    From this video left side incandescent bulb is brighter then right side Philips LED bulb. Is it safer in daytime ?

      +aladdin BT In reality this Philips LED bulb is EQUALLY bright. In the video the incandescent *seems* brighter due to its old-school tungsten wire element turns red hot to generate heat then light. This single hot-spot which radiates the light outward did trick to the camera. However; if we used a light meter to gauge the overall lumens reflected from the taillight housing, the Philips LED will be equally in brightness too. But clearly you can tell the LED definitely WINS on the fast-response time to generate light.

      I tested this Philips LED bulb yesterday, installed on Ford Focus MK2 OEM stop/tail lamp with professional photometric test machine(ECE qualified).
      (1)The position of Light source(focus point) is not the same so the beam pattern is much wider than original design for traditional filament bulb.
      (2)Averaged luminance values of regulation points is about 70% of original design.
      (3)For being seen ,there are dark area of bulb top and reflector which is not happened on traditional filament bulb.
      (4)The light output of higher end will reduce to under 65% after switch on 10 minutes. The solution of waste heat need to be improved.

    How long did the LEDs last?

    • @moomoo97

    Did you receive any bulb out warning on the dash as a result of the brake lights?

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  7 лет назад

      You will receive a bulb out warning if not installing the LED Warning Canceller to each brake light.

    Did you just swap bulbs or did you have to install a ballast of some sort? I've had issues with other LEDs but have had good results with Philips LED line.

      A ballast is a component for HID headlight bulbs. For led it has called external driver.
      LED doesn’t have a ballast.
      If ur talkin about a load equalizer resistor for turn signals, than yes it does need

    I did the exact same. Replaced my brake light and reverse lights with www.DiodeDynamics.com LED's. You can now see my brake lights from the moon & when I backup it looks like high beams in reverse. Love it!

    Right hand side is LED right?

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  7 лет назад +1

      Correct. The LED is on the right side brake housing in this video. As you've seen, the LED does light up much faster so the vehicles behind you can react sooner for your braking action.

    Did you buy it red or white? Some people say it must be red to get a real red!! Do u think it's worth buying??? Im considering buy all of the outside bulbs of my civic 08'

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  7 лет назад

      The Philips LED bulb I used here are specifically for Brake Light, so it comes as RED color already. But you've got the right notion. For best results/effects in LED conversion, it's best to use the same matching color of the LED for that housing, like RED LED for Brake Lens, Amber LED for Side-Marker Lens, and White LED for Backup Lens....

    • @toyotabrony
      @toyotabrony 11 месяцев назад

      Of course it does. Buying a red led bulbs behind the red lens is definitely worth it and it creates more USA ek light output

    @moomoo97, is the warning canceller also applicable for led turn signals?

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  7 лет назад

      Yes. However; it'll be expensive because you'll need to put one canceller per Turn Signal bulb, which will be 4.

  • @okaythen001
    @okaythen001 9 лет назад

    awesome thanks, if possible can you make a vid with the turn signal flashing? if it looks as good as I think I am going to follow everything you did! thanks for the video!

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  9 лет назад +1

      Okaythen001 I didn't replace the signal bulbs (Amber color) and stay with the same incandescent only for some reasons: 1) There will be little benefit to convert to LED for turn-signal bulb, it's already Flashing to catch others' attention. 2) Philips has no Amber Color LED for 3757NA replacement bulb 3) Cost. You'll need to install additional 'Resistor' (like another Warning Canceller) in the signal circuit to prevent 'Hyper-Flashing' when the LED bulb is in place. Overall, there's little value and aesthetic to convert the turn-signal with LED.

      moomoo97 Must be because mine is an Aussie model, but I managed to find some Philips amber indicator bulbs and they're even bundled with Canbus warning cancellers. The size here is "PY21W".

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  9 лет назад

      Dan Barraclough Awesome. I also realized that the Aussie Focus uses different sockets for Brake Bulb (compare to US-spec Focus Wedge type 3157). Maybe it's all about where the Ford Focus are made and how they source their parts.

      @danbarraclough7566 9 лет назад +1

      +moomoo97 Yeah you are right, I pulled the standard brake bulb out of mine yesterday and it was a "Bayonet" style fitting. Strange that they don't keep the same fitting throughout? Maybe there are different regulations in Aus to US. I noticed all the model names are different over here compared to Euro models and US models as well. Seems like ST is the only one consistent throughout countries.

    I think camera is designed to collect light like human vision.
    I test 2016 Chrysler SRT front LED fog lamp for Myotek today with a photometric test machine . But I don't have those LED bulbs(made in China).
    Maybe you can install some lux meter APP to an android phone. And test them at the same distance and right behind the lamp for comparison. The SAE or ECE standard test distance between lamp and sensor is more than 10 meter. In near field brighter is just higher lumen not higher candle power . ( Philips LED bulb is lower lumen in video.) For warning single lamp candle power is the useful unit.
    Street legal don't have to be brighter.
    Thank you for your reply.

      +aladdin BT To my eye-test, they look the same in both day/night for brightness in the housing. Higher grade LED chips like the Philips/Samsung has better light quality and consistency compare to the no-name China cheapo LED bulbs.

    • @aladdinwu5180
      @aladdinwu5180 7 лет назад

      I tested them. Only 60% bright of OEM bulb at the center position. But brighter 40% at upper position. See ruclips.net/video/lKTohhZI0Fg/видео.html

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  8 лет назад +4

      It's illusion from the hotspot of the halogen bulb made it looks brighter.The Philips LED bulb is equally bright in real life but reacts MUCH quicker....

    • @toyotabrony
      @toyotabrony 11 месяцев назад

      That’s because from my experience and testing these: I thought these red LED’s have deeper vibrant red led. But it’s not. They look ornage-ish red and looks like an incandescent bulb lights up behind the red lens.
      That’s why they are not truly bright. Not that great usable light output. The sylvania Zevo however, does help a lot better and it creates more usable light output more than Philips.

    " incandescent bulbs actually take a little time to light up. But Philips Vision LED lights turn on instantly. That means, when you brake, the vehicle behind you can react sooner."
    That is a huge general assumption people make, ad based on nothing whatsoever. Nobody hits the car in front because incandescent brake lights, which activate in milliseconds 'take too long'. In fact that is silly on it's face. People are typically already distracted and just not looking _at all_
    Secondly, human eyes can easily miss the transition from running to brake if the _difference_ in brightness is too small too fast. And this is made worse if running brightness is already so glaring you have to avert your direct gaze.
    There is *nothing* wrong with incandescent bulb brightness, transition time etc, they just eat too much current and burn out too fast. Those are the only issues LEDs should address.
    To Philips' credit, they seem to get all this, and strive to ensure their LEDs replicate the critical functions of incandescent lights, rather than blind the hell out of other drivers with 'brightness' for it's own sake.

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  7 лет назад

      "They just eat too much current and burn out too fast." is the reason why switching from Incandescent bulb to LED.

    • @damonreynolds6775
      @damonreynolds6775 7 лет назад

      Exactly my point, yet all people focus on is 'brighter' and 'faster', neither of which are relevant. Those qualities are a 'solution' to a nonexistent 'problem' with incandescent lights.

      I know this was 6 years ago. But ur stupid.
      Putting red led bulbs behind the red lens, with instant on and instant off does help to others react sooner. That’s a fact. And it works wonders.
      Check out other cars with led. They work very well.
      Hopefully u got better education nowadays.

    • @toyotabrony
      @toyotabrony 3 месяца назад

      Than ur stupid lady.
      Having a led bulb replacements from an incandescent bulbs is true.
      Having led brake light bulbs with instant on and instant off helps against others to react faster than traditional slow on and slow off.
      And that’s a fact. And been true for long periods of time.
      It increase for reliability, longevity, and it also increases safety. Keeps me and my family and friends much safer from other idiots out there that doesn’t paying attention on the road.
      Having a led bulb upgrade is a major day and night difference.
