and also many others for other artists.
On black music's impact on his career Bruno has said: “When you say ‘black music,’ understand that you are talking about rock, jazz, R&B, reggae, funk, doo-wop, hip-hop, and Motown. Black people created it all. Being Puerto Rican, even salsa music stems back to the Motherland [Africa]. So, in my world, black music means everything. It’s what gives America its swag.” So I’d say Bruno has earned the right to sing whatever he wants. Background: Bruno’s father is Puerto Rican and his beautiful mother was Filipino. Bruno first performed & was in a movie as “Little Elvis” in Hawaii starting at 2 or 3 years old. Then when he was still a young kid singing rock & roll, doo-wop and soul music in his dad’s band called The Love Notes in Hawaii. In that band, even then he was exposed to throwback rock & roll and black music, from the 1950’s on up, by black artists like Jackie Wilson, Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers and many others. He was the lead singer.
[Bruno & Anderson each have separate bands] On the Leave the Door Open video, the other four guys in the video are current or past members of Bruno’s band, the Hooligans. They have been together for years. The base player is a former member, who for the past 10 years solely produces and/or plays on the recorded songs in the studio. Anderson Paak was the opening act for the first European leg of Bruno’s 24k Magic tour, that’s where the met,I think. The amazing piano player on the Little Richard Tribute is in the band The Free Nationals who, acting as Anderson’s band, frequently accompany him and also serve as backing vocals.
I was *REALLY* hoping you ladies would react to this... Thank You!🙏🏾 Anderson Paak, the guy singing and playing the drums, is a 4 time Grammy winner himself and he and Bruno together form the group Silk Sonic and both write the songs.... *Please* react to their Grammy performance if you can...
Bruno and Paak wrote the song.... Black people need to get over this culture vulture crap. Basketball was white before black and so was American football, so are we calling ourselves culture vultures?
Bruno Mars has never failed to acknowledge the effect that Black artists have had on his career and always gives credit. This is why I’m so glad that Anderson.Paak sang lead on this song. Maybe some of this talk about “Culture Vulture” will come to an end.
The Hooligans are Bruno's band and have always been right next to him in his videos, and every performance and on award stages. Bruno wears his inspirations on his sleeve and is never shy when giving artists their flowers.
Nice reaction ladies!! Anderson Paak check him out his solo work is sick!! Together with Bruno and the band they are Silk Sonic. The Grammy performance was just amazing, outfits, back up singers dancing, too good. Anyways have a good one l!!
He is a "Solo Artist". They are hired musicians in fact he can hire anybody to be part on his crew. It just so happens that they already have a bond and that bruno likes them that's why he always brings them around. They did not bring bruno to where he is now it's the other way around. So, being hired by a solo artist to be on a band and appear on every MV and big events and always gave them spotlight was already a big deal. Name me a solo artist that always gives a spotlight to their bandmates like bruno even include them on MV.
He did not hire them it was a collaboration. Brandon Paak Anderson, known professionally as Anderson .Paak, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and multi-instrumentalist from Oxnard, California.
@@beysang9147 If you read my comment properly and watched the video of which why i commented this. The topic is about Bruno's crew and does not include Anderson and i know that he is also a solo artist.
Both Andersen & Bruno are of Asian Decent. Andersen is part Korean his Mother is Korean and his father is Black. ( his wife is Korean). Bruno is Puerto Rican and Filipino. His mother is from the Philippines his dad is from Puerto Rico he grew up in Honolulu Hawaii started singing at two years old was the youngest Elvis Presley tribute artist at four years old he is one of the greatest performers of this day and it doesn’t matter what nationality they are , they are blessed by God with talent to bless this world. If anybody got a problem with that ...... needs to shut up and check out!
The guys on the video except for Anderson Paak are always part of everything that Bruno did/does. You've got to be a Hooligan since 2010 to know that. And they're not just there as props. Each band member are handpicked by Bruno because he saw how talented they are, for example, Jamareo Artis, his bassist who won a competition organized by P. Diddy was approached by Mars when his single Just the way you are came out. Same with the rest of the band. They're not just his band members but his best friends as well and you can tell that when they're on stage performing.🤷♀️
IT Does so much MAKES ME miss the 1970s EVEN more now , For a song from the 70s . TRY The song HAVE YOU SEEN HER, By the Chi Lites From 1971, You will here this song in that one . LOVE THE 70s
People need to stop with this “culture vulture” nonsense. If you’re not white, you’re a POC. People also need to stop limiting themselves and others based on race. You don’t have to like or make any particular type of music based on your race. Nor should you prohibit yourself or others from liking or making any type of music based on race. Blur those genre lines. Good music is good music. Period!
Bruno Mars grew up on this kind of music! And that genre of music provided a strong influence over him. Good music is good music. Please note the text below regarding the Ronettes and the Righteous Brothers. They are also examples of people who were not African Americans, yet sang great R&B songs! Just enjoy their talent and their music. Good music has no color. Peace Out. The Flower 🌹
Culture Vulture is such a dumb way of saying "he's bringing our music back with his own style" It comes off as if he's just adding a guitar into a song like The Temptations - My Girl. I know people can relate to this, I grew up in the Philippines listening to old songs and even when we moved to the US I was still listening to them more often than the new releases. The soul is almost gone these days. To have some type of artist like Bruno Mars is a blessing, either appreciate it or ignore it. Hating on it just doesn't do anything for you or for others or especially for Bruno Mars. Learn to respect what's being handed to you, that's not that hard. His whole damn family is an entertainer, a bunch of talented people, you can't take that for granted. He only does what feels good for him and what is good to his ears, you gotta respect that. No culture vulture bullshit.
To add to it, Bruno's mom is a Filipino. His dad is a Puerto Rican. You can never get anything better than a Bruno Mars from that, perfect mix to bring cultures together.
Among other stars, Smokey Robinson, Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Bootsy Collins, L.A. & Babyface give Bruno Mars a lot of credit for what he's doing. No vulture is recognized by the classic contributors. I only wish that James Brown, Prince and Michael Jackson were alive to see and hear what he's doing.
They were on the Grammys this past Sunday. They played live. Look for that to see just how awesome they are. Plus also on the Grammys they did a tribute to Little Richard. Check that out too
He has opened at the BET Awards in 2017. What vulture is recognized like that? He's paid homage to those have influenced him. I thought the endorsement my Smokey Robinson pretty much ended that controversy IMHO. Has Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes etc ever got that kind of recognition and praise? I'm not jumping on you ladies. I'm just pointing out why IMHO that the 'culture vulture' label doesn't fit him. Thoughts?
If someone watched this video without audio, they could see how incredible this song is. The music is transformative. Ladies, your faces, your movement and your joy says it all. Thanks for your reaction video!
In the sixties, there was a girl group that I thoroughly enjoyed. They were called the Ronettes they were Filipino. One of their hits was: "Be my be my baby". That was my song. They were gorgeous . They were cool too! There was a male duet group I also enjoyed during the Sixties they were called the "Righteous Brothers" they sang : You lost that loving feeling. The generation of that time didn't make a negative big deal about them. They were more amazed that White Guys could sing that good. Just settle down and enjoy the music. Let your ears receive the flow of amazing sound! Peace out. The Flower 🌹
Bruno father was a performer himself and he's Puerto Rican, Jewish from east coast. Bruno Mother from Philippines. But does race really matter? No as along as got soul
Girls all the comments coming from KB, Paranoyak, and endless others are so true. Even all the great artist like stevie wonder and the whole community of producers, music writers, and performers agrees that Bruno more than anyone honors all the great artist musicians and sounds of the past, also constantly giving props to all greats of the past. Just because of one jealous girl opinion who is such a fake is very dillusional. Bruno Mars has always been positive, generous, and gives credit to where credits due says a lot about where he gets his inspiration from and there is where he starts creating quality music from his soul at the same time promoting nothing but love and value to the public. Your reactions and comments were so on point! You three are awesome!

Bruno is Puerto Rican with filipina and Spanish ancestry
They are both really talented artist I've listened to for years
Bruno's dad is half Puerto Rican, half Ashkenazi Jew with Hungarian heritage, not Spanish.
@@peanutforever2191 Bruno Mars late mom has a Spanish Ancestry. From PH btw.
Ladies, I enjoyed your reaction and commentary, but you mentioned some topics that I feel need to be addressed:
Love your reaction...and bruno writes all of his songs and was a ghost writer for years before he became big
The lack of respect to Anderson PAAK who also wrote these songs and did the drum recording in one take in these comments is crazy to me
Anderson .Paak is an extraordinary musician, song writer, and singer.
Songwriters: Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, D'Mile, and Brody Brown Producers: Bruno Mars and D'Mile
Music Video Directors: Bruno Mars and Florent Dechard
Culture vulture my ass. One culture doesn't own music. It belongs to everyone.
Agree. When you wrote a song you owns it, but when you played it to the people It's not yours anymore.
I love these lovely ladies accents. Silk Sonic taking care of business in 2021.
If we start equating music with race then we are all doomed to extinction.
This reaction is goated cause you can actually see the song start to grow on them throughout the video
Hello and wow all 3 of you black women are so so so beautiful 😍😍😍. I absolutely do love this song. Real music 🎶🎵🎙️🥁🎹🎸🎷🎼🔥💯
Who cares what he is... his soul speaks music. That’s all that matters.
The Hooligans are Bruno's band and have always been right next to him in his videos, and every performance and on award stages. Bruno wears his inspirations on his sleeve and is never shy when giving artists their flowers.
Thank goodness for Bruno for keeping our ancestors hard work alive
Bruno appreciates the culture, he is no vulture.
when Bruno said "imma leave the door open girl" the girl on the right felt that in her soul 😂😂
This Song has catapulted Bruno and Anderson / Silk Sonic to SUPERSTARDOM!💥
The guys on the video except for Anderson Paak are always part of everything that Bruno did/does. You've got to be a Hooligan since 2010 to know that. And they're not just there as props. Each band member are handpicked by Bruno because he saw how talented they are, for example, Jamareo Artis, his bassist who won a competition organized by P. Diddy was approached by Mars when his single Just the way you are came out. Same with the rest of the band. They're not just his band members but his best friends as well and you can tell that when they're on stage performing.🤷♀️
Bruno and Anderson both wrote this album. The culture vulture argument has no merit.
It's not 3 people there are two primary entertainers, Anderson Paak and Bruno mars and they came together to make a group called "Silk Sonic".
All 3 of yall are BEAUTIFUL GODDESSES, LOVELY SMILES, THE REACTION IS EXCELLENT...
Thank you 🙏🏾
Anderson .Paak is also good check his stuff out , start with his tiny desk concert
Bruno is a fucking God when it comes to music.
The three of you grooving' to this song was super-cool ladies. Thank you so much for a great reaction...the best yet.
Aww thank you 🙏🏾
You should totally listen to the Grammy's performance :)
I just love everything about this group. They are killing it!
Yeah, Bruno Mars live in Hawaii and he went to Brazil but that was one month ago and Bruno Mars is the best artist in my.
Please put some respect on Anderson paak name...lol..dude is half of the group..lol
Bruno Mars is the greatest artist of this generation....GOAT❤️🙏
He ain't no culture vulture pls stop...love the reaction tho beautiful ladies
Back to the future in a Motown studio ! 😍 This song sounds like an R&B Grammy Winner from 1974 ❤️
IT Does so much MAKES ME miss the 1970s EVEN more now , For a song from the 70s . TRY The song HAVE YOU SEEN HER, By the Chi Lites From 1971, You will here this song in that one . LOVE THE 70s
Lol u ladies harmony at the door open part gave me chills 🥶 in good way 😉
Bruno is a modern day michael jackson he doesnt misssss Like he DONT MISSS his songs are all CLASSICS
can youn please react to Bruno mars at the Apollo theatre live singing calling all my lovelies
The lady in the middle is imagining herself going through that door.
🤣
People need to stop with this “culture vulture” nonsense. If you’re not white, you’re a POC. People also need to stop limiting themselves and others based on race. You don’t have to like or make any particular type of music based on your race. Nor should you prohibit yourself or others from liking or making any type of music based on race. Blur those genre lines. Good music is good music. Period!
Please react to the live version from the Grammys! It’s even better!!!
Peace Out.

Check that out too
The 1970s were LOADED with great music like this ,
Y’all need to watch the live performance of this song at the grammys
I love this reaction, the vibes were immaculate 🎶
It's been more than 4 months since this song released & guess what? We still don't have the fukn album 😭😂
NO
The live version is even better
In the sixties, there was a girl group that I thoroughly enjoyed. They were called the Ronettes they were Filipino. One of their hits was: "Be my be my baby". That was my song. They were gorgeous . They were cool too! There was a male duet group I also enjoyed during the Sixties they were called the "Righteous Brothers" they sang : You lost that loving feeling. The generation of that time didn't make a negative big deal about them. They were more amazed that White Guys could sing that good. Just settle down and enjoy the music. Let your ears receive the flow of amazing sound! Peace out.

Everything was dope til the lady said culture vulture. Had to pause and rewind and made sure I heard that right. Do some homework next time.
God it was SO WONDERFUL, after 03:28, when they all harmonized and sung together! My heart melted! Goddesses!
The main reason I enjoyed this song is because it sounded old school! They did a fabulous job!
The Flower 🌹
Bruno father was a performer himself and he's Puerto Rican, Jewish from east coast. Bruno Mother from Philippines. But does race really matter? No as along as got soul
Cannot deny his talent. Should he just keep it to himself? Absolutely not.
Please do more Silk Sonic reactions
This song was made to charm the ladies... 🥰
REACT TO THE GRAMMY PERFORMANCE....ITS EVEN BETTER
Check out Anderson .Paak npr tiny desk its amazing
You’ve got to understand that Bruno Mars is the main originator of all his songs. The Hooligans, albeit talented are his vision

Love the reaction ❤️. You ladies are all beautiful.
This song DEFINITELY gives late 70s vibes 😍
Bruno Mars is one of the main writers of all his songs. A pure genius. 💎
Maaaaan! Watching you ladies took me way back to when I was a kid and a new Jackson 5 record would come out and the older girls would gather round the radio or record player and listen to it for the 1st time. Such a great reaction, love the spontaneous BG vocals and harmony too. Bruno Mars & Anderson Paak have made a classic Soul song. Never really been a fan of his but props are due on this one.
Yall sound pretty good too!!! I subscribed after 10 seconds of "meeting"y'all
Beautiful reaction
