Nice " 03 ". Where I lived in New York state. There was a USMC reserve armory across the street from my grandmother's house. I use to like hanging around in the armory. One day I went in and the people were taking " 03s" from storage racks and putting them into large crates. They were being turned in. This was around 1959. The reserve used Garands. My uncle had joined this reserve outfit right after high school in 1940. His company was in the 1st Battallion, 5th Marine Regiment. They were activated and the battallion was eventually became the 1st Marine Raiders. On August 7 1942 my uncle landed on an island, Tulagi. Which was 20 miles away from Guadalcanal. The fight for Tulagi took two days, no Japanese taken prisoner. My uncle was KIA the first day. My reason for the story is because those " 03s" were carried on that island and when I carried two rifles to the crate, I kept wondering did I get to hold the rifle my uncle carried. Those rifles almost had black wood from oil and the metal finish were very worn, no rust. I have wondered what happened to those " 03s" and when I come across a rifle I wonder might it be my uncle's.
I live only about 30 minutes from the South Store. I have been there many times and have gotten quite a few rifles. Last trip down in Nov they had M1917s in stock as well.
Your 1903 has a Pederson device cut on the left side of the receiver. Those were actions manufactured especially for the device, but were later used in WWII for m1903 rifles. Not very common.
Yes, all the Springfield 1903 Mark 1 rifles were built to accept the Pederson Device. Also, that bayonet he bought more than likely will only fit on an M1 Garand and be a very tight fit on the 1903. If you do get it on the 1903 it will be a tight and just drop off when you shoot it.
It is an M1905 bayonet and will fit both rifles just fine. They designed them that way because both rifles were used in WW2. The difference being that the WW1 bayonet was a standard 16" long bayonet while in WW2 they decided the shorten the bayonet to 10". Most of the existing stock of 16" bayonets were shortened to 10". The one he has in the video was not a cut down it was the standard 10" bayonet.
@@kmitchellw9ln I have a 16 inch bayonet from WWII and it only snaps into place on my M1 Garand. I own a 1903 and an 03 A3, and it will mount on the barrel, but its an incredibly tight fight and doesn't snap into place. I've seen that with a lot of the longer bayonets.
@@markbrennan1393 I have a bayonet that had that problem. First, I made sure the bayonet lug was clean and free of nicks on the edge. Next, I disassembled the handle. Cleaned and lubricated the mechanism inside that locked it into place and it worked much better.
@@kmitchellw9ln thanks for the info I'll give it a try. A few of mine have had the bayonet lug re parked which could be the reason it's so tight as well.
I would like to see the store some day , but coming from Kansas City it will take awhile . I would also like to get the 1903 , 1903-A3, & the Grarand . I did purchase from a local gun shop a United States Rifle .30 Caliber Model 1917 , Winchester ( made a video) . I had gone to the last gun show of the year here and passed on a low serial number 1903 & a 1903-A3 by National Ordnance . I will keep looking , thanks for the video , got a nice rifle & accessories
Great video.. very informative. Is there a way to find out if that Springfield 1903 was used in the Philippines during the American administration/ pacification campaign with the locals here during that era? I would love to get one myself and own a piece of history (but I gathered from your discussion it's only open to US citizen-which is unfortunate). Same thing with the M1 Garand. More power to your channel.
@@GearKnowHow The head guy built me a custom m1 for 750 with all spring field parts ranging from 1943 to 1945 and even put on crank bar sights. The upper was dipped with green lead park.
So informative thanks so much. I’m in the process of ordering one from cmp cuz I too like the m1 a lot. Can’t wait to get it hope it’s still available. Keep up the good work and stay safe bro. Do you think they still have it say service grade $750? What do you suggest?
anybody know where to get pricing on the Garand through cmp started looking into the mail order program but don't want to get to far if its above my budget
No, they use the proceeds to run CMP. They weren’t free, check for video of the condition of rifles when found in the warehouse. Termites in wood, mold, had to be treated before export. Know that you have been misinformed.

Also at camp Perry there is a CMP store
The item called an M-1 ammunition pouch for multiple clips is often referred to as a bandolier.
Happily when I visited in early Dec they had one 1898 Krag as well as 1903A3s and M1917s.
Thank you for your post! And by the way, you have a beautiful piece of property. Alabama looks great.

I have an 03 much like that. It also has the pederson magazine port.
Sweet M1903. I have 2 Garands and a M1903A3. Even though the 03A3 isn’t as old, I do like the rear sights better.
good stuff, i wish i was near a cmp!
I wish I had gone there when I was in basic and AIT at Ft. McClellan. Also that 1903 has the cut for the pederson device. cool rifle.

I came here looking for the Garand and was pleasantly surprised to see you left with an '03, as I'm awaiting mine from a private seller.
That 03 seems to have a slot in the receiver on the left side. Was that for a Pedersen device? Good Luck, Rick

The pederson cut out make it a more rare rifle. I think you fell into that one. Congratulations
I'm wondering what was the price of the M1 Garlands Thank You Captain Dennis Wohltman
Hey bro, if you don't mind me asking ? How much was the Springfield ? I would love to go and get one myself.
I thought the Garand you got was amazing, that Springfield is even better to me. Great finds brother!
Got my M1 Garand back in August...same store Great sales team.😎🌈🌺🤙🏽
I need to make a day trip and go there
Little more than 3 hour drive for me. Would be well worth though.
Thanks for the vid
Its too bad one cannot buy 1903s from the cmp website.
So the bayonet and the ammo you got at the cmp near Atlanta? Do they ship ammo? Great video by the way!
Yep! No shipping available, but it’s only about 90 miles west of Atlanta.
@@GearKnowHow Thank you for the info!! Might have to do a road trip to get some and maybe the second garand for the family!
They ship the ammo, just go to the CMP e-store. $184 shipped for the 30-06.
What was the price range for the 1903s?
All around $650 from what I saw on the floor, not bad these days.
Around about how much were the garands?
Did they have any m1a1 carbines i live 30 mins away and that's the past one i need i have a m1 and 1903
They did not, otherwise I would have definitely bought one

Did they have a fair amount of 1917 or 1903s in stock? I'm thinking about heading to Anniston next weekend.
They had a good amount of 1903s back two months ago when I was there

"M1 pouches" == Musette bags..

So what did it cost?
Anyone know how legit their website is to order from
What state are you in?
For your info the store is in Anniston Alabama, that's where CMP South is located
Only thing that sucks about buy from CMP is that you have to be a member of a marksmanship program.
You can easily meet that requirement by joining the Garand Collectors Association.
🤓
@@mistergrendel32 My point is that you shouldn't have to be a member of any program.
No you can join GCA for 25 bucks. Go to the website and check the qualifications for purchase it’s not hard to do.

Anyone who visits the CMP and does not go to the fantastic gun collection at Berman Museum . at 640 Museum DR in Anniston AL Is Making a big mistake.

THE RIFLES SHOULD BE FREE TO TAXPAYERS, THEY WERE PAID FOR ORIGINALLY BY TAX MONEY. YOUR W2 SHOULD ALLOW YOU TO GET A RIFLE EVERY YEAR..
