  • Testo 557S refrigerant manifold gauges comes with the Testo 552i App controlled wireless vacuum probe.
My first impressions out of the box looks like Testo did their homework and possibly improved the software and hardware time will tail I’ll put it through the test give you my opinion in a few months.
And if you know me from my past videos you know I will bench test this manifold both under deep vacuum for its ability not to leak under vacuum and high-pressure nitrogen decay test before I ever take it out into the field.

I just got the 3 port! I never use a manifold when vacuuming so 3 is all I need. Can't wait.

Love that you are gonna put it through the paces and not say wow shiny, software, wiz bang... this thing is great... how much? Can’t wait for the preliminary testing! Nice job Tom!

Everything doesn’t have to be expensive and shiny whizbang software with the most modern tools.
Things can be done on the cheap with old-school technology.
But of course I’ll be using the best vacuum pump I can and a micron gauge to prove the system as dry as possible I will be adding UV trace dye and using the most sensitive expensive refrigerant leak detector after it is filled up to give it a thumbs up and a good bill of Health before it leaves my presence

Just downloaded the app. I would say a major upgrade on the interface. But it doesn’t work well with the older 550 manifold. It is able to connect but every time it disconnect the app will just “hang” there. And also, the older 552 vacuum gauge is able to connect, but you can’t use the ‘Evacuation’ mode with it, only basic view. Seems Testo does not consider backward compatibility of the app with their older equipments.

    • @coldfinger459sub0
      @coldfinger459sub0  3 года назад

That is good to know for owners of older equipment. Not being backward compatible is like every time windows or apples released a new software upgrade all your old computers become basically useless or with minimum function like an older generation.
But it is good to see their interface has improved I just have to see it and use it to see if they made it very intuitive easy and logical steps to follow.
Because having the best hardware equipment in the world doesn’t do anything for 95% of the people if the software is not intuitive to follow a logical pattern to get to functions and features.
      But it dose look good.

Well I hope they fix their problems by now. My first one had so many problems had to return it they gave me a second one had a bunch of problems with the second one I don’t use it for nothing but a back up or just performing recoveries through or simple vacuum too many problems with software connections the screen on both of them started cracking around the edges.
When the first one would get a little bump or are you using it or you tapped on it or moved it the screen went blank out.
Found out I cannot use it with my older version android tablet the software was having too many dropouts so it forced me to buy a new apple iPad so throw another $400 into the cost.
The software has a problem with my old Apple iPhone 6 and connecting with the probes and drop out from the 557s so I’m being forced to shell out another thousand dollars for a brand new phone so I get rid of the software drop out with the probe connection problem.
Another thing if you want to pull a vacuum you absolutely have to use that probe you cannot use the 557 gauges for pulling vacuum and reading your vacuum even if you wanted to.
Because you will find that as soon as you hit -15 vacuum that the screen goes blank and doesn’t read anything else so the gauges by themselves are completely useless for vacuum.
In comparing the range of the Bluetooth with the Fieldpiece there is no comparison to Fieldpiece is so much better at range and going through walls and buildings and stuff like that then to Testo.

@@tysonrowe596 and later I discovered other peoples videos who had the same problem so I know I wasn’t the only one.
And at first when I would call up and tell him all the problems they told me I was the only one who had their problems and they didn’t hear of any problems from the 557 which was a bunch of BS
Because people were starting to post it in the medium forms RUclips Facebook TickTock Instagram.
But now it’s been a long time and they cannot deny all the problems that they had.

Do you know if there are Testo models with a vacuum (Micron) gauge built in? Like and see the need for an external one, but after watching plenty of Toms Videos, I see the use for an internal gauge as with the Filedpiece... In my area of the world, the Testo is much better available than a Fieldpiece.

    • @coldfinger459sub0
      @coldfinger459sub0  Год назад

@yxcvmk you are correct a external standalone a micron gauge is always better.
But a internal one is good enough to give you a rough idea . Of what’s going on
But you have to be wise enough to know you have limitations, and what to expect on your readings by using refrigerant charge, and hoses that were never meant for deep vacuum and have moisture in Refrigerant contamination in the lining of the Refrigerant hoses .

I stopped using Testo products because of unreliability. Poor Bluetooth connection and software problems both trying to use it with android and Apple products.
This is a Industry known problem having a week Bluetooth connection with testo Products.
Majority of HVAC technicians have discovered that Fieldpiece has been much more reliable.
But I do own the 450 E hotwire.
And when you need it it’s good to have so long as you don’t have software problems.
But I have moved over to ( The energy Conservatory ) True Flow Grid
Ever since I got this I don’t want to use anything else life is so much easier
And you can also use it with measureQuick software which makes it even more useful

Are the gaskets on the refrigerant probes still that thick nylon that's impossible to find, or did they go to the rubber normal sized one like the joblink wireless probes? This reason alone was why I returned my first set of testo wireless probes. I have a 550 and love it, wan't to upgrade to this, but not if they have those dang nylon washers that don't last

    • @coldfinger459sub0

They have the nylon washers inside on the valve piston for sealing. Much smaller then the Fieldpiece.
